Q: Chevrolet silverado?
okay so i’m getting a 2001 Chevrolet silverado 1500 LS sportside…and i want to get some people’s opinion on the truck. because alot of websites don’t have many reviews for this one. thank you

A: i must disagree with the first answer. These trucks have TONS of power and torque…especially with any of the 3 v8 engines offered. These trucks hold up very nicely, and you will most likely be satisfied. kbb.com has some great reviews for this truck, also check out:
http://www.fullsizechevy.com
good luck with your new truck,

Q: Chevrolet Silverado?
How much do you think it will need to fill up a Hybrid silverado. How much does it take to fill up a silverado right now?

A: The cost to fill up a Silverado and Hybrid Silverado is the same.

Around $80 depending on your gas prices.

The Hybrid version gets a 5-6mpg better average.

Q: What size factory speakers come in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado single cab truck?
What size factory speakers come in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado single cab truck? I have blown my speakers and want to buy some new ones to replace them. I can’t find my book that came with the truck and have been unable to find the info online. I just need to know what size they are. I am guessing to sets of 4X6 speakers but am not sure. Can anyone find the specs online?

A: check www.crutchfield.com if you go to car speakers and select your truck it will say what fits and where.

Q: What can I do to give my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado more power?
I have a 2000 chevrolet silverado, 4.8 liter vortec, i have added a performance chip, and a cold air intake, it has about 280 horsepower, what can i do to boost it up some more?

If i was to buy a turbocharger kit, what all would have to be modified?

A: wow you may never be happy with it at this rate

well your running out of options here but camshaft, exhaust, intake manifold, head work, and other things could still be done but will require more ECM programming to be done of course.

what about your injectors, had them modified yet?

Q: What system should i get for a 2005 Chevrolet silverado 1500 extended cab?
I just got my 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 extended cab and im wondering what system i should get for it. I want deep bass and a good amp for a reasonable or low price. Any help is appreciated.

A: close your eyes and trust your ears. take your fave cd to the local car audio store and just take half an hour to listen to different models.

it depends how much you want to spend as well.

if you arent willing to fork out a few hundred then stick with factory. Competent installation alone will set you back at least 100 bucks for the simplest system.
the deck another 100+
and four (decent) spkrs 200+ ($120 rear6×9 and $ 60 front 5″

An amp another 100 + as well as extra installation.

grand total $500 minimum for a decent sound but to get the bass you hear in cars in traffic you are looking at thousands

Q: Where can I get online a cd for repairing a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado transmission?
I need a CD or DVD that I can play on my tv showing me how to repair a transmission on a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado Pick up truck. I need a free one I can record from online and burn to a cd or dvd.

A: just go buy a cheap car its not worth repairing unless it has some sentimental value, because a 92 Chevy that has to have bad gas mileage

Q: Why does my 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 have trouble starting?
I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS with a 5.3L V8 and I am having trouble turning over my engine. Sometimes it will start without any problems and other times it can take multiple times. Should i think about replacing my starter, spark plugs or what? I have had this problem for awhile now but seems to be getting progressively worse. Please help.

A: get to auto electrician ask for a starter motor and battery check , or take the battery to a tyre shop to be checked if both are ok then you can look at any other possibilites as it,s a 2001 car it may be a good idea to get a cylinder compresion check, before you start changing lot,s of components

Q: I am painting my 1992 chevrolet silverado, should i take off the lining strip?
I am painting my 1992 chevrolet silverado the laser blue metallic color. Across the truck at the bottom, there is a black and chrome strip. I am designing my truck to be put in truck shows and i am wondering if i should take this strip off, and will it look better? Also, please give me tips on things i can do to make my truck look good . Remember i am painting it laser blue metallic. I want my truck to look like a true racer, without making too many big modifications.

A: Remove the strip if you’re going to do it right. It will look better without the strip for showing. Lowering it a few inches will help with the ‘racer’ look also. Do a Google search for NASCAR trucks if you want some appearance ideas.

Q: What are all of the RPO Codes for a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado?
Where can I find a copy of the original build sheet (the window sticker) of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado?

A: I work at a dealership. If you want to email me your vin, I’ll send you the rpo codes…

Q: Chevrolet Silverado service engine light is on, also bad gas mileage?
I have a 2003 chevrolet silverado with a 5.3 l v8. The engine light keeps comming on and autozone tells me it is fireing a fuel systems and emmisions sensor. I am wondering if it is somehow connected to me getting around or less than 10 mpg? I replaced air filter, spark plugs, and used some injector cleanor, nothing seams to help. any ideas?

A: You need to take it to a dealer. Have their service dept. check the codes. Even if what you have serviced so far fixed the problem the computer system will still need to be cleared before it will run properly. Most dealer service depts. have the same hourly rate for labor, and if they service your truck then they will take the diagnostic fee off of your total bill, and their mechanics are certified and experienced for Chevrolet. In most cases like yours it is a sensor that is bad, your computer system will adjust your emissions and timing to compensate for this, but if you do not fix the original problem then it will just cause other damage and cost more to reapir.

Q: Whats may be wrong with my Chevrolet Silverado transmission?
I just bought a 96 Chevrolet Silverado and when I give it the gas to pass someone up and it drops gear and builds rpms.It keeps getting stuck. The rpms stay inbettween 3 and 4.I got the transmission flushed today, but it’s still doing it.Should I get the trnsmission rebuilt?

A: sorry but i cant answer that question lol
xx

Q: Ok im wondering if a 1985 chevrolet silverado is a good first truck for a seventeen year old?
Im 17 years old and im looking for my first truck to buy and i want to buy a 1985 chevrolet silverado for my first vehicle is it a good truck or not. And i dont want a little ranger or s10 i dont want anything to deal with those i like big pick up trucks.

A: Yes they are good trucks and they are really simple to fix when they break down. All vehicles break down though so don’t let anyone on here try to fool you by saying that some kind of vehicle does not. Hope I have been helpful.

Q: What’s the biggest engine I can put in my 1985 Chevrolet Silverado Single Cab Short Bed?
What’s the biggest engine I can put in my 1985 Chevrolet Silverado Single Cab Short Bed?

A: the biggest bad boy by GM is the 572 like the others guys said but its gonna cost you $10,000 and up

Q: Is this a good deal for a 1992 chevrolet silverado?
I am selling my 1992 Chevrolet Silverado 5.7lt. V.8 for $3,700. It has 187,000 miles on it and it just got a brand new paint job. Is this a good deal??

A: Sounds like a great deal to me.I know how long the chevy pick ups last with normal maintance.$3.700 sounds good for a 92 silverado with a 5.7 in it.Best of luck.

Q: Do you think the laser blue metallic color will look good on my 1992 chevrolet silverado?
ok…i have a 1992 chevrolet silverado and i need some opinions! Do you think that the laser blue metallic color will look good on my truck! This color is used on the 2007 GM vehicles and i want to paint my truck that color! I realy need advice!

A: I find that many people are looking to upgrade their vehicle with a new model year color paint. Like the prior years that color will become popular and dated. If you paint your 92 like a 07 it will look great till everyone has a laser blue metallic truck. Why dont you go to a paint shop and pick a new color that is unique and something you like?

