Q: Chevy S-10..?
I’m looking into buying a 2002 Chevy S-10 w/extended cab. Does anyone own the same/similar truck and what do you think of it?

A: I have one and love it. Make sure it has the 4.3 litre V 6 in it or you will be miserable. The 4 cylinder doesnt last long, but the 4.3 V-6 will run forever if you keep up with oil changes. Chevy has had some prob’s with the fuel pumps on the S-10 tho, so be advised the pump might go and it’s in the tank.

Q: Chevy S-10?
Im looking for a 1996-97 chevy s10 Im wondering if they’re reliable, easy to be mantained, good on gas. How Much does it cost to fiil it up and how big it the tank. Were there any real problems with that year. thanks for all of your input.

A: Almost a 20 gallon tank if I remember correctly…. driver side tank…. these years seemed to have noisy fuel pumps (but they last a long time)

4.3 v6 liter or 4 cylinder? They are pretty good on gas…. have a 96 with the 4.3, only problem is with the intake gaskets begin to leak after maybe 100 thousand miles(which are easily fixed with felpros) and well…. changing the spark plugs are hell and a half… being its such a big engine for such a small compartment..
Good power, and I mean good power….. lol

Heater core….. if it ever clogs up and needs replacing… its hell and a half to replace…. as its on the inside of the truck and requires removing the whole dashboard to get to it.

The 4 cylinder version I can’t help much…. do see them running around with 4’s… seem to do great..

friend has a larger truck with the 4.3 liter…. has around 150,000 on it and this guy drives it like he stole it and has 5 cops behind him, original everything.

Q: How do you put freon in a 2000 Chevy s-10 pickup?
I am trying to recharge the a/c on a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup. I purchased the 134a refrigerant and a recharger. With a screw on type adapter with a gauge. My question is where do I hook it to? And how much do I instill?

A: You need to add the refrigerant through the low side port. The low pressure port of the A/C system usually has a blue or black dust cap and is located either on the larger diameter metal tubing typically found between the evaporator and compressor, on the compressor itself, or on the receiver drier (orifice tube systems only).Only charge through the low pressure port. There is a web site with a lot of help full information about your auto a/c system check out the link below. You need to have a gauge to check your pressure on the low side port in order to know how much refrigerant you need to add.

Q: What is the weight of a 1995 Chevy S-10 Extended Cab Pickup Truck?
I am trying to find out the weight to my 1995 Chevy S-10 Extended Cab. The reason i need to know the weight is because this car will be a future drag car, and i would like to know how much it weighs for time purposes.

A: 3,156

http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Specifications/1995_Chevrolet_S10%20Pickup_7415_Retail_Excellent.aspx?SelectionHistory=7415|30166|27870|0|0|278281|true&SelectedTabIndex=1&Mileage=150000

T-stone – i believe 4,400 would be the maximum GVW, not the “curb weight” of the truck with no load or anything in the bed, its no way an S-10 would weight that much with nothing in the bed because my 98 chevy K1500 silverado Ext. Cab 4×4 Z71 is 4,100 pounds empty with no load in the bed

Q: How to replace brake pads on a Chevy S-10 pickup?
How would I replace brake pads on a Chevy S-10 pickup? Please give detailed instructions if you are going to reply. Thanks!

A: you have to take the wheel off first of all. Then you will see, bolted on to the axle, right over top the brake rotor is the brake caliper, fastened by two bolts that you remove, causing the whole caliper to come loose.next u will see two more bolts of close to the same size holding the brake slider in place.remove them.now u can remove the pads from the slider.before putting the new pads in the slider, take two c-clamps and push both plungers back as far as they go.now, put the new pads in place, bolt the slider onto the caliper, bolt the caliper to the axle mount, and put the wheel back on.

Q: Chevy S-10/w 350/w no balls?
I have a 1996 s-10 with a chevy 350 w/ a metric 200 tranny and a stock rear but it has no balls. Anyone have a idea where my problem may lie.

A: There are more than a few possibilities…..The engine needs 3 things to run…Air,fuel and spark…Lets start with air….How big is the carb,is it fairly new?The intake is next, what kind of intake do you have? Then alot of people forget the exhaust,Do you have good flow?Is there a cadilidic converter? These can plug up and kill your power…O.k next is fuel…Again we look at the condition of the carb…Is it big enough to feed the motor?Do you have proper fuel pressure from the fuel pump? Then comes spark…Do you have points or an hei set up?Has it been tuned up?New plugs cap and rotor?Spark is real important….An hei setup gives more spark and is less prone to failures….So it,s got stock gears in the rear end…What gear ratio does it have?I had 2:10 gears in my gtx when I got it…It ran good but had no real go…I changed it to a 3:55 and it really woke up….It,s a matter of checking all these things out to figure out what is wrong….Goood luck!!!!

Q: How do I seal a vaccum line in a Chevy s-10.?
My 88 Chevy s-10 blazer is making a weird hissing sound when it is idling. It idles beautifully but then when I get going it dies and wont start again without spraying the intake. I think it might be a leak in my intake because when I spray it with carb cleaner it will keep running.

A: Replacing the intake gasket is the only way to stop this leak.

Q: On a 1994 Chevy S-10 pickup truck, which fuse does the airbag use?
I need to replace the heater core in my ‘94 Chevy S-10, so I have to first take apart the dashboard. To avoid activating the airbag, the Haynes manual recommends removing the fuse, but there doesn’t appear to be a fuse specifically for the airbag. Any advice would be appreciated.

A: pull all fuses20 amps or above :O)

Q: How do I cure a hissing sound in a Chevy s-10?
My 88 Chevy s-10 blazer is making a weird hissing sound when it is idling. It idles beautifully but then when I get going it dies and wont start again without spraying the intake. I think it might be a leak in my fuel injector when I spray it with carb cleaner it will keep running.

A: Hissing sound is usually a vacuum leak, a massive vacuum leak can cause the issues your talking about. Try to pinpoint the leak by running the engine at idle and spraying carb cleaner on your vacuum lines and all around the intake manifold *dont spray inside the throttle intake like your mentioned, least not for this test*..when you hear a difference in how its running you have found your leak, a brake booster can also cause a massive vacuum leak. You may also be ready for a new fuel pump if giving it gas stalls it out.

Q: Will a chevy s 10 automatic transmission bolt up to a 1998 isuzu hombre 4.3 liter?
I have a 98 isuzu hombre that needs a transmission(automatic). Do you know how much a used one would cost if i put in myself? Also, would a transmission from a chevy s 10 fit becuase they were made by the same company i believe.

A: Yes it’s the same truck. Just make sure you buy one for the same size engine and whether it’s for a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive truck. Chevy GMC, and Isuzu Hombre are the same but have different styling. Call some auto recyclers “junk yards” and price a used trans ($150-$800)and ask if they install and how much. There’s always deals to be found if you look hard enough. I had a older Chevy Blazer 4X4 done for $750 but the first used trans was no good and they replaced it under the 30 day warranty. The GMC Safari – Chevy Astro vans use the same engine and transmission if your buying one out of the classifieds ($100-$400 no warranty) .

Q: How do you properly install a car seat into a 1989 chevy s-10 blazer?
Me and my husband owns a 1989 Chevy s-10 Blazer. I thought there was an owners manual in the glove box but can not find it. We are expecting out first child and were looking on how to install the car seat properly. Can anyone tell me how to do so or where I can find the information from the owners manual that will tell us this?

A: If you go to your locale fire company they will show you how to install it properly.

