Q: Does anyone know if the seat On a Chevrolet El Camino can be moved forward?
I am planning to buy an el camino, but the only time I drove one i had trouble reaching the pedals ( im 5′3), so i just want to know if the seat(s) can be moved closer so i can reach the pedals more comfortably.
A: Yes! Ofcourse they can.
Q: Is the Chevrolet El Camino a practical car to drive?
I’ve talked to a few of my friends about the car but they said that it wasn’t really that popular and didn’t sell to well. I was just wondering why and the mpg the car.
A: The El Camino was built in the days when GM cars were very dependable and inexpensive to maintain. The fuel economy isn’t great, but they are holding their value very well.
It wasn’t very popular because Camaro, Monte Carlo, and Malibu/Chevelle were all being produced at the same time.
Q: Is the Chevrolet El Camino considered a sports car or pick-up?
I’m wondering whether my insurance will see this as a sports car a jack up my insurance rate. I have State Farm.
A: Had one (insd w/SF) It’s a pick-up
Q: What is the gross vehicle weight of a 1972 Chevrolet El Camino SS with a 350 crate engine?
Me and my brother are trying to fiure out how much his truck weights and were getting small gross vehicle weights like 4200LBS which is impossible because that means it weighs less than a mustang or like a g35 coupe? So anyone who really knows this info please help us out because his car feels like it weighs a lot more than my mustang but yet it says that its like 400-500 pounds LIGHTER!!!
A: The 1972 weighs in at about 3300 pounds but the 1973 is 3600 pounds.
Q: Chevrolet El Camino for a new driver?
I am a new driver and I was wondering if getting a Chevy El Camino would be a good idea. I do not want to get a new car, but I don’t want to be spending alot of money fixing a used car. Are El Caminos good cars that will last or do they usually break down?
A: As someone who owns a ‘78 El Camino as a daily driver, this question is appropriate! I’ll try and give you the best advice I can. Even with a newer car around 2000, you can still have problems. The key is finding an El Camino in nice mechanical shape, cause there are plenty of abused ones out there. So be careful inspecting any that you happen to look at. The last year El Caminos were made was 1987 and there are still plenty on the road. That is a testament to their build quality. But unfortunately 70’s and 80’s GM cars had poor rust protection, so many driven in the north have deteriorated over the years. If you don’t drive ‘em in salt and snow, the body will last with no problem.
But always expect to have a couple things go wrong, even with a good example. They are old cars, so occasionally need things replaced. But fortunately with older cars like El Caminos, they are simpler and easier to work on yourself! Plus parts for old GM cars are very cheap compared to newer car parts. So if you do the work yourself, you’ll save a lot of $$$.
El Caminos are pretty neat cars though, and something unique among all the boring new cars. You can get G-body El Caminos for good prices nowadays (1978-1987). The 1973-1977 models usually aren’t that expensive either. My advice is to get one with either a 305 or 350 V8. The 4.3 V6 is a fine motor but only will get 2mpg better than a 305 or 350 V8.
Q: When you see a man driving a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino, do you automatically assume he beats his wife?
A: Yes.
And by yes, I mean no.
And by no, I mean I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Q: Solenoid /starter Wiring. 1982 el Camino Chevrolet?
Does anyone know the wiring for solenoid /starter wiring for 1982 el Camino Chevrolet
Maybe a diagram? I know it has 3 cables that were once all together but I think that is wrong and could be harmful.
Please help
A: the three wires that were on the battery terminal are okay.on e goes to the battery positive, the second will connect to the alternator output term(the big one)and the third will connect to a junction block on the fire wall
the solenoid wire is purple. it may not have power until in park or neutral(auto trans) or the clutch is depressed(manual trans). Good luck, take your time,it will work, especially if you re connect the ground cable. This wiring has been used on all GM cars for years, the color codes are the same.
Q: Does anybody know of a show or organization that might be able to rebuild my dads 1980 Chevrolet El Camino?
A: Why not ask what you really mean. Can your father’s El Camino be restored at someone else’s expense, rather than you or your father paying for it.
If you want something, you should work hard, save your money and pay for what you want. Rather than begging, earn your own way.
The best helping hand is located at the end of your own arm
Q: How much do you think I could get for a Chevrolet 1979 El Camino in perfect condition?
I need to know how much I could get for it?
A: In VA, and in perfect condition, I’d say around $6000-$8000. If it is a 4-speed then the higher but more than likely you won’t get more than $5000 for it. If you want to make some money on it then hold on a few more years. They’re getting more and more popular again. I saw a couple average one’s for sale today for around $3000 on craigslist.
Q: does a 1979 chevrolet el camino have lead paint on it?
i sanded the paint off without a mask and i hope i dont have lead poisoning.. i have been getting headaches and body aches..
A: ACRYLICS WERE USED ON THAT CAR BUT NOT CLEAR COATING. SORRY ABOUT YOUR HEADACHES. COOL 1979 MINCHE
Q: Does the Chevrolet El Camino have high insurance?
A: we’re talking old cars. love to find one in good shape… insurance should be low considering it’s probably classified as a pick up….
Q: How can I keep mice from making my El Camino their home?
I have an old Chevrolet El Camino that does not get driven very much. Mice have made their home under the dashboard. I have trapped 2 of them, but more will move in
Is there something that will keep them out?
A: Peppermint Oil. Take a cotton pad, or cotton balls and soak them in Peppermint Oil and put them in the car, under the dash where you can reach, or set them in a small tuna can or something on the floor. It will keep mice and rats out, and unlike other things such as mothballs which do it also, it will not smell bad like the mothballs. Change your cotton balls every so often so that it maintains the smell in there. I have lived in the country for over 35 years and we have mice and pack rats, and they love to chew on the electrical wires under the dash board. This will keep them out. I do it in my Mobile Home Also.
I have a ‘66 and an ‘83 El Camino, and it works on them. I very seldom drive them, usually drive one of my other cars. Single and Car Poor. 5 vehicles. LOL You can get Peppermint Oil in some drugstores, but it is cheaper to look it up on the Internet and order it there in a larger bottle.
Q: Chevrolet El Camino!?!?!?!?!?
Was the Chevrolet El Camino(Also known as the Chevy Conquistador, and GMC Sprint/Cabellero) known as a muscle car? It came as an SS variant which was only offered by Chevrolet on muscle cars.
Well, as it also being a truck, i wouldn’t have thought at first it being a muscle. I have always thought of it as a muscle car/truck because of the intense power that it had came with.
A: It seems to me that it may be considered a muscle car or truck…I wouldn,t say it,s a collector type vehicle though…I watch many collector car auctions and i think I,ve seen maybe 3 in the last 7 years…This may change though…I wouldn,t buy one as an investment but I would buy one to make a drag car out of….
Q: I’m gonna fix a chevrolet El Camino how much money will I need?
im gonna buy a car from the junk yard how much money do you think I’ll need to build from scratch
A: 20 grand to do it right
Q: 69′ Chevrolet el camino?
does anybody know if i can go buy a whole engine for 69′ chevrolet el camino brand new like everything that goes under the hood
A: No you can’t buy one package with EVERYTHING under the hood.
Yes you can buy new SBC v8 engines, No you can’t buy a new stock engine for that car
Look at a GM goodwrench 350 crate engine, or GM performance parts crate engines.
You will still need a rad, hoses, brake booster, fan, shroud, wires, brake lines, fuel lines, etc etc for everything under the hood