I would bet whatever color your 92 is, it was hot in 92…now its dated…think outside the box.

Q: what would you prefer? a 2006 Ford F-150 slightly barely used? or a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado used of course?
i got an offer for a red chevy silverado, 2003 that had about 20,000 miles on it, it was nice and all, the price was around $22,000. this was at a preowned dealership. at a new ford truck dealership i got an offer for a 2006 Ford F150 with around 5,000 miles only a little more on the tag, $25,000. i came out with the same amount down payment and around the same amount monthly payment…which would you have taken? the thing about this was that since i have kinda shaky credit, the first salesman was trying to get me financed like really hard, but i left his dealership with an “i’ll call you later with the results” so while i was waiting i decided to go to this dealership that i had heard alot about, in no time at all i chose the truck i wanted, financed it and while it was being washed and waxed about 6hrs. later salesman #1 calls and says he finally got me approved, to which i answered nevermind i already bought a truck, what would you have done, gone for the better deal like i did?
i felt bad afterwards for salesman #1 being as how they earn theyre paycheck by commission. but a good deal is a good deal right? dont get me wrong, the salesman at the ford dealership sold the heck out of that truck, and he earned that sale too, i just left salesman #1 with the impression that i was going to buy a truck from him….a question i ask myself is “what the hell took him so long?”

A: check the kelly blue book and see what the vechicles are worth . thats kbb.com .then you need to see what the intrest rate of each vechile loan is and what the bottom line will be at payoff.also if you are trading in make sure that you check the kbb on your trade in is . you can use this for leverage when dealing at the table.also check out what kind of warranty for each .check to see if you can tranfer the factory waranty for the ford

Q: How much gasoline does a 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 USE?
an estimate or so?

please and thankyou

A: A short trip it’ll use about one gallon. If you drive it farther, it’ll use more. =^ )

Q: Chevrolet Silverado service engine light is on, also bad gas mileage?
I have a 2003 chevrolet silverado with a 5.3 l v8.
Q: Can I get a factory remote start for a 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD Silverado?
Buying a used 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I was wondering if you can get chevy remote start/keyless entry unit for this truck. I know they are pretty standard for 2007 and newer but do they make parts to fit the older trucks? Thanks

A: yeah you have to buy it aftermarket though

Q: Do you think the laser blue metallic color will look good on my 1992 chevrolet silverado?
ok…i have a 1992 chevrolet silverado and i need some opinions! Do you think that the laser blue metallic color will look good on my truck! This color is used on the 2007 GM vehicles and i want to paint my truck that color! I realy need advice!

Q: Does the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD have a recall on the speedometer and gas gauge?
My speedometer and gas gauge began to malfunction in Janurary 2010. The speedometer works occassionally. The gas gauge indicator, when the tank is filled, goes all the way straight down towards the floor and when about half of the fuel is used, it occassionally will adjust to the proper setting. The Chevrolet service manager stated concerning the gas gauge that it was not the gauge but was a problem within the tank and would cost a consider amount of money to fix as they would have to remove the tank.

A: HI!

You have NO Cable to operate your Speedometer. it is all electronic ( and i do not mean digital ! ) The Speed Sensor could not be at fault for this type of Problem either!

I have seen this Many Many times in Chevy , Gmc , Buick , Pontiac Etc vehicles. They even will warranty the cluster thru the dealership!!

The Problem lies in the Speedometer Cluster. These Clusters made after 2000 have Stepper Motors to drive ALL the gauges including the SPEEDOMETER ! The Tachometer and Speedometer are the Most prone to failure as they are used the most!

It is best to have the Instrument Cluster Removed and Repaired or Replaced. A junkyard Replacement is ok but make sure you get a guarantee.

I pull at least one cluster a week and repair them for this same sort of problem!

I would charge $160 to repair the cluster plus shipping.

I guarantee my work for 2 years.

I hope this helps Good Luck!

Q: What are the different types of Chevrolet Silverado trucks?
i’m looking to get a used one as my first car, i just want a standard one with a regular back seat and regular everything. is that a 1500? what would it be called?

A: The truck with a back seat but not four doors is called an extended cab. It is available in 1500, 2500 and 3500.

Q: How difficult is it to replace shocks on a Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
I have a 2004 2WD 1500. I have never replaced shocks on any car or truck. I have decent mechanical knowledge and I was told by a few people that shocks are pretty easy. I can replace brakes and pads in under and hour so how hard can the shocks be to do?

Also I am replacing all four corners, it currently has the original shocks at 80k miles. I was looking at some Bilstein shocks to replace whatever they used from factory.

A: its not hard at all i found that KYB is better than Bilstein

Q: 1994 Chevrolet Silverado-what years are compatible for interchanging parts?
My husband has a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado, with extended cab and long bed. He wrecked it and bent the frame. The engine and transmission are still in GREAT condition, and he would like to find the shell of another Chevrolet Silverado that has a good frame and body to put his engine and/or transmission in.

Can anyone tell me what years are compatible? It need not be extended cab nor long bed.

Right now, his truck still runs. We have been using it on the farm.

A: Depends on your motor , But should fit most chev`s from 88 -95. The trans is the same , the driveshafts are different

Q: Looking for a used Chevrolet truck! In Arkansas?
What I’m looking for is a Chevrolet Silverado, year 1999 to 2003, sportbed or step side, or even regular bed.. Please let me know if you know or have a truck like this for sale somewhere in Arkansas or close to Arkansas within reason. Thank you much!

A: HAHAHAH a used truck in Arkansas. I bet that’s hard to find.

Q: What do I need to hook up subs to my factory radio in an 08 Chevrolet Silverado.?
I have some subs and an amp from my old truck and want to put them in my new truck but does anyone know what I would need to make the amp work and to push bass to my subs without turning up the bass to my regular speakers since I just want to keep using my factory radio? Thanks in advance.

A: actually the answer above is wrong, you don’t necessarily have to get that connector, most amplifiers will come with a high level input through witch you can connect the amp to the stereo by just tapping the speaker wire. I just posted explaining how to do this, here is the link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am08JqcccNGUNkgQiJUog2bsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090620121543AA0iApV&show=7#profile-info-e6ZNZbEuaa

mine is the first answer.
hope the info helps.
HALOZANDER

Q: Would you still drive a 2007 chevrolet silverado 2500HD?
Would you still have it if you weren’t actually using it as a work truck? I got one from an auction it is a crew cab, gas type, and it is an LT. They were giving it for 12,000 and that is a cheap price for that truck so I got it because who knows if a nicer truck will be auction off again. So would you still keep it if you were not using it as much for work?

A: As all big truck/SUV drivers are finding, gas is too expensive. You got the truck cheap because of high fuel costs, and yes, more will be given away in the future. A truck is great to have around, but you better think about a better MPG daily driver, unless you don’t drive a lot, then it is fine. If you don’t need it, try to sell it now and hopefully make a buck on it.

Q: How reliable is an older Chevrolet Silverado?
I’m turning 16 soon and my mom is giving me around $10,000 for for my first car what car I really want is a used Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab but what I have been noticing when searching for one on the internet is that almost all around my price range have high mileage, around 140,000. So what I was wondering is how reliable are Silverados with high mileage?