Q: Why wont the 4 wheel drive work on our Chevy S-10 pickup?
We have a 1995 Chevy S-10 pickup, Vortec V-6 engine, auto trans. When the 4 wheel button is pressed i hear the normal noise when it comes on then just a whine out of the front end. The front end does not work though.

A: the vaccume mobulator is probably stuck or froze….located on front axle..this engages the front wheels…..may need some attention. or a nite in a warm garage

Q: What kind of gas mileage does a Chevy S-10 get?
I was thinking about buying a Chevy S-10 after I get my license, and I wanted to know what kind of gas mileage they get, and any other information you can give me about them. Thank You.
Please no Chevy haters.

A: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/212698/2001_chevy_s10_pick_up_truck_review.html

gives you a close estimate

Q: How do you replace the headlight in a Chevy S-10?
How do you replace the headlight in a 1997 Chevy S-10?
I only need to change the bulb

A: pop the hood when you are looking at the head light there are two small strap looking things made of hard plastic or metal you turn it slightly (sorry can’t remember if its right or left) that then just pulls off easily if it doesn’t don’t force it you should need no tools to do this. do the same thing on the other side of the head light it then pulls forward pull the light out and change.

Q: What size gas tank does a 1997 Chevy S-10 have?
What size gas tank does a 1997 Chevy S-10 have? If you have a reliable source please list it. I need a reliable source, not just word of mouth because I am taking a long trip and need to minimize my stops. Thank you for taking time to help me!!

A: Nina on all models of the 1997 chevrolet S-10 pick-up have the same fuel tank this is a 19 gallon tank. This info comes from AllData in my dealership.Best of luck.

Q: Ok so my friend is considering buying a used 1993 Chevy S-10. Will 1993 blazer hood and fenders fit this?
This S-10 has Severe body rust. The box is being replaced. So are the rockers and cab corners. Both front Quarter panels need replacing, so if we can’t find a good set of used ones will a set off a 94′ Blazer fit this?

A: Yep, same body style.

Q: What is the most economical way to transport a 14′ Kayak using a Chevy S-10?
I need to something that I can load and unload myself and something that is not too pricey. Any advice is welcome.

A: More info would be helpful.

Do you have a cap on your chevy?

How heavey is the kayak?

I would suggest buying two foam cradles (fit to the underside of your kayak).

Then open the tailgate of your S-10 and put the kayak in the truck bed, resting on the foams.

You will also have to buy some rope or straps to strap it in.

Then, stick a red flag on the end of the kayak where it hangs off the back of your truck.

We did this when we had single kayaks and it was so easy to load and unload as the kayak was not on the top of the truck. Easy for one person to load/unload on their own.

Q: Anyone know where I can find a used pickup bed for a 1997 chevy s-10 pickup truck?
I would appreciate it seeing as how i was in a wreck and was hit from behind so now im trying to sprue my truck up again

A: I have a 62 chevy myself.

Check the junk yard. They part out cars that are deposited there, it’s good for body parts and unusual parts like exhaust manifolds.

Also, check the utility bed dealerships. They remove stock beds and install their beds. They do SOMETHING with the ones they take off, right?

Keep an eye out for ads, you never know.

Q: Can I put in a radio from a 99 malibu into a 1997 chevy s-10?
I want to change my radio for my s-10 and i used to have a chevy malibu and i have the radio. Do you think I can.. It looks like it fits… PLZ HELP me!!!

A: Many of the GM radios from about 1995 to about 2001 were the same. One of the key differences was that some came with a cooling fan in the back where others didn’t. The other difference was usually on the big SUV. They used a slide bracket on the right and left side of the radio instead of screw mounts on the front of the radio. I replaced a cassette player with a CD player with a fan. Had to cut out the plastic piece in the back of the dash for the fan to fit. Other than that I think your radios a compatible. I think the radio I got was from an S-10 and put it in a Caprice.

Q: I have a 2001 Chevy S 10, can I use diesel fuel instead of regular?
The reason I am asking is because I fill up at the station every three days, I put $20 in each time. I only drive to work and back, which is averaging to about 60 miles a day give or take. I want to know if I can convert vegetable oil and make it like diesel fuel so that I save money on gas. Is it possible for my car?

A: i have seen the effects of using diesel in a gas engine on 2 cars at the toyota dealer i worked at, as said black smoke out of the exhaust (a lot) 0 power, and could ruin you fuel/emission system.

to fix it, the tank had to be taken out and the diesel had to be taken out, they most likely flushed out the fuel lines and possibly replaced the fuel pump but not sure i didnt see the tech do that i was busy working on my own car.

The GMC Safari – Chevy Astro vans use the same engine and transmission if your buying one out of the classifieds ($100-$400 no warranty) .

Q: can i use a chevy s-10 frame on a vw to make it a v8?

A: Im going to say yes, if you have the tools and welding skills to shorten the chassis to the vw wheel base. A Beetle ? interesting.

Q: can i use a chevy s-10 frame on a ve to make it a v8?

A: You are going to run into some major issues as far as the motor mounts go and the length front to rear.Best of luck.

Q: Does anyone have a 1996 Chevy S-10 Pickup?
I have a used S-10 and want to know if the interior lights are supposed to come on when the door is opened?

A: I do, and yes they should. And if the key is fully in the ignition, that annoying buzzing noise…

Q: Do I have to put Dex-cool in a 2000 Chevy S-10, 2.2 ltr , manual trans ?
Getting ready to replace radiator, water pump, Thermosat and hoses. No longer under warranty, do I have to use Dex-Cool or is it ok to switch to a regular extended life antifreeze?

A: No, use the dex cool, (orange) it is made for that specific application, do not change it out or you will have problems with the heads and gaskets. It has dex cool in it for a reason. Never mix the two either.

Q: 2001 chevy blazer S-10, can you install a higher speed rear end in it and get better gas mileage. ?
2001 S-10 chevy blazer, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive. I never use the 1st gear because of the gear ratio is way to low, can I install a high speed rear end and increase my mileage and if so roughly how much increase would be allowed.

A: Potentially you can increase your MPG with a “taller” rear axel ratio.
You could replace a 3.0 gear with a 2.50 gear set. This would mean that, at highway speeds, the engine would be rurning 2500 RPMs instead of 3000 RPMs. This should save fuel.
But if you plan on carrying heavy cargo, this will work against you. The engine would be operating below it’s peak horepower, so the Engine Control Module will widen the fuel injector pulse to try to get some more power at the low RPMs. this uses more gas. If the engine has to lug all the time, this will put additional wear on the engine.
Plus, you will need to spend probably $500 to buy and install the new gears.$500 will buy a lot of gas.

Q: 95 chevy S-10 SS, When i use my turn signal my hazards turn on why?
I have a 95 Chevrolet S-10 SS- I recent purchased it and didn’t notice the problem before hand, When I turn on my head lights my right blinker doesnt work? but it does with my headlights off? and when i use any turn signal my hazards flash? Whats going on do i have some serious wiring problems to figure out?

A: Your trouble is in the turn signal switch. It is behind the steering wheel. If you have a air bag in the steering wheel ? You will need the proper person to repair it.
About two hours labor.

Q: Chevy S-10. What is the number, or model of a rear axle? year 2000.?
I have to buy a new axle for my chevy s-10. Does anybody know what is the model, or series number on your own chevy s-10 pick up truck. I have looked and scraped where the number is supposed to be, but is not vissible. There is no plate either. If you have that info or link to look it up, can you share it with me?. I will be very grateful to you guys. Thank you. Mine sweals, and vivrates. The faster the speed the louder the noise. I have lifted the truck and i have noticed that only the driver side wheel has traction. the other comes and goes. I think it needs replacement. Or do you guys think I can get the gears replaced? I think the ratio is 7 3/8, with ten bolts. Has anyone used a different axle in a 2000 chevy s-10?