Also would it be a better choice to get one that doesn’t have the extended cab without high mileage or to get a Dodge ram 1500 quad cab (they are reasonably cheaper)?
Im lookig for around 2003 or 2004

A: I bought mine new in 1993. I now have just over 375,000 miles on it, and have not had any major engine work yet. But then, I change the oil regularly, do all the maintenance regularly, so I won’t have a problem. My answer to you is this… ask to have it check by a good mechanic of your choice before you commit a lot of money for something. It’s best to find out if the truck has been care for or abused. It’ll be worth the few bucks it’ll cost you. As far as the Silverado goes, I’ve been happy with it, its held up well, and after 16 years, still going strong.

Q: Bad Quality Sound When I Plug My IPod Nano Into AUX Input In 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Truck?
The quality is alot less vrs a CD. I am using the factory installed AUX input jack in my factory stereo and a Griffin TuneFlex. It plugs into my 12 volt lighter plug, then a cable from there to the AUX on my stereo. My IPod snaps into the Griffin TuneFlex. Any ideas on why the sound quality is so bad? Thanks for any help.

A: Other people aren’t very happy with the Griffin.

http://store.apple.com/fi/reviews/TQ076ZM/A?n=ipodnano2&fnode=MTY1NDA2MQ

See how it sounds without the Griffin- just patch the iPod to the AUX input and run it on its own batteries. Let the iPod sit in a cupholder. Start with iPod volume low and increase until it sounds right.

Q: Chevy’s latest 0% financing deal for 60 months. Does that happen to apply to a (barely) used 2007 Silverado?
Reading the Chevrolet website, it only says 2007, it does not specify new or used. I’m just curious if I could get that free money on a slightly used vehicle as well. It would be like getting my cake and eating it too.

A: No. Sorry. new only. the used rate is 4.9 for 48mo or 5.9 for 60mo. If you can find one that you like new is a better deal with the 0 for 60 or 1.9 for 72mo.

Q: Chevrolet silverado information?
Well I’ll be driving in less than a year and I want a truck I LOVE Chevy’s but I heard they tend to have brake problems? I guess I just want to know about that if you have one or other problems they might lead to have or even what you like about it. I wanted to know this because I was up north and there was a 98 chevy silverado for sale and my grandpa told me they had horrible braking systems.

thanks!!

A: On my Silverado I replaced the rotors and pads on front. On the rear I replaced the shoes and wheel cylinders. This was right about at 100k miles. It now has 177k miles and the brakes are still fine.

Q: Pros and Cons on 03-06 Chevy Silverado’s?
I’m getting my first truck and I can’t decide which one. Which chevy silverado should I go for?

Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: when will the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4WD LTZ Long Box arrive at dealers for sale?

A: Sometime in Late April or early May. Production on diesels begins in April so they’ll probably start showing up on lots in June.

Q: Is there anywhere online to find programming instructions for keyless remotes for a chevrolet silverado?
I’ve got a new remote from a garage sale that an old lady had and she didn’t have the instructions anymore. When i bought my truck the book was gone and I don’t have mine. Is there a website by GM somewhere or is it posted anywhere ???

A: You don’t program the remote. You program the cars computer to accept the remote. Post the year of the vehicle and I could probably help you out as GM doesn’t like to give out service info for free.

Q: any one have a transmission for sale in good shape?
I am looking for a transmission for a 1994 chevrolet silverado 1500 extended cab and long bed…

A: Have you thought about trying to look on Craig’s List or even Auto Trader under the parts section. If your looking for that trany they go quick as you probably already know. You might think about getting your rebuilt though I know that will cost a fortune too. But it is an alternative. Then you would at least know what you have.

Q: Engine stalls when idling, Auto Zone On Board Data code refers to emissions like air pump,?
1999 Chevrolet Silverado WT Truck 6 cylinder Automatic trans. 2 wheel drive. I was going to purchase an air pump but it was not listed for sale at auto stores. No pump is on the pulley system. Any suggestion for cause will be helpful. Fuel Pump and filter in line were just replaced with OEM parts. Son is going to school so money is limited.

A: Check your EGR valve.Make sure the hoses and wires are connected.

Unbolt it and make sure the valve is not stuck open from exhaust carbon deposit build up that flows through it.

The EGR should only operate at cruising speed (hwy speed) .
Not at Idle or full throttle.

Q: Do you think Ford or GM’s bailout plan is better?
Ford notes that their company has sufficient liquidity to survive the economic recession as long as it doesn’t last too long, but requests a $9 billion “stand-by” line of credit in case they need it. Ford’s plan focuses on plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, not mentioning hybrids and only briefly mentioning biofuels (flex-fuel vehicles).

“The next major step in Ford’s plan is to increase over time the volume of electrified vehicles, as battery costs improve and as the transition from Hybrids to Plug-in Hybrids to Battery Electric Vehicles occurs.

Next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, we will discuss in detail Ford’s accelerated vehicle electrification plan, which includes bringing to market by 2012 a family of hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles. Our work will include partnering with battery and powertrain systems suppliers to deliver a full battery electric vehicle (BEV) in a van-type vehicle for commercial fleet use in 2010 and a BEV sedan in 2011. We will develop these vehicles in a manner that enables us to reduce costs and ultimately makes battery electric powered vehicles more affordable for consumers.”

http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/Ford_Motor_Company_Business_Plan122008.pdf

GM asks for an $18 billion term loan, including up to $10 billion by March ‘09.

“GM will launch the ground-breaking Chevrolet Volt in 2010. As indicated in Table 8, GM is investing over $750 million in the Volt and its propulsion system, prototypes of which are currently on test at GM‘s Milford Proving Grounds. An extended-range electric vehicle, the Volt will deliver up to 40 miles on a single electric charge, well within the daily commute of approximately 80% of Americans.”

“General Motors will also continue to invest in hydrogen fuel cell technology”

“The Plan includes further increases in flex-fuel and hybrid-equipped vehicles. In 2012, over 50% of GM‘s new vehicle sales will be flex-fuel capable. Regarding hybrids, GM offers six models today – more than any other manufacturer – and will introduce the VUE Two-Mode hybrid, along with the Silverado and Sierra hybrids in 2009. By 2012, GM will offer 15 hybrid models.”

http://climateprogress.org/2008/12/02/bailout-plans-ford-drops-hydrogen-cars-while-gm-remains-confused-about-ethanol/#more-4345

What do you think of these plans, and whose bailout plan do you prefer?

A: Hydrogen is a dead-end for the foreseeable future but both companies offer compelling alternatives. Flex fuels and plug-in hybrids are good interim steps until we have better batteries or capacitors to power our cars and the infrastructure to keep them powered. The Chevy Volt is very promising but it’s going to cost so much that a large tax rebate or other incentive will be required for it to be widely adopted in a short time. We need to stop using prime farmland to produce fuel, it’s among the stupidest ideas ever, especially when you can use switchgrass or algae on marginal land and produce several times as much ethanol per acre as you can from corn. Alas, the politicians are in charge of this so I don’t expect much insight to be shown.

Overall, I like Ford’s plan better because it’s cheaper and seems to bypass the folly of hydrogen (which will probably only be a good energy source when we have fusion reactors). The GM plan costs more but offers flex-fuel options and talks about the new for hybrids. In reality we have no choice, politicians simply won’t let millions of manufacturing jobs (all union jobs) go away. In either case this is just a down payment on what it will cost to transition from fossil fuels but since the auto makers need loans the government can exert pressure they would otherwise never accept. Such as mandating electric, hybrid and flex-fuel cars. The next problem is getting people to give up their gas guzzler but once the world economy rebounds gas prices will skyrocket higher than ever, and that might help change minds.

Both plans seem to overlook the fact that even with loans, it may be years until car sales recover to last year’s levels so they may need to do some major downsizing until then. With the unions involved that’s unlikely so I expect more loans to be requested unless they find a way to force us to buy cars when we’re not sure we’ll have a job next month.

Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

By 2012, GM will offer 15 hybrid models.”

http://gmfactsandfiction.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/restructuring-plan-for-long-term-viability.pdf

http://climateprogress.org/2008/12/02/bailout-plans-ford-drops-hydrogen-cars-while-gm-remains-confused-about-ethanol/#more-4345

Q: How do you install Front Wheel Bearings on a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado Truck 2wd.?
the bearings are now included in an enclosed hub – called hub bearings. its different than it was on older trucks. the bearings are actually enclosed.

A: Jack truck up, place on jack stands,
Remove wheel, and brake caliper (no need to take brake line off, use a block to sit caliper on, or a clothes hanger to hang caliper with so force aint on the line.

Look at your rotor, pop the grease cap off the center with a flat blade screw driver..

Remove cotter pin with screwdriver and plairs, take off castle nut and large washer off.

Pull rotor out then push back in.. That will wiggle the outter wheel bearing so you can grab it, remove that bearing

Now pull rotor off.

On the back side of rotor you will see the seal, pop it out with a flat blade.

Now lift out the winner wheel bearing.

Check the bearing races (inside hub) if any signs of wear replace them (drive out with large punch and drive new ones in with race/seal/bearing driver tool)

Pack new inner bearing with grease, install in rotor, put new seal in,

Put rotor back on

Pack outter bearing and put in rotor

Put washer, castle nut nut back on.

Tighten nut untill you can’t turn rotor any, then back off the nut 1/2 turn to 5/8 turn..

Put cotter pin back in it, fill with grease, and pop cap back on.

Put caliper on,

Install wheel

Q: How do I remove the sparkplug wires off the plug? Its a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Truck.?
Does it require a special tool? What part does the metal sleve serve? THANKS

A: just pull…there is nothing special to it. They just snap in.

Q: Any Maintenance Issue With 1995 Chevrolet Silverado 4×4 truck?
I have a 1995 chevy z71 when you put it into 4 wheel drive it makes a loud grinding noise.

A: It may just need some transfer case grease.

Q: How can you turn off the “Service engine soon” light on a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.?

A: Maybe you should service engine soon and it might just got off itself

Q: Chevrolet Silverado and Toyota Tundra Truck Question Please Help?
For the Chevrolet Silverado what is the difference between the 1500, 2500, and the 3500 and which one do you like more? and what kind of truck should I get a Chevrolet or a Toyota Tundra?
Also for the chevrolet Silverado what is the difference between the WT, LT, and the LTZ?
I do not want a ford or any other truck I specifically said Chevrolet and Toyota

A: WT, LT, and LTZ are different trim levels.

WT ( work truck) is the base trim.
LT is a higher trim level.
LTZ is the top trim with leather, power this, power that….

1500 = 1/2 ton
2500 = 3/4 ton
3500 = 1 ton

They tell you the payload.

They originally indicated the maximum payload of the vehicle, however modern pickups can typically carry far more than that.

The Tundra and the Silverado 1500 are excellent 1/2 trucks. I would suggest you drive both. The truck market is more competitive than ever. People tell you “Toyota can’t make a real truck” or “American trucks are made like crap” are fanboys. I’ve driven every truck on the market. They’re all impressive and have tons to offer.

Q: I would like to know where the sensor counts of miles in my silverado chevrolet truck.thanks?

A: on the rear of the transmission on the tail shaft housing

Q: need info on high performance parts for 2005 chevrolet silverado truck?
camshafts and exhaust

A: Cam shaft you will need to go with something that the fuel management system can be compatible, usually one from GM Performance, BUT I would go with a programmer since it would be cheaper and easier to do, with about the same results, the exhaust go with a 2.5″ cat back and don’t forget a cold air intake, I like AFE

Q: where can i find a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado regular cab cowl induction hood for the new body style truck?
I have a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado regular cab new body style truck and i am looking for a cowl induction hood that is kinda cheap instead of like 650 bux hoods thanks

A: Try California Parts. On their web site.

Q: What do i need for my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck ? help!!!!!!?
My 2000 chevrolet silverado (5.3 L v8 engine) will not start on the first time. but on the secound turn of the key, it will start fine. when its REALLY hot outside, it will start right up on the first try. also, while it is running, when i press the accelerator down i lose speed and my RPM’s do not go up at all. it only does this sometimes. and it cut off on me once in a parking lot. but then cranked back up. i think i need to replace the fuel filter…?

A: a fuel filter and a good old tune -up will cure your problem.

Q: FULL size chevrolet silverado truck?
hi im interested in a chevy silverado…but..all the ones i have seen have only 2 doors and a long bed…. or 4 doors and a short bed..someone plz help me tell me if there is a 4 door, long bed chevy silverado….please include details..thankz

A: yes you can buy a 4 door crew cab, full size bed silverado. they arent very popular with normal people because since there is a full size box and a crew cab, the overall length is about 2-4 ft too long and does not fit into a standard garage

Q: What truck should I go for Chevrolet Silverado LTZ or a Ford F-150 Harley Davidson?
I want a very good buy but can’t decide which one, a lot of people say Ford sucks as well for Chevrolet. Which one will last longer run better and look nicer?

A: Toyota Tundra, but between the 2 you listed I would go with the Chev.

Q: I have a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 extended cab making strange noise?
My 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 extended cab is making a strange sound like a cracking, or tapping sound from underneath it but only when I accelerate from a complete stop. Can anyone help me with this please?
P.S. it is not the transmission because it was just replaced

A: Like a popping sound maybe? If it is a 4 wheel drive its probably the slip-yoke at the t-case output- you can lube the splines on the inside of the slip yoke and see if that helps- if it does but comes back- you need a new slip yoke- I am unsure if the 2 wheel drive has these problems or not but you can still try it and the same applies if lubing it helps you need a new slip yoke.

Q: How to access speakers in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic, extended cab?
I know in some Chevrolet vehicles you can just pop off the speaker grill and your all set. But for this truck do you have to take off the entire door panel or just the grills?
The rear speakers are in the doors, why would the back seat have to be removed?

A: the front doors have to be removed. there are a couple of 7mm screws, one around the bottom right i think, one around the handle that you pull to close the door and you have to remove the door lock indicator that slides back and forth and one screw behind that. i think there are 3, i could be wrong though. there is a torx screw underneath a little cap that pops off, the trim around the door handle has to come off and the triangle trim in the top corner has to come off. the door will lift up then you can unplug the window controls. if its just the extended cab, for the back doors there is one 7mm and the trim around the handle pops off then door is held on with pressure clips. good luck! fairly easy to do, the hardest part will be to get the plug out of the window controls. its hard to explain how it comes off on here. you will have to push a small clip in the middle of it then the other thing will slide over it releasing the plug. like i said, hard to explain it on here how the plug comes out but once you see it you will probably understand. let me know if you need more help.