A: You may want to check this site out

Q: I need to replace the door pins on my ‘98 Chevy S-10. How do I know which size of pin to use?
I went to the local parts store and there were about a dozen or so sizes to choose from from. How do I know which size is the right size for my truck?

A: To my knowledge there is only one size for that vehicle, but the best thing would be to take the old one in for comparison

Q: 2001 Chevy S-10 Gas Millage?
There is a 2001 Chevy S-10 for sale for an awesome price but I am worried about the gas millage. I have researched it and read reviews and most are showing 20+ gas millage for city and around 28 highway. Lowest for city is around 18.

However, a couple reviews complain about getting only 10 mpg. If I can remember correctly, these were both crew cab trims. Do the crew cabs get only like 10 mpg while the regular and extended cab / bed trims get the 20+?
I actually don’t know much about the truck. I haven’t looked at it yet but I was told about it and my friend is hooking me up with a family member of his who just wants to get rid of it cause he bought a bigger truck. I was just told today but need a car soon so I’m doing all my research now. It will probably be the v6.

A: this is most pivital on which engine is in the vehichle. most s 10’s get about 15mpg. the 4.3 liter engine can be a gas hog alot like the jeep 4.0 high out put

Q: 1999 Chevy S-10 short bed pickup – what problems are they rumored to have?
My neighbor has one for sale and it appears to be in excellent shape.
Is there anything specific I should check out with an S-10?
Also, it has 3,800 miles – not a typo – 3,800 miles.
Blue book is around $3400ish, very possibly higher, what should I offer him?
Blue book tends to be on the high end of the price ranges, right?
He’s an older fellow who only moves it every few days to avoid getting parking tickets so it likely hasn’t been driven hard in its short life.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A: Nothing is wrong with it. But, in the long run, intake manifold gaskets, idler arm, pitarm and outer/inner tie rods go out on them. Wheel bearings, fuel pumps….and speaking of fuel pumps, the vehicle is 10 years old and is barely driven, i’d would have the fuel filter replaced. Gasoline gums up after about a year or so. Also causes the pump to sieze up and clogs injectors.

I had a customer in the shop a weeks ago, she’s a regular customer. She drives a chevy cavalier but barely drives it, i believe its a 2002 or 2003. Last year i replaced the fuel pump, pump siezed. Few weeks ago, had to replace it again along with the fuel filter, completely clogged, later on that day, removed all injectors, and 2 of the 4 injectors were completely clogged. So its always good to drive the vehicle or atleast put some kind of additive in the gasoline to prevent it from damaging other components.

Q: Minor Vehicle Ownership In Kentucky?
My dad bought me my first car after I got my license and my hobby, well more my passion is just to get “technical” with things. Right now all I’ve done has been sitting on the sidelines handing my dad wrenchs. He gets very upset when I try to work on it.
Anyway the car I have is built on the same plat-form that the Chevy S-10’s are. Which oddly enough the is a near same year S-10 for sale for 800 dollars. I want this truck just so I can tinker with and not worry about spending all my money on. I want to step-notch the frame and slam it, do a little body work, but my dad gets mad to the point we about fight because I have a car. I can’t touch anything but the steering wheel and gas pedal.
All I want to do is buy the truck and work on it at home. I don’t need insurance on the truck because I won’t be driving it anytime soon. I just want the title, in my name, because I can’t get a co-signer. I don’t think I should need one. Any opinions?

A: If you’re a minor and you aren’t emancipated, you can’t own property in your own name. Period. Either try to convince him to let you experiment a little (perhaps by assuring him that you will be safe and know what you’re doing) or wait till you turn 18 and then you can buy a car of your own.

Q: Does anyone out there have a used Brake Buddy system for towing purposes for sale?
Would like to know if anyone has a used one for sale. Any ex-RVer’s know what I am talking about. Also looking for a driveshaft disconnect coupling for a 2001 Chevy S-10 4X4.

A: no

Q: I have a truck for sale, no takers, you know anyone who wants to buy?
Its a 1996 chevy s-10. The a/c doesnt work(needs new compressor) I think its needs a new starter. Has 177,000 mile son it but the engine was rebuilt at 55,000 so actually only 122,000 on this engine. Little rust. Kelly blue book has it listed at 2500. Anyone need a reliable truck?
Central Ohio

A: put it on
it will sell if price is right

Q: What are the best trucks to buy for under $5k with less than 100,000 miles?
I’m also looking for a 4 cylinder w/auto and in good condition. I’m in Las Vegas, NV and I’m wondering if anyone has any of these models up for sale within CA,NV,UT or AZ that is a private seller or party.

Ford Ranger
Chevy S-10
Nissan Frontier
Toyota Tacoma

Q: all terrain tires for my truck?
im looking for some good used or new all terrain tires for my 89 chevy blazer s-10… im really mad cause i went mudding on some street tires and got stuck up to my doors in mud… the specs on my tires are
P235/75R/15… i know the last two numbers matter but i want wider tires like about 235 to 265.. if anyone know where i can get any or has some for sale hit me up at 770 -757 -4382…. if you call ask for troy

A: You can probably fit 31 inch tires on this vehicle but they may rub and or decrease the area between the tire and the fender well. You can try 30.9″ tires or just get 235/75/15 mud tires. Give tirerack a try. Best of luck.

Q: What should I do about my Chevy S-10 truck? I am not sure if the transmission went out or not.?
This morning I was driving my 1999 Chevy S-10 pickup and I stopped for a red light. After stopping I put my foot on the gas and the vehicle would not go forward. I tried drive, reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The vehicle would not engage in any gear. When I got out of the truck the entire road was covered in transmission fluid. Where do I begin? Does this mean the transmission went out? Could it just be a busted line?

A: first things first check all ur lines seals and the tranny for any cracks busted lines ,or seals usually if a tranny goes u will feel it slippin or shifting hard or many other anoying things but from what u siad i don’t think u damaged it but be on the safe side if it is something simple still have it checked out a couple hundred is better than a couple thousand. good luck

Q: 2000 chevy S-10 truck ran perfect until I had my oil changed?
2000 chevy S-10 truck ran perfect until I had my oil changed last week come to find out they put 5W30 oil in it and I had been using 10W40 now my oil pressure is around 20 psi even when I go down the highway at 60 miles per hour what could have happen in 2 days since the oil change and what can I do to fix it?

A: 5w30 oil is thinner and will lubricate faster chances r u did no motor damage change to right oil then see what happens

Q: What is wrong with Chevy S 10 truck there are no signal lights?
My husband put in a flasher and replaced the fuses, the bulbs are all good. The tail lights work, he just can’t fiqure it out!

A: If the fuses did not blow out after you replaced it and the bulbs are new, then it’s most likely the turn signal switch.

Q: help on a 1998 chevy s 10 truck good battery but will not start tried jump start also any suggestions?

A: check your connections real good, they may be loose or dirty ,you also may have a bad starter on it,starters will go bad instantly and without warning,so this might be something you want to check if it don’t try to crank over at all, good luck on it.

Q: Does Chevy still manufacturer parts for a Chevy S-10 Pickup truck?
I know that the Chevy S-10 pickup truck was discontinued in 2004, but I was wondering if Chevy still makes parts for it.