Q: How do I fix the gas pedal on my 1994 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 so it isnt stiff when i start to accelerate?
I have a 1994 Silverado z71 with a 5.7 v8 and when I first start to accelerate the gas pedal is really stiff and hard to push and what happens is it gets past the stiff part and I end up launching the car as if in the start of a race. This stiffness is only the first half inch or so, the rest is normal. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this annoying problem?

A: Your throttle cable has a kink in.I had the exact same problem with my full size blazer. It was almost like the gas peddle was an on/off switch. Just go to the auto parts store and get you a new one and it is pretty easy to replace.

Q: Who makes the best cold air intake for a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 V8 5.3?
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a V8 5.3 engine.

I want to know who makes the best cold air intake, i want increased horsepower, the more, the better.

Thanks

A: I’ve always like K&N products. They make one for your vehicle and promise a modest gain of around 9.1 hp @ 5,300 RPM.

Q: I have a 92 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab and it kills gas quickly how can i get better mileage?
Oh yeah also how can i make it a little quieter, i dont think my truck even has a muffler. Well i wanna make it alot quieter, and is it true that smaller tires cause gas to burn quicker? I just need idea on how to get better gas mileage.

A: extra wide tires cause more friction and wind drag giving you more traction, but poor mileage. taller tires give you better mileage because you cover more ground per revolution. ____o _________O

Q: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the absolute best 1/2 ton pickup truck on the market! Who agrees?
It has a better interior than Ford or Dodge.
It has a better ride than Ford or Dodge.
It has better handling than Ford or Dodge.
It has better reliability than Ford or Dodge.
It has more real world towing capacity than Ford or Dodge.
It has more real world payload capacity than Ford or Dodge.
It has a better exterior than Ford or Dodge.
It is more fuel efficient than Ford or Dodge.

Toyota, Nissan, etc pickup trucks don’t count because they are far inferior.

Chevy Silverado 1500 is the best 1/2 ton pickup truck on the market!!

A: i have owned a f150 and it is the best truck i have driven. plenty of power and goes from high function to high luxury. and it is the best selling for how long now. that many owners can not be wrong.

Q: does the 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 ls come with a cd player standard?
does the 2000 chevy silverado 1500 ls come with a cd player?
like do most of them have one? some of them have one?
or do they all have one?
thanks

A: AllData list the 2000 silverado LS AND LT models comes factory with a AM-FM single CD radio. It also states on all base model trucks the AM-FM single CD radio is listed as a factory option.Best of luck.

Q: Is the transmission the same in A 1997 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs a 2500?
is it the same transmission, or a upgraded transmission something stronger?

A: The 1500 series trucks (5 and 6-lug wheels) used a 4L60E.
The 2500 series trucks (8-lug) used a 4L80E.

No they are not the same. The 80E can be placed in a half-ton truck (it will bolt to the engine), but you need to change computer parameters and the wiring harness. You can change the wiring harness and have the computer flashed. The 80E is a little bit longer, and you will need to modify the crossmember for mounting and shorten the rear driveshaft (also lengthen the front d-shaft if 4wd).

The 80E is stronger than the 60E. It (80E) was used in the heavier duty trucks and SUVs.

Q: What is the towing capacity of a 2000 chevrolet Silverado 1500 V6 ?

A: You should be able to find that out by looking on the side of the drivers side door. However about 7800 GVWR, I’m not an expert but have some experience in chevys, and towing weights. The best way to find out is to call your local chevy dealership and talk to there service department.

Q: Why does temperature gauge on 1991 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado flashes?
This is the gauge for the heater. I am getting very little heat, even when the truck is warmed up.

A: You are low on engine coolant and have an air bubble in the heater core. That’s why your idiot light is flashing and you’re not getting any heat. Top off your radiator with the engine running to purge the heater.

Q: Is a 1980 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 good, bad or average fuel economy?
I want a vehicle for my wife, but not a gas hog. thank you.

A: It depends on what you think is bad but, If it’s a V8 it probably gets between 10 and 15 MPG

Q: How much gasoline does a 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 USE?
an estimate or so?

please and thankyou

A: A short trip it’ll use about one gallon. If you drive it farther, it’ll use more. =^ )

Q: 2500 Chevrolet Silverado or Limited Edition Toyota Tundra?
Which should I get a 2500 Chevrolet Silverado or Limited Edition Toyota Tundra?

A: I would avoid the Tundra altogether for two specific reasons… severe issues of corrosion of the frame and other structural components have become widely reported and with Toyota’s recent problems, the future resale value of the vehicle is likely to continue to depreciate at a rate FAR faster than any other similar truck regardless of the manufacturer.

While I’d certainly opt for a Ford Super Duty as my truck of choice, of the two you mention, I’d decide in favor of the 2500 hands down.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Q: are 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 four by four or just a two wheel drive truck or both?
im buying this model truck but dont know if its 4*4 or 2 wheel drive its not listed

A: The 2500 came with either 2WD or 4WD. If there’s a picture, look at the fender behind the rear wheel. If it says 4×4, then there you go. If there’s no sticker, it still could be either. Wherever you’re buying it from, ask the person selling it, they should know.

Q: 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 LT or LS whats the difference?

A: go to kbb.com or edmunds.com for side by side comparisons

Q: im looking for electrical diagnostics for 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd?

A: you didn’t say for what part of the electrical you wanted it for,,its impossible to answer without knowing this..sorry i couldn’t help,,try and be more specific when asking a question so we can under stand what you need to know,,good luck with it.

Q: 93 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4X4?
4 wheel drive went away slowly, I know there is a solinoid on top of the front differencial, where on top and what am I looking for?

A: on the right side of differential there’s an axle tube that goes to the right side half shaft, the 4wd actuator is on top of that tube, i believe in 93 it is still freon charged so it can go away slowly and when it is cold, just unplug the wire and unscrew, you can update to an electric actuator, but on some models you need to grind the axle tube a little

Q: 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 – Do they have Cabin Filters?

A: yes they do. call a parts supplier and they can get one for you, most of them are easy to replace. your owners manual should explain it.

Q: fuel filling problem and engine light (code po446) on a 2004 Chevrolet silverado 2500 HD?
2004 chevy 2500 hd, has a hard time filling the gas tank. the pump keeps shutting off, like it thinks the tank is full. The engine light was on also. it gave a code for a small evap leak, so I used a smoke tester to find the leak. Nothing. I had changed the fuel tank pressure sensor. I figured that if the sensor was bad it would make it hard to fill and would throw the evap code. The light staid off for 3 days, but the filling problem was still present. Now the light is back on with a po446 code for fuel tank vent performance. I hooked up the computer and watched the data stream, it showed at an idle the purge valve was open and the vent closed. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around. I think the purge valve is bad, but want some input before spending $200
*it has a new cap
It has a new. The filling problem has been happening for some time. We’ve tried many different pumps and stations.
I did say the p0446 was for the vent performance. I checked the hoses when I had the tank partially down to change the pressure sensor.

I also found the TSB for the truck. Thing is when I talked to the Chevy dealer in town they said they haven’t dealt with any problems with hard filling. Their only advise was to try a different pump. Thank you GM!

A: This is a common problem on this model and GM has a Technical Service Bulletin out to fix it.
The vent solenoid and valve can become clogged with dust and dirt and cause them to fail. This is why it’s hard to fill, when you’re putting fuel in there’s nowhere for the air to go.

The T.S.B. # is 02-06-04-037C

For your 2004 model you will need to contact your dealer and ask for update kit part #19152349
And you will also need about 3 feet of bulk 3/4″ hose and 2 hose clamps

The repair is simple, remove the old vent solenoid assy which is simply clipped to the rear of your fuel tank and replace it with the one from the kit. Then use the bulk hose and filter supplied in the kit and route it over the tank and to the evep canister and secure it with tie straps. Then go to whoever read your code and have it cleared.

Note: there are more detailed instructions in the kit.

Best of luck!

Q: how much would a 09 chevrolet silverado HD 2500 weigh?

A: between 5,000 and 6,000 lbs depending on how its configured and options.

take time to drive it over a public scale and weigh it.

my 85 k10 turbo diesel has gotten fatter over time and now weighs 6,000lbs with tanks full and extra tools etc on board.

hope this helps

Q: 2001 Chevrolet Silverado oil consumption?
My family owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with the 6.0 liter Vortec engine. It has 64,000 miles on it with 5W-30 oil. The oil was changed at 60,000 miles and in 4 months it burned 1 and a 1/2 quarts of oil. We also towed a car for about 1,000 miles during that 4 months. Is all this normal or is there a problem? Thanks

A: Yes, it’s very normal for GM V8 cars to burn oil. You find this common in the “LS Series” motors. Ex. LS1, & LS6. You motor being a 6.0 is part of this series. Back in 2001 the Chevy Z06 vette had a major recall with the Z06 motor needing to be “re-ringed” to help reduce that oil consumption. I also recall that many of the 2000 thru 05,06 cadillacs like STS’s have a oil consumption issue, it’s something you need to keep an eye on especially when towing, the motor is working much harder and is consuming more oil.

My 2001 LS6 Z06 burns oil as did my 1997 STS, and my brother 1998 LS1 firebird did. Only cars that didn’t have an issue were our 1994 & 97 LT1 f-bodies.

Q: Chevrolet or Ford – Half-Ton (1500) and 3/4 Ton (2500)?
I’m getting a new truck, so which do you guys prefer out of the two brands of Pickup?

Chevrolet: Silverado__
1500
2500-HD

Ford: F-Series__
F150
F250

A: I, myself personally, am a Dodge 2500 Turbodiesel fan, but it’s not me buying the truck.

Half-ton, I’d go with the Chevy 1500. Both have won numerous awards, but the Chevy is newer, with a much better frame, and the engines alone are the reason to get this truck. More power and torque than Ford’s 5.4L Triton out of the Vortec 6.0L. And Chevy’s engines have Variable Valve Timing, so more power than Ford’s V8, and better fuel economy than Ford’s V8.

However, 3/4-ton, gotta go with a Ford F250, and I beg you to get the new twin-turbodiesel V8. Torque, hauling, and towing are off the chain dude. And you can’t go wrong with that new front end on the F250. SWEET.

Chevy Silverado 1500. Ford F250. Those are my choices. You’ll have to choose based on your daily needs.

Congrats on the purchase.

1500 = 1/2 ton
2500 = 3/4 ton
3500 = 1 ton

Q: I need tax help to determine the appropriate method of depreciation, What is the wt. of Silvarado Crew 2500?
What is the dry weight of a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD 2 WD Crew Cab? It has a Vortec 6000 gas engine and has an added towing package. The truck bed is 8 ft.

A: Your license application will show that info. For more, see a dealer or call the DMV of the city your in.

Q: 2005 Chevrolet 2500 6.0 bad oil pump common or not?
I have a 05 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with 50K miles. I had the oil changed on Saturday and this morning while driving to work the oil pressure went down to zero and the engine started making a “knocking” sound. I had it towed back to the place where they changed the oil and the mechanic there told me that he’s 100% sure it’s the oil pump. He also said that this is a common problem for these engines and the at he has replaced quite a bit of them. He told me he would have to replace the oil pump and the lifters. Has anybody had an issue with these oil pumps? Is it a common problem? I would appreciate any feedback thanks.

A: Well im a car dealer and have not see this unless the oil has not been changed like it should have been 3000 miles and sludge build up plugged the screen and pump.

Q: How do I pull the horn cover on a 2001 chevrolet silverado 3500 pickup?
I wondered if it took special tools to pull the horn cover on the steering wheel or not.

A: it takes a special puller to remove the steering wheel. the air bag just pops out with a release tool in the release hole on the side of the steering wheel

Q: Would a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD front bumper fit a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500LS?

A: yes it will fit since both are HD and they have the same frame, 1500’s are different frame

Q: where can you buy some 22 or 24 inch rims for a 2006 chevrolet silverado 3500 in dallas texas or near dallas?
My father owns a 2006 chevy silverado 3500, and has seen several other big trucks with 24’s.He has been searching on the internet, and hasn’t found any shops. He was about to buy some from the internet, but wasnt sure on how they were going to look on his truck, and the website had no pictures of trucks with the rims. He wants to find a place where he can see how his truck will look, but my mother is hoping on buying them as his christmas present, because he has been searching for months.

A: Have you tried Discount Tire? Call them and ask them and they can special order them for you and show them to you also. If you are in Arlington, go to the store on North Collins and ask for Jimmey. Tell him the Baker lady sent you.

1500 = 1/2 ton
2500 = 3/4 ton
3500 = 1 ton

Q: Is there a repair for composite fenders that will last?
I have a Chevrolet Silverado 3500 with composite fenders. I have been told that there is no way to repair them when they crack. Is there any repair that won’t crack with the vibration?

A: yes there is a real good way to repair them, epoxy ,will repair them and its permanent,i have done a few this way is the reason i know it will last,it works really well, use the slow setting though,it does a lot better, good luck.

Q: Chevrolet Silverado Rebel?
I was driving the other day and seen 2 really nice looking chevy silverados and it had “rebel” decals on it with some other fancy decals along the sides and I have been looking into buying a truck for a few months now but i cant find any chevy silverado rebels anywhere i look. So could anyone give me some info on these trucks. good or bad? gas mileage?, 1500 or 2500 or 3500 silverado? anything else? Thank you.

A: someone else put the decals on the truck.. sure as hell wasn’t GM.. uh lets see 99 and newer gm full size trucks have the 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l, and 6.2l v8s.. these motors are bulletproof.. the engine is going to last longer than the truck lol.. the engine shares components witht he ls1 motors the corvettes and camaros use..

Q: How big is the FORD Superduty F450?
I was wondering. How big is the new FORD Superduty F450 truck? Is it extremely big?
Because I’m trying to compare the superduty f450 with the Dodge Ram 3500, GMC Sierra 3500 and the Chevrolet Silverado SS to find out which of these 4 trucks are bigger in size.