A: yes but you have to go to the dealer or call them to ask for the parts!

Q: I went to start my truck (chevy s-10) then put in drive and would not go forward or reverse?
When I started the truck it sounded like something was loose and hitting another part. Then I went to put it in drive and the truck would not go forward or reverse.
It will shift but it doesn’t feel like it is catching a gear. No jerk when shifting in gear like normal.

A: sounds like you lose your bolts to the converter from the fly wheel

Q: On a 1994 Chevy S-10 pickup truck, which fuse does the airbag use?
I need to replace the heater core in my ‘94 Chevy S-10, so I have to first take apart the dashboard. To avoid activating the airbag, the Haynes manual recommends removing the fuse, but there doesn’t appear to be a fuse specifically for the airbag. Any advice would be appreciated.

A: pull all fuses20 amps or above :O)

Q: How do you repair the emergency brake release on a 1991 Chevy S-10 pickup truck?
There is a cog inside the truck that the brakes touch and it goes “click-click-click” but its not, how do you replace that cog?
There is a cog inside the truck that the brakes touch and it goes “click-click-click” but its not locking, how do you replace/repair said cog?
Thanks to Mr. T I now know that it might not be the cog, but how would I go about repairing the spring then?

A: Don’t think you have to replace the cog. Check that the spring is attached. May be broken or has dislodged.

»»»

Additional:

Remove the parking brake assemble & inspect. If you can not find the location of the spring, you may want to purchase a Chilton’s or Haynes Service Manual.

Q: How do I change the ignition coil pack on a 99 Chevy S-10 truck?
Have a Hanes manual and it’s not helping…following the spark plug wires and still can’t locate the old one…anyone have any suggestions or places on the web that can help me out?
Autozone was the one who told us to follow the spark plug wires AND sold us the wrong pack… Also, 2.2 engines don’t have a distributor…

A: Go to Autozone.com it tells you everything with pics and prices for new parts.

Q: how do you change a starter on a 2000 s-10 chevy truck?

A: if its a 4×4 4.3 you need to drop the exhaust by the starter. dont remove it just seperate it

Q: Why does my 1985 Chevy S-10 pickup truck shut down while driving down the road?
Changed fuel pump, fuel relay, computer, module in distributor, gas cap, and it still shuts down while driving down the road. If I let it sit for a while, it will start back up only to do it again in a short distance!

A: The carburetor needs to be rebuilt with a new float and new accelerator pump plunger. When the float sinks fuel spills into the intake manifold creating a rich condition and the engine will stall.
All cracked and leaking vacuum lines should be repaired or replaced.

Q: How do you reset the service engine light on a 2000 chevy s-10 pickup truck?
We just replaced the alternator and the light will not shut off.

A: The lights not on because of the alternator. Get the code out of the system and fix the problem, the light will go off by itself after the “drive cycle” for whatever problem is present runs.

Bottom line fix it.

Q: s-10 chevy truck heater core installation?
Non A/C S-10, installing heater core and just wanted easiest way to do it. Pull steering column? Just any hints…

A: Year model??????????

Q: my chevy s-10 pickup truck looses power sometimes i turn off the key then on again and the power comes back ?
my gas gauge dosent work also it moves up and down?

A: fuel gauge and fuel pump are part of same unit…check pump relay….wireing,,,just hope u dont need pump/gauge sending unit…part is 300 dollars and u need to drop tank or remove/move bed to get at it…i use my odometer bcause im too cheap to fix mine

Q: Is there a fuel pump gasket on a 97 Chevy S-10 truck?

A: no the only gasket will be around the top of the sending unit where the unit goes in to the tank ,no gaskets on the pump though, good luck.

Q: What is the difference between fuel sending units for the engine VIN z and w on a 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer?
I have a 1993 S-10 Blazer 4.3L V6 Vortex and was wondering if theres a difference between the two.

A: w is computer controlled which trigger check engine light and displays code for that sensor vin z will display code for fuel system failure

Q: What relay controls the wiper on a 1993 Chevy S-10 pickup?
I have a 1993 Chevy S-10 Pickup (2wd) and the wipers won’t park and they only have one speed. Replacing the wiper motor didn’t fix the problem and the fuse is okay. I’ve been told that the relay would be the problem, but I can’t find a relay that works specifically for the wipers? Does anyone know if there is a wiper relay and if so, where is it located?
The wiper motor was purchased from AutoZone. I guess it’s technically refurbished, but not from a junk yard.
Sorry guys, I forgot to mention that the switch has been replaced as well. That didn’t take care of it.

A: There is no wiper relay on that vehicle. Assuming you have replaced the wiper motor and switch with good parts and have replaced the control module (cover on the motor) if it has one, all you have left to cause this is a wiring problem. You’ll need a schematic for your wiper system and a test light or multimeter. Check each circuit for continuity.

Q: I have a 1993 Chevy S-10 pick up. It sounds like I have a hole in the exhaust but guy at midas says no?
It only makes the noise for the most part when in drive or reverse and idling. When in Neutral or Park no noise. Also it seems to be running a bit sluggish. Any advice?

A: Sounds like an exhaust leak, but have you looked at the manifolds? It might be leaking there.

Q: where can i find a shell for a 1993 chevy S-10 Blazer 2 door?
ANY advice would help, the one i have is rotting off the frame.
has a 4.3 vortec motor.

A: did u try e-bay?

Q: What is the CFI @ 0 static preasure on a stock clutch fan on an 1993 chevy s 10 blazer 4×4 with ac?

A: Do you mean cfm? and why do you think you need to know this? The air flow will change with rpm.Hold a pitot tube behind the fan and get a number yourself.

Q: i got a 1993 chevy s-10?
i got a 1993 chevy s-10 with the 2.8 v6 and 5 speed 2 wheel drive i would like to now what kind of transmission is it if it a t5 or what it is

A: According to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_S-10

It should be a T5

Q: I was wondering if anyone had any idea how much money I could get for a 1993 Chevy S-10 pick up truck.?
The truck has some rust on the sides but it still has under 60,000 miles. I was given some offers from friends, but I’m pretty sure I could get more because of the mileage. Let me know if you have any ideas because I don’t even know where to start.

A: Check Ebay Motors. See what other similar trucks are going for. If there are no S-10, check for the GMC S-15, their the same thing. I wouldn’t hope for much, the S-10 wasn’t ever a high dollar reseller

Q: i have a 1993 chevy s-10 with a 2.8l motor..will not start after driving a short distance?
i can start in fine the first time but after i drive and the motor gets hot it will not crank..i can get it to crank if i spray starting fluid in the throttle body…any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks, bryan

A: I thought Dogeman was the expert. The ignition module controls the spark and injector on your vehicle. You have a problem with the fuel system, not the module. If you can start the car with starting fluid( which bypasses the fuel pump) and it starts, that means the car has spark. Whena module fails, it kills the injector and the spark of the car, so if it was bad, it still wouldn’t start with starting fluid either. Do yourself a favor, pay for a proper diagnosis from a ASE certified tech and have it fixed right the 1st time. Good luck

Q: 1993 chevy s-10 clutch problems?
I have a 1993 chevy s10 pickup 2.8 v6 that im having clutch problems with. it does not want to go in gear. I have put a new clutch master cylinder, new clutch slave cylinder, and bleed it and still it doesnt want to go into gear.i know for sure it isnt the clutch because when it is off, and in first gear, i try turning it on and it wants to run off so it is grabbing. Have any ideas?????