A: we have used primarily F&E 350’s for our ambulances,[yes we are all ford] however with the super sizing of america, we needed more room in the “box” so last purchase was F450 with 4wd.
the cab and front end are the same as 350, the chassis is longer and with the wider stance it is still stable in high crosswind situations dodge does not have anything in this weight catagory and gm gets away from pickup based trucks and moves to the top kick line. our next purchase will be an E 450 and we will continue with two other f 350’s, 1-2wd, 1-4wd].

Q: OKAY WHAT MAKES A TRUCK A 1-TON,3/4 TON,1/2 TON Engine,Axels,Power,Torque (How much weight it can pull) what?
like iv’e seen a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a V6 and a V8 so would it still be a 1/2 with a V6 or V8? so the 3500 is Chevy’s 1-ton Right? Dodge goes by the same numbers 1500,2500,3500 they also have a V6 and V8 and Ford goes by ( F-150 which iv’e seen with a 6 and V8 ) F-250,F-350,
( F-450????? ) also what about like the Dodge Ram Van’s 1500,2500,3500 be just like 1-Ton,1/2 Ton,3/4 Ton Trucks? Also what about the Cadillac Escalade with the 400+Horsepower would it be classified as a 1-Ton or What? What would my
1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo it has the ( Magnum 5.2 Liter 318ci V8 4X4 ) Be Classified as a 1-Ton,3/4-Ton,1/2-Ton or not any? ( I Know it can pull 6500 lbs )

A: The weight or towing capacity is based on the:

springs; they must be stiff enough to support the weight.
tires; tire size must be large (wide) enough to safely carry the weight
brakes; they must be large enough to safely stop with the load

The engine and transmission do not affect the rating but trucks with a higher weight capacity usually come standard with a bigger engine, larger cooling system, and sometimes a heavier transmission.

Q: Why does Ford suck so bad now?
Seriously, I was looking up HorsePower on the new trucks and throughout Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge.. Ford has the lowest horsepower of all, and they lack in torque as well.
How can you claim to have the best trucks on the road when they have absolustly no power? The new Ranger 4.0 has 207 HP and the Dodge Dakota 3.7 has 210.. I mean seriously, how can you say you have the best trucks when you have no power built into them?
The F-450 V10 has only 362 horsepower while the Chevy Silverado 3500 has 372 and it’s only a V8.
I own a 95 Ford Ranger, and I was a Ford guy until I baught one. The F150 has 300 hp, while the Silverado has 315. I think the Ram 1500 has close to 342 or something. Seriously, has anyone else noticed this?
They dont last as long as Chevy or Dodge either?
you guys make a lot of sense… im not a lot on motors but i guess with this said ford is really one of the major motor companys

A: Come on, you’re splitting hairs. 207 HP versus 210? What is the total weight, the gear ratios, the torque ratings, etc. The 4.0 OHC is a fast revving engine that has good power through the torque curve, and can easily be tuned for 260 + horsepower. The 3.7 revs up fast, but doesn’t have the bottom end muscle of the 4.0. Same with the V10 – that’s like comparing a diesel to a gas engine, there are too many differences to make them comparable. It depends on the application. The base 4.6 F150 has 300 HP, the Silverado 1500 with a 4.8 liter produces 285 HP. You can get the 5.4 V8 from Ford that is capable of over 500 HP (in the Shelby GT500), the 4.8 Chevy won’t come close to that in standard trim.

Besides, like other people have said, its not just about power ratings. Ford has had the consistently highest numbers for years in reliability and owner satisfaction. If you’re not happy with your Ranger, you should trade it in on a real Ford, not a Mazda with Ford badges.

My question is in regard to the “Note” at the end of the description. I have a 2003 Tahoe Z71 with the Premium Bose system, why would this NOT be compatible? I’m looking to replace the stock in-dash unit with the Pioneer AVIC-F700BT and need to keep all the chimes and everything working, so I would need this wiring harness, but what’s the deal with the Bose system? Why would it not be compatible? Is there any alternative harness that WILL work? Thanks!

A: The Bose has a separate amplifier, with a different harness.
The compatibility issue has to do with the LAN communications. There are a certain number of modules programmed into the BCM memory, and when the LAN is powered up, it looks for the correct amount of modules. If one is missing, it sets a code and can disable other functions.
At the dealership where I work, I have seen the original radio pushed back inside the dash panel, still connected to the harness, and an aftermarket one in the space for the radio, which is then wired up separate from the OEM harness. This allows the chime and all other original functions to operate, but still be able to have the super powerful system in place. Just an observation and a suggestion.

Q: Help, do you think its worth the money?
I am interesteded in purchasing a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 Ext cab 2wd silverado. It has 115k miles, a dent on each side, custom exhaust, power everything, air bags, cd player, overall in good to fair to condition. only 2 things i would need for it is new tires and a new painjob. the person is selling it for $3500 but I negotiated it down to $3100. Do you think its worth the money?

A: I’d say no, you could get a better car for that same price. Try getting a Ford Explorer, better safety, the Chevy Silverado is not a good choice. Had one, done that.

Why would it not be compatible? Is there any alternative harness that WILL work? Thanks!

A: It would NOT be compatible because this adapter still uses the after-market head unit’s amplifier to drive the speakers. Your Trailblazer’s Bose system has its own amplifier. Nor can you use the aftermarket deck’s outputs to connect directly to the Bose amplifier.

Here’s how the “Premium Bose” system in your Trailblazer works: the factory head unit supplies a fixed left and right audio signal to the Bose amplifier. It also generates a control signal through the vehicle’s computer data bus. When you turn up the volume or adjust the fader, it doesn’t change the levels on audio signals between the Bose head unit and Bose amplifier (like most standard Bose systems work). Instead, it sends a data signal to the amplifier telling it to adjust the volume, or adjust the fader settings. Needless to say, the after-market head unit isn’t capable of producing the control data stream that the Bose amp is looking for…and neither is that Scosche adapter.

That particular adapter will work ONLY if you plan to bypass the Bose amplifier and replace the Bose speakers. In this case you can connect the new speakers directly to the head unit, or use an after-market amplifier, and the Scosche adapter will work. However, if you want to keep the Bose amp and speakers in the system, you need an adapter that will take the audio output from the new head unit and convert it to a fixed left/right audio signal and a data control signal, which the Bose amp can use. I’d suggest Metra’s GMOS-04.

Edit: I mis-read the type of vehicle you have. Actually, the Bose system in your Tahoe may be much different from the Trailblazer Bose system I described above. The Bose package in most Tahoe’s is a “standard” Bose system, not a “premium” Bose. If yours is a standard Bose system, then you could use the RCA connectors that come with the adapter to supply the Bose amp from your Pioneer deck’s RCA pre-outs. In this case, the Scosche adapter would work.

Here’s how you can tell the difference: just turn on the factory Bose radio, and adjust the volume. If there’s a slight delay between the time you turn the dial and the time the volume actually adjusts, then you probably have a premium Bose system, and you’d want the GMOS-04. If there’s no perceptible delay, then it’s probably a standard Bose, and the Scosche adapter would work (although the GMOS-04 would work too, and IMO it’s a more reliable product).

Q: How much gasoline does a 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 USE?
an estimate or so?