A: If sure pressure plate is good, and throw out bearing is engaging on the fingers of pressure plate, then air is trapped in hydraulic line, some system are hard to bleed.Vacuum bleed, pressure bleed…..keep bleeding until have good clutch pedal.

Q: every time i start my 1993 chevy s-10 it blows blue smoke……why??????

A: Blue smoke is a classic sign of burning oil. If it only at start up it is usually a sign of worn valve guides.
Do a wet/dry compression test to check your ring condition.

Q: 1993 chevy s-10 fuel problems?
when my1993 s-10 warms up and i cut it off it will not start back..for some reason the fuel is not pumping when it is warm…it will not cut off riding down the road..only when trying to restart when warm do i have a problem……i have replaced the fuel pump, the complete throttle body, mapp sensor, pick-up coil, ignition coil, all fuel filters temperature sensor and various others…any ideas would be greatly appreciated..ps…i was going to change oth the ecm or ecu next…could this be the problem

A: You didn’t say what engine and fuel system you have. It would also help to know what you mean by the fuel not pumping. Have you checked the fuel pressure with a guage while cranking especially when it will not start. I think you need to start over in your diagnosis. Get the truck in the no start condition and find out what you have and do not have.
You need fuel at the correct pressure, spark at the proper time and strong enough, and compression. For instance: if you have a 4.3 Liter engine with CFI injection you will need at least 55 psi fuel pressure durng cranking or you will not start. If yours is TBI injected you must achieve 13 psi or you will have start problems.

Q: 1993 chevy s-10 blazer obd code 32 egr valve?
gave me a 32 obd code. did not want to idle or accelerate very rough idle. then went away like it never happened. now after 4 days its back and now wont even start. is it egr valve or map sensor and how can i check the COMPONENTS individually, also thought if it failed it failed once and never worked again? please help i never seen anything like this

A: The EGR valve gets a piece of carbon stuck in it and the engine will lose all vacuum and set the 32 code because the computer expects to see the EGR valve at 0%.The best thing to do is remove the upper intake manifold, get an old piece of speedometer cable(about 15 inches),put it in a drill, stick it down in the egr ports to spin around a few seconds to knock the carbon loose. The upper half can be cleaned with a screwdriver just around the holes.Clean the EGR holes with a small screwdriver and lubricate the pintle shaft with some penetrating fluid.Work the pintle up and down with the fluid on it.Put it all back together.Put some Chevron Techron in your gas tank.It will loosen up the rest of the carbon in the intake. The EGR will get stuck more till all the carbon is worked out.To start the engine, put the throttle on the floor and crank the engine. It has to overcome the vacuum loss and will eventually start. If it won’t start you’ll have to remove the egr and get the carbon out first.

Q: 1993 Chevy S-10 Pickup, 4.3 motor, 174,000 miles, stock oil pressure gauge reads 20 lbs. with fresh oil change
Running 5w-30 now, only had truck for 3,000 miles and oil pressure gauge has always fluctuated…..either sticks at 40 or gets pinned to top with acceleration. Now changed to thinner oil, pressure gauge reads 20 lbs, just barely, and rises to 40 lbs. when accelorating. Is the gauge messed up? Perhaps the oil pump is weak or on its way out? How tough is it to change the oil pump? Truck runs great otherwise. Thanks in advance.

A: I like how people always suggest to “dump” a vehicle instead of giving you an answer. If you wanted to dump it you wouldn’t be here asking how to fix it. And you probably bought it because you like it and it was what you could afford.

At any rate let me try to help you. First off it sounds like either your gage or the oil pressure sending unit is malfunctioning. You could replace the oil pressure sending unit and see if that corrects the problem. However this is not an easy task on the 4.3 liter. It is in the very back of the engine and very difficult to get something on it to change it. They do make an oil pressure sending unit socket to make it easier to change one.

Now let’s say the oil pressure reading is 20 psi at idle and rises to 40 on acceleration. I wouldn’t call this a terrible reading if it was accurate. I looked at the specification on AllData and their minimum specification is 24 PSI at 4000 rpm. And 18 PSI at 2000 rpm.

I would have to agree with them. As long as you have good flow then 20 PSI at idle and 40 on acceleration is not all that bad.

Enjoy your truck. I like S10 pickups

Q: will a 3.1 or 3.4 liter chevy engine connect to to a transmission from a 2.8 liter engine in a 1993 chevy s-10

A: it should, but the 3.1 and 3.4 are front wheel drive engines you s-10 is rear wheel drive

Q: How do you change a heater core in a 1992 chevy s-10?

A: http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c152800bf4be

This site may help…..with a/c or without?

Q: Where does the “spider injectors/valve” go on a 1992 Chevy blazer s-10?
I have a 1992 Chevy blazer s-10 that the spider valve is shot on. i was wondering the location of the part and how hard it is to install a website address with good pics will guarantee a best answer rating
Extra info: it is a V-6 Vortec automatic optional 4 wheel drive

A: They are located in the intake plenum. The plug for the system is located just behind the throttle body. You will need to remove everything on top of the intake plenum and the plenum itself. It isn’t really a hard job, just time consuming.

Replace the fuel injector and the spider tubes.

Q: If I install a throttle body spacer on my 1992 Chevy S-10, will my hood have enough clearance to close?
1992 Chevy S-10 P/U Regular Cab/ 4.3 Liter Automatic 700R transmission.

A: How big is the spacer? Like was said before….place a cubed cardboard piece on top of your air cleaner and see if it gets crushed when you close the hood. If the spacer is not too drastic, you shouldn’t have a problem.

Q: 1992 chevy S-10 not sending heat to vents and its not debri can any one help?

A: Assuming your heater coil is good Its probably your vacuum switch.Look for a skinny black plastic line coming out of your firewall. If its come undone it will cause your controls not to switch from defrost to the floor or middle position like it should.Your heater and air controls are all powered by engine vacuum.

Q: How do you change a heater core in a chevy 1992 s-10? PLEASE HELP!?

A: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/04/f4/ad/0900823d8004f4ad/repairInfoPages.htm Hope this info helps you change your heater core.Best of luck.

Q: 1992 Chevy s-10 not getting fire to the spark plugs?
put new sparkplugs in and still won’t start? Any ideas on what the problem could be?

A: how do you know the plugs arent firing?
your distributor has a pick up coil and a module under the cap. check those two.
Check to see all your connections to distributor are tight.
Check the coil too

Q: Any differences between a 1992 S-10 and a 1992 GMC Sanoma?
My brother has a 1992 Chevy S-10 pickup and he believes it doesn’t have near the power that his friends 1992 GMC Sanoma has. Both trucks have the same 4.3 liter V-6. He claims neither has the Vortech V-6. Maybe the Sanoma is geared lower and that’s why it gets out of the hole better? If there’s any GM truck geniuses out there please let me know about any powertrain differences. Thanx!

A: The Engines are identical, 4.3L TBI Vortec V-6. If they are both automatics then the transmissions are also identical. If the are both manual transmissions, the same applies. It is possible however that they have different gear ratios. You can check the spid labels in the glove boxes to compare the rpo codes, look for codes that begin with G such as GT4 or GU6, if they have different G codes then they have different gear ratios, if they have the same G codes than your brother’s truck may have issues if indeed it has less of a “holeshot”. Good luck.

Q: 1992 Chevy S-10 turns over but won’t start?
I’m driving a 1992 Chevy S-10 4.3L V6 that belongs to my dad. It’s started cutting off on me while I’m driving it. At first I thought it was a loose spark plug wire on the distributor end, but I realize now that isn’t it. Like I said it turns over, but it won’t start. I pretty sure it’s an electrical problem, because I can smell gas afer I try to crank it a few times. I’m not where to start though, I don’t know if it’s the spark plugs or wires because my dad’s not sure when the last time was he replaced them, the only time he ever drove it was a trip or two on the weekend every now and then. Other than that I figure it could be the coil pack or something with the distributor. Like I said though, I’m not sure where to start because I really don’t know that much about cars. Any advice? Thanks.

A: With most conventional motor there are 3 things that it needs to run, 1 fuel which you said you have. 2 spark, to test this get a spark plug put it in the end of the lead and test each lead and have someone turn the motor over, if all of them work you need to test each spark plug, 3 the timing, the timing is something that you should consult mechanic or a repair book to inspect or repair, depending on the type of motor in your car eg, overhead cams, E.F.I, EVCT and ect. it could be a crank angle sensor, a blown fuse or as you said coil pack

Q: what cost should I expect to replace front steering parts on my 1992 chevy s-10 blazer?
tie rods, upper and lower ball joints etc

A: 600$ for parts and labor.

Q: how much horsepower does a stock 1992 chevy s-10 have?
i am getting ready to put a new cam in and i want to increase the horsepower as much as possible. i just need to know where i am starting at

A: If your asking about the 1992 S-10 Pick-up there are two different engines used.First the 2.5 liter I4 engine with 105 HP and 135 lbs of torque.Second the 4.3 liter V-6 with 160 HP and 235 lbs of torque Best of luck..

Q: how hard is it to change an idler arm on a 1992 chevy s-10 blazer?
and where is it located

A: It’s not hard if you have all the right tools. You are going to have to have it aligned after it is changed, though, so why not just let the front end shop put it on before they align it, and you won’t have to buy tools you won’t ever need again. You would be money ahead to let someone else do it.

If you still feel you should do it yourself, get yourself a Chilton’s or Haynes manual for your car. They are available at most parts stores, and are only about $10. It will walk you through the procedure, step by step. It will also help in the future with any other repairs you want to tackle.

Q: 1992 Chevy S-10 engine (Plugs)?
Does a 1992 Chevy S10 2.5L 4 cylinder 5-speed manual have a distributor cap or coil pack?

A: The 2.5L four-tech is a distributored engine with a cap and rotor, and a remote ignition coil.
Hope this helps. Christopher
A 2.2L is direct ignition/coil pack.

Q: 1992 Chevy S-10 won’t start?
The truck battery is fully charged and when you turn the key you can hear starter click once, but then nothing, can push start and will run fine until you turn it off and then same thing happens, gauges say that the battery is charging when i push started it

A: You have a classic case of buying a POS chevy. your going to need to sell it and buy a ford maybe a ranger

Q: 1992 chevy s-10 blazer 4.3 liter 2wd v6?
what fuel pump do i need for this blazer. when i shut off the key it activates the pump, fuel comes into line above airbox, covers up central injector. I need the specs for both the VIN letter vehicles W and Z. any help will be greatly appreciated.

A: If your fuel pump turns on with the key off… you have more then a fuel pump issue. Go to a mechanic to get the wiring checked out.
Do you hear the pump?
The lines are always under pressure… and this should have nothing to do with the fact of having Central Port Injection. I need more details in your question for a more accurate diagnosis.

If you ask a mechanic at the dealership nicely (Bring Coffee’s) They will most likely help you out and give you a schematic.

Q: Chevy S-10 Blazer 1992. The A/C fan quit. What should I do?
I replaced both of the switches, I have checked the fuses (all good) I’ve tested the wires and the one going from the fan to relay was good. And from the relay to the switch is good. What else can be wrong?
It’s got an almost brand new engine in it and it’s paid for, I’m not pushing it in a ditch!

A: Roll down the window fast!!

Sorry, sis, that’s the best I can do.:)

Q: How can I identify the Borg Warner T-5 Transmission to fit my 1989 Chevy S-10 Blazer?
I need to find a transmission for my 1989 Chevy Blazer S-10. It is a Borg Warner T-5 5 speed. Will one from a Camaro fit? What is the serial number?

A: I have the T-5 in my 1983 Camaro Sport Coup.
My engine is the 5-liter V-8 305 cubic inch.

I remember once at Jiffy Lube they did something that disabled the car (of course this was on a Friday afternoon) and it had to be towed to a dealer and I didn’t get it back until the following Tuesday.
During the service, they removed what they thought was a transmission filler plug on top of the tranny but it turned out to release the “reverse pin” or something like that and it had to be reset by the dealer.
This probably doesn’t help answer your question but I thought I’d tell the story anyway.

Here’s some info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warner_T-5
http://www.5speeds.com/t5/

http://www.flatheadv8.org/t5-swap.htm

Q: Does my transmission on my 1987 Chevy S-10 Blazer come with or without an auxilary valve body or not?
I need to get another auto, transmission for my 87 S-10 Blazer but I cannot figure out if I need the one with or without a auxilary valve body or not. My Vin# is 1GNCT18R7H8227929. Any suggestions on how I can figure this out would be great. Besides pulling it apart.

A: You can call your vin # into a gm dealership and have them look it up. They can tell you anything you need to know about your vehicle.

Q: i have a 1988 chevy s-10 blazer with a 350 eng the trans(700r4) does not shift to overdrive?
i have a 1988 chevy s-10 blazer with a 350 eng the trans(700r4) does not shift to overdrive, what can be the problem.

A: I own a shop, and have built many transmissions in my time. Do you mean it shifts 1-2-3 and not 4, or do you mean it shifts 1-2-3-4, and then no lock-up? In the case of this transmission lock-up is considered overdrive. Check this first: Look to see if you have brake lights. The lock-up is wired through the brake light switch, so when you let off the brake it sends power to the TCC solenoid. You will want to make sure the power is going through the brake light switch and on down to the transmission. If so, and you have power to the lock-up circuit, then you probably have a bad, or stuck solenoid for the (transmission clutch converter) TCC. You can use a 9 volt battery to power up the lock-up solenoid to test it with, and you should hear it click when you apply power & ground to the circuit. You may have to pull the pan, and install a new solenoid if this one is dead. Another thing that comes to mind is; The TV cable that runs from the throttle down to the transmission may be out of adjustment, or the piston it works is sticking. Many times you can resolve a lot of issues with these transmissions by changing the fluid & filter, and add some stuff called “Lube-Guard” (in the white bottle) to the tranny. You can get this stuff at Advance Auto Parts. Don’t settle for some stuff they say “is just as good”, because it really isn’t. Don’t mess with the adjustment on the TV cable, unless you are sure it’s the problem. If it just started doing it, then you need to check this cable to make sure its working right. Open the throttle wide open, and see if you can pull any more on this cable, as you should be able to pull just a little. If you take the pan off, then set the cable this way; with a buddy pushing the gas pedal all the way to the floor, look at the valve in the valvebody it works to first make sure it is working, not sticking, and that it is flush with the edge of the valvebody with the gas pedal all the way down. If this hasn’t found your problem, then suspect the throttle position sensor is bad, or the speed sensor (if it has one) in the tail housing, and in the transfer case if its 4×4. One other thing to look at is the governor. It may be sticking, and not giving you 4th gear, if so it will have to come out to be cleaned if it doesn’t shift right after you have checked all of this other stuff. The TV cable controls the line pressure, and it may not have enough to make it shift. The govorner controls when the shifts take place, and if its sticking it won’t have one, or two of the gears. Lock-up or overdrive is controlled by the computer sending ground to the TCC when the line pressure reaches so much, and the throttle position sensor sends information to the computer along with the speed sensor to control when this ground is sent to activate the solenoid. Pretty confussing I know. One other thing is this; you could have a bad temprature sensor causing the whole mess. If the computer doesn’t know the engine has reached 100 degrees it doesn’t come out of closed loop, and you won’t have overdrive, so I have seen a stuck thermostat do this, and/or a bad temprature sensor. If it just started doing this since the weather changed back to cold, then I would take a long hard look at the temprature sensor, and the thermostat. You need at least a 190 degree thermostat in order for it to reach the proper operating temprature anyway.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

Q: How to remove fuel pump from 1997 Chevy Blazer, S-10?
I need to remove the fuel pump ,but I cannot get the gas tank to drop. Any suggestions?