A: A short trip it’ll use about one gallon. If you drive it farther, it’ll use more. =^ )

Q: Pros and Cons on 03-06 Chevy Silverado’s?
I’m getting my first truck and I can’t decide which one. Which chevy silverado should I go for?

http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/Chevrolet-Silverado+1500-cars327358924
Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: What kind of gear oil does my 2006 Chevy Silverado need?
I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 (4×4) and I need to know what kind (SAE grade) of oil does my differential require?

For the record I have modified the truck quite a bit and I now have 627 rwhp so if that makes a difference in what gear oil I should use please do tell.

A: 80/90 gear oil. you can get it at auto zone with the limited slip additive in it.

Q: Where can I find the most and best aftermarket parts for an 88-98 GM 1500 truck?
I use to see parts all the time, but now I cant seem to find any good websites for the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1997 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 short bed single cab 5.7L vortech.

Thanks!
Looking for mainly exterior, engine and exhaust work is done

A: I have always enjoyed Summit racing. I am not sure what exactly you are looking for. But I have a 1989 K1500 Chevy pickup with a 5.0. Through Summit, I was able to purchase their own brand of headers and a “cat back” dual exhaust system for under $500. This system is CARB certified which means it was compliant with California smog. I then purchased a cam and lifters from my local machine shop for $200 that added excellent mid range torque.

I did all of this myself in my driveway. The headers and dual exhausts were simple bolt ins that didn’t require any hacking or special tools. I was able to do that within a Saturday afternoon. The cam and lifters were done the following Saturday.

I have also learned over the years to check local machine shops for heads and other parts. Sometimes you will get lucky because someone in the past has dropped off a set of heads for machine work, then they never come back to pick them up. The machine shop doesn’t want a set of heads taking up shelf space and will often make a smokin’ deal on them.

Q: Does anyone experience this problem with their Chevy Silverado?
Ok, I just bought this truck used from a Mitsubishi-Hyundai Dealership. It’s a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab Classic with a 4.3 Vortec, Code X and with only 17K miles on the truck. My problem is that the exhaust will make some strange vibration when I accelerate to 1200-1400 RPM. It sounds like a growling bear or somekind of noise, but diminishes when accelerated to higher RPM. But anyway my truck is still under factory warranty. Does anyone ever had this problem before?

A: Ok I have to ask what is a code X? Does it have a factory exhaust? Its possible its loose. If it has 17000 miles take it to a chevy dealer they can check it out.

Q: If i buy a used pick-up truck with 130,000 miles on it and put a new transmission in it, will it last?
If i buy a used pick-up truck with 130,000 miles on it and put a new transmission in it, will it last?
i am going to buy a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 in great shape with 130,000 miles for $5,999. If i buy this truck than buy a transmission do i have less of a chance of breaking down? will it last a lot longer?also, if you know how much a transmission for this car costs let me know please.
*********HERE ARE PICTURES**********

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail/photos/multiPhotoPopup.jsp?paId=137759837&tracktype=usedcc&aff=national#0

A: Figure 3 to 5 thousand. But it may not need one.

Engines and trannies, if taken care of, will last. Putting in a new tranny will not assure you of trouble free miles ahead.

What is going to get you is all the little systems. All the seals, all the joints, all the gaskets, all the sensors. Pumps, hoses, belts. These are “wear items”. Sooner or later, they will have to be replaced.

New vs Used cars is really a matter of “spend it now or spend it later.”
A new car is “perfect” but boy will it cost you.

Save your money, Do two things. Get the care checked at your local mech. Just to make sure you don’t have a cracked engine block or something. Second thing, get AAA. For the love of all that is true get AAA. Get the “tow me anywhere” coverage. This way if it does break down, you can get home safe.

Q: What Brand of truck would be best?
1. Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2. GMC Sierra 1500
3. Ford F150
4. Dodge Ram 1500

I only have $5,000 and I am looking for one to use with a 5′ x10′ utility trailer and to have the grandkids in the back seat. I was looking at those extended cabs etc. Thanks!

A: Number 1 or 2

Q: Chevy silverado repair question…. Easy 10!?
i own a 2000 Chevrolet silverado single cab 1500. 4.3L V6. My door speakers are very very bad, i mean i dont even use them. i was wondering if there is a Manuel for my truck. i need to know how to get the door panel off without breaking it. does anyone know of a like that i can find one??? Pleasse help me. ive tried googling it but got nothing uselfull….

A: remove EVERY screw you can see on the door panel, and GENTLY pry the bottom corner of the door panel up (there are clips that hold the panel to the door). Go SLOWLY, if it’s not “popping” off fairly easily you’ve missed a screw! Take you time and look closely for every screw! Hope this helps.

BTW- don’t cheap out on new speakers, you get what you pay for!

Q: I’m deciding to get a pick-up truck, which one i should get?
The trucks i’m looking for is either, a Ford F-150, Dodge Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado or the Honda Ridgeline. Any of them will do since i’ll be using it for heavy duty things like house renovations, carrying heavy items (Bricks, concrete, etc) and along with off-road driving, and harsh road conditions especially in winter.

A: Any of them WON’T do ! The Ridgeline is a great truck but it’s payload capacity is only 1550lbs. I’d go with the F150 or the Toyota Tundra. Make sure to check the payload capacities to see if it will suit your needs! The F150 payload capacity is 6450 to 8200 . If you carry more than that you may need an F250.

Q: Do you miss your first car?
My first vehicle was a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab. I loved that truck, but it became unreliable after the 200,000 mile mark. I sold it (mistake) and chose a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado Xtreme CrewCab for my second vehicle. I lost my Colorado in a flash flood when the sewer system at my girlfriend’s house got backed up. By the time the neighbors made it to our house to warn us, it was too late. The water was already up to the headlights. We pushed her down the road to get her out of the water, but she didn’t survive the flood. On the bright side, I got a nice insurance check and used that as a down payment on a 2008 Dodge Charger. I love my Charger, but sometimes I wish I still had my first truck. I had so many great times in that truck.

Do you ever miss your first car?

A: I don’t miss my first vehicle at all because I still have it. I’m 24 now and have had it since my dad gave it to me in the 6th grade. I don’t drive it much anymore but it’s a great truck. A 1951 chevy stepside.

Q: What tool do I need for my brakes?
It’s a 1995 Silverado Z71(4×4) 1500. I don’t know why, but Chevrolet decided to use a hex head bolt for the brake calipers on their front brakes and I don’t have any that size. If any of you have had to do the brakes on this model truck you will know. I’m going to have to buy a set for this and as you all know, set’s are almost always incomplete, missing a size here and there.

Oh, one more thing. My ball joints need to be replaced and I see that they are riveted into place. What is the best/easiest way to get these off? I could use an air chisel to get the head of the rivet off and then drill it out but I don’t have an air chisel. LoL Any ideas?

A: You can buy just the size you need which is 3/8″. As for the ball joints an air chisel is the best way you will be there all day with a hand chisel and a hammer.

Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: wheel fitment for chevy / dodge?
i found some rims for sale that were taken off of a 2004 Dodge ram 2500
i was wondering if these will fit me 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 HD ( 8 lug )

let me know
thanks
cole

A: it should. both patterns are 8 on 165mm. the hub centre might be different

I mean seriously…what answer did you expect? We can’t tell you how much to pay for it, because we’re not the ones buying it. If you think it’s worth it, then buy it.