A: Be sure the fuel filler and vent connecting hoses are LOOSE on the fuel tank nozzles before attempting to slide the tank down.
Even then it usually requires a coupla shots of PBlaster and the use of screwdrivers/pry bars to persuade the hoses to just give up and let go.

You might find it helpful to have a floor jack positioned several inches below the tank to catch the tank after successfully prying the hoses loose. The fun part is trying to keep that piece of plywood on top of the jack…

A: They are located in the intake plenum. The plug for the system is located just behind the throttle body. You will need to remove everything on top of the intake plenum and the plenum itself. It isn’t really a hard job, just time consuming.

Replace the fuel injector and the spider tubes.

Q: Reset switch for the fuel pump on a 96 s-10 chevy blazer?
Does anyone know if there is one and where is it located? Thanks

A: It doesnt have one sorry

Q: How do you wire a starter button on a 91 Chevy S-10 blazer?
I want add a starter button and I’m not sure what wire to use on the starter.

A: Use the purple wire on the starter. Trace it into the car and watch for it to become possibly a yellow wire between starter and nuet safety or ign switch.

Q: So I have heard that Chevy Blazer,S-10,or anything what that have to do what S-10 is garbage?
So does that mean GM’s 4.3 Liter engine is garbage and the SUV’s or Van’s (Oldsmobile Bravada,GMC Jimmy,GMC Safari,Chevy Astro) with the 4.3 Liter engine are garbage to? Also is that true about Chevy Blazer and S-10 and which one of these SUV’s or Van’s are best with the 4.3 Liter engine in it?

A: I have heard the same thing but I have know a few people to own them and they seem to ever had any major problems with them and I would go with a GMC Jimmy

Q: How do I get a new oil dipstick into an 89 chevy s-10 blazer?
I have removed the starter but the dipstick is made of steel and the hole is very small and I do not want to break the new one. It’s like I can’t even get it started.
Do I use a small torch to heat the steel of the block?
I don’t want to break or warp anything.
Help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!

A: I would take it to a mechanic. A small torch would work, but you might mess something up!

Q: 95 chevy s-10 blazer 4 wheel drive wont engage?
I have a 95 chevy s-10 blazer four door with a 4.3 vortec. When I try to engage the four wheel drive the button lights up but it does not engage. It still makes the click sound when you push the button like it is engaging but never does.

A: the transfer case is the click noise you hear and probably is engauging but your front axle actuator isn’t. most common problem is a vacuum switch on the transfercase that when shifted into 4X4 pushes on a switch that supplies vacuum to a vacuum diaphram that pulls on a cable attached to the front axle shift fork and locks the front axle. its called the transfercase vacuum switch, costs about $10, and is located on the upper left side of the transfercase. unplug the 3 vacuum hose connector and unscrew it, i think you need a 7/8″ wrench. good luck thats the easiest and cheapest place to start

Q: What are the factory speakers in a 2000 chevy blazer s-10 2 door?

A: Size? Shape? Brand? Wattage? Ohms? What?

Q: How many gallons of gas does a 1985 Chevy S-10 Blazer hold?
Manual transmission
It is a 2 door model. I know it is NOT more than 16 gallons…

A: The fuel tank size on the 1985 chevy blazer is 20 gallons this is the 4 door models. The 2 door blazers fuel tank is a 13.2 gallon tank.Hope this info helps.Best of luck.

Q: Does anyone have a 1996 Chevy S-10 Pickup?
I have a used S-10 and want to know if the interior lights are supposed to come on when the door is opened?

A: I do, and yes they should. And if the key is fully in the ignition, that annoying buzzing noise…

Q: Over drive question on a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup?
My question is on a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup is does it have an overdrive in it on the transmission? It has a 2.2 L 4 cyc engine in it with an automatic transimisson. It has the letter D 3 2 1 on the gear shift gage. The letter D does not have a circle around it like most of them do if it does have over drive on it. But is the letter D for overdrive and the number 3 for regular drive for city use?

A: Randy, Your S-10 certainly does have an overdrive. Prove it to yourself on a highway where you can go the speed limit. Tuck in “Drive three” and notice the tachometer the rpm’s will increase. Now slide the shifter in “Drive” watch the tach. The rpm’s will drop. I leave my 4.3 S-10 in drive all the time as it has 3.73 gears and all it would otherwise do in Drive 3 is suck more gas.

Q: can you replace a 2.8 liter engine with a 4.3 liter engine and use same transmission in a chevy s-10 pickup?

A: No, the same transmission will not work. The 2.8L is a 60* engine and the 4.3L is a 90* engine like the v8’s.. The bolt pattern for the trans is diff on the 2.8L and 4.3L.

However the 4.3L does share the same trans bolt pattern as the v8 engines. So finding a trans to fit the 4.3L will be easy.. Get one from from a 4.3L or a v8

Q: Looking for bucket seats for Chevy S-10 Pickup?
Does anyone have any good resources I could use. Maybe a website.

A: Ebay has a great selection. You can narrow the search to within a certain number of miles from where you are, or pay shipping from anywhere.
Also try LKQ or another automobile recycler. They will even ship to you.

Q: Can i stack lowering blocks on my 94 chevy s10?
I have some existing lowering blocks on my chevy s-10 pickup and i was wondering if i could place new blocks on top of the old ones for a larger drop or would that be unsafe? I have never used lowering blocks before and want to drop the back as much as the front which is 5-6 inches. Thanks allot!

A: it is totally unsafe . you need to just get 5 in drop springs and a 1 inch block for the total of six inches .. however i hate drop blocks . they corrode and wear loose and can fall out . you really have to keep a eye on them. drop leaf springs run about $100. that is what i use in my s-10 projects.. i built the s-10 in my picture. and in my 450 hp small block powered s-10 .

Q: ‘99 Chevy S-10 pickup with 2.2l engine. Repairman said that my back spark plug was glued into the engine.?
My s-10 has 140,000 miles on it.

About 4 years ago, 50-60 thousand miles ago, I took my truck into a dealership for a tune up. They changed the spark pugs then. About a week ago, my truck started to run poorly and bog down at about 40mph and on.

The mechanic that is working on my truck now said on the back spark plug, he spent about 2 hours trying to take it out. It was spinning with the socket, just not pulling out. When he finally got it out, he said that both ends were almost burned off. He also said that there was some kind of compound that was holding it in. The previous person who changed my spark plugs had “glued” the spark plug into the engine. He is not sure if he will be able to put in a new spark plug.

My questions are:
What should I have the mechanic do? Fix the problem (put new heads on it) or do a quick fix (try to glue a new one back in)?

What are the chances that the new glued in one will hold up long enough to trade my truck in so it runs well at the dealership?

What kind of glue would have the first mechanic used?

Any other information or answers that I may have missed would be helpful as well!

Thanks!

A: If your mechanic has never heard of Heli-coils, then it’s time to find a new mechanic.

Q: heater problems in a 95 chevy s-10 pickup?
I’ve noticed recently (when I installed a new heater switch) that sometimes the heater will not work. I have to pop the hood and tap on the heater fan housing (on the passenger side against the firewall). usually it starts right up. recently I installed a new sony stereo head unit. I waited to install the dash kit and when i was using the unit without the dash kit the heater was working as before. Now I installed the dash kit, and the heater still works exactly as before but it cuts off in about 5-10 seconds. I can tap the housing and it comes back on but, but it still cuts back off in about 10 seconds. is it a ground or something…and what do I do to fix it? PLEASE HELP! I need my heater cuz i currently have a broken window!!! IT’S WINTER!!!!!!

A: if you tap on the housing and it start to work, replace the fan motor. the electrical parts inside the fan motor is worn out.

Q: how can i swap a chevy 2.8l v-6 carburerated engine with a same size TBI one?
I have a 1984 chevy S-10 pickup trk, 2wd, with a carburerated 2.8L V-6 (173cu in 2bbl). the engine has a severe knock. I have a good 1990 2.8 L V-6 that is thottle body injected. will it interchange without major modifications? or what will I have to do to make it work. is it possible to use the manual fuel pump? will I have to change the dampner pulley assy & water pump assy? Please advise as to what options are available.
I want to convert the tbi engine to carburerated setup using my old parts, basically just need to know if I can use the basic long block assembly from the TBI unit?

A: It can be done, but will require some work, you will need , a in-tank fuel pump setup, You will also require a different ecm and harness assy, to run the tbi unit. I have done a couple, go for it.

                                Ase Master Tech

Q: Can I use Synthetic oil in an older vehicle ?
I have a 1988 chevy S-10 pickup with a 2.8 v/6 that runs great.
I have changed the oil every 3000 miles. Can I start using Synthetic oil, and will it help ? It has 130,000 miles.

A: yes but there would be no benefit to doing so. the synthetic oil will creep past the rings due to the extra “slipperiness” of the synthetic costing more in add on oil.

Q: Question about my S-10 transmission?
I have a 1992 Chevy S-10 with a 4.3 liter motor and a 5 speed transmission. My transmission recently blew up on me and after a lot of searching I found a chevy 5 speed transmission that came from a 4.3 engine. After I bought it I then found out that it did not come from a S-10 but a full size chevy pickup so even though it may fit on my engine the end of the trans that fits onto my drive shaft is completely different and it my trans is a little bit longer then the one i purchased. My question is, is there any way that i could use the trans i purchased? Is there any adapters I could buy that would let my drive shaft hook into it or anything?

A: no way to use it with the stock 4.3 engine. take it back and get your money back

Q: 92 Chevy S-10 2.5L 4cyl?
I bought this pickup a couple years ago and when I got it home, tore it down. It had locked up because of blowing a head gasket and froze the pistons.
I took it totally apart and cooked out the block got a used head and had it and the block tested for cracks and leaks, both passed had the head shaved and worked. I went ahead and bought new pistons turned the crank and rebuilt the whole engine with new parts, cam, roller lifters and all.
Upon completion of this from the first time it started it it fired right up, but had a bump or miss to the idle. The gear shift would dolly back and forth in neutral as it idled it was prevelent, something was wrong. It compression checks good on the two outside cylinders, but varies on the two center. I can loosen and tighten the rocker studs and it will smooth out for a minute then back to the miss again.
I have changed the lifters, pumping them up first. I have tried shims under the rockers. Shaved head to low for push rod? Deck of block?
I have narrowed it down to exhaust valves staying open too long…

A: i’ve been a master ASE technician for a few years now…. i’ve addressed this problem time and again. this totally sounds like the valve timing is off. first bring it up to top dead center on number one.if you aready done this bear with me… do it again. make sure the dot on the camshaft is top dead center and the crankshaft mark is at the o position. the distributor rotor should be pointing at the number one cylinder. check this before proceding… it is very important.

Q: Did you see this??? Another crime by another ILLEGAL!!?
Illegal alien charged in vehicular homicide
Alcohol suspected in crash that killed 18-year-old

——————————————————————————–

Another illegal alien, suspected of being intoxicated, has been charged with vehicular homicide in the death of an 18-year-old Tennessee man.

Luis Oscar Garcia, 24, a Mexican who had been living in the U.S. without a green card for three years, was ordered held without bail this week on the vehicular homicide charge as well as driving under the influence.

The victim in the crash was James F. Rogers Jr. of North Jackson, Tenn.

A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 7, and it is likely Garcia, who speaks little English, will use a court-appointed attorney for his defense.

According to the Jackson Sun, Garcia’s 1995 Chevy S-10 pickup ran a red light while traveling north on the U.S. 45 Bypass at Oil Well Road about 2 a.m. Saturday. He slammed into the ‘95 Honda Civic that Rogers was driving westbound on Oil Well.

Police said Garcia had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and that his pants were soaked with a liquid that indicated the presence of alcohol. There also were two beer bottles, one partially filled, in the truck at the time of the accident, police said.

In addition to the vehicular homicide and DUI charges, Garcia faces counts of driving without a license, registration or proof of insurance. When police did a check on his license plate, it did not come back under his name, the report said.

As WND reported, illegal aliens – mostly driving unregistered and uninsured and without valid licenses – are causing mayhem on America’s highways.

While no one – in or out of government – tracks traffic accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year’s 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.

A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.

Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers.

In addition, the states with the most illegal aliens also have the most unlicensed drivers. Those states are also in the lead for the most hit-and-run accidents, according to reports issued by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System and the Pew Hispanic Center. California ranks at the top with 24.1 percent of the known 11.1 million illegal aliens.
to “sf ca” YOU are MISSING the whole point (along with the REST of the PRO crowd)!!!! Crimes commited by ILLEGALS are PREVENTABLE crimes!!! It’s like saing, “If that man hadn’t left his gun lying about, his child wouldn’t have SHOT him”!!!! GET IT??? And, just WHAT is your little survey trying to prove??? That AMERICANS outnumber ILLEGALS??? We ALREADY know that!!! So, of couse there are going to be MORE crimes committed by citizens!!!!!

A: To all of you goofballs that rebut this question with the usual “Americans commit crimes too”crap, that isn’t the point. The point is that illegal aliens shouldn’t be here in the first place.Wake the hell up and quit making excuses for these ILLEGALS.

Q: Why do the exhaust fumes from my truck smell like rotten eggs?
I have a 1992 chevy s-10 pickup. I was just wondering why my exhaust fumes smell like rotten eggs. there isnt any water in the gas, and i use the correct octane of gas. I dont think there is anything wrong with the engine, as it runs fine. i just want to know the source of this smell. Also, i did have one other question. when i start the truck, the fan always come on. the fan right behind the radiator that pulls air through it when you arent moving. it does not matter how cold it is, that fan always comes on when i start the truck. so if you can help me with any of these things, thank you.

A: as a catalytic converter becomes bad Sulfur builds up in it and as you know raw sulfur smells like rotten eggs, also as it is heated up sulfur smells worse. and as said before when the exhaust goes through the cat conv the temp of the air is read and is sent back to the fan on whether or not it needs to be on, so needless to say you need a new catalytic converter. and while your at it throw a Flowmaster on it they sound good on those trucks
