Q: chevy silverado?
hey, i have a 2003 chevy silverado 1500. Im not a big fan of the front end, i prefer the 1999-2002 front end version, my question is, can i replace my current 2003 end for that of a 1999-2002 end? and if so will it be very complicated or fairly easy?

A: if you get a complete front clip hood ,fenders, grille, and all of the cosmetics it will fit just fine

Q: my 2002 chevy silverado makes a knocking noise when i first start it up after it has been sitting over night?
my 2002 chevy silverado makes a knocking noise when i first start it up after it has been sitting for about 4 hours. The knocking comes from the bottom of the motor and only lasts for about 15 seconds.

A: The first things to check are which oil filter and weight of oil you’re using. An oil filter made by someone else, even a good company, may not be quite right for your vehicle. If, for example, it doesn’t have an anti-drain-back valve, your oil passages could be empty after sitting a while.

Check the 8th character of your VIN # on the front of the drivers side of the dash, by looking through the windshield. The proper AC/Delco filters for your truck are as follows; W=PF47, V, T, or U=PF59, G=PF454.

As far as what weight of oil you are using, GM recommends 5W-30 weight for most circumstances. 10W-30 is OK if temp is always above 0 degrees F. If temp drops below -20 degrees F, Synthetic 5W-30 or 0W-30 is OK. Heavier weight (higher numbers) oils are not recommended.

Of course, these recommendations are for newer, low mileage vehicles. If you have say 100K miles or more, you may want to go one weight heavier. Many people also advise against switching to synthetic oil for higher mileage engines. Many people have their own preferences as to what brand. I like Castrol best, and BMW actually recommends it in their owners manuals.

Q: Chevy Silverado towing package and different wheels?
I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado with the Vortec Max and towing package. I want to add another type of Chevy wheels (WK-472 is the model number.) Will these other GM wheels work with the towing package?

A: wheels will not change any thing with the towing package as long as u calibrate the computer to the new tire size

Q: How do you change the plugs and wires on a 2002 Chevy Silverado?
I want to change the plugs and wires on my 2002 Chevy Silverado. It alomost has 100,000 on it. I don’t want to pay 400.00 to let someone do it when I can change them myself for under $50.00.
How long does it take to change them?

A: There are short wires that go from each coil assembly to each plug, they are replaceable, just pop the old one off and the new one on. Spark plugs are no different than ever, except that if you use the wrong style of gapper, or are careless, you could destroy the platinum or iridium electrode. Get a wire style gapper, and bend the electrode with a gapping tool, not by forcing the gapper wire into the gap. You don’t have a cap or rotor on your vehicle, so don’t worry about that. the coil over plug ignition your vehicle is equipped with uses the signal from the crank sensor and the computer to determine spark timing, not an ancient distributor. Be sure to use a small amount of dielectric compound in both ends of the plug wires to seal them from water, and keep them from sticking to the plug or coil.

Q: What is the bolt pattern on a 1987 Chevy Silverado lugs for wheels?
I have a 1987 Chevy Silverado and I’m looking at a set of rims that have a 5×5 bolt pattern will they fit?

A: 5 ON 5 PERIOD.. CADILLAC, OLDS,BUICK , PONTIACS AND IMPALAS, ASTRO VANS AND OTHER LARGER GM’S WERE ALL 5 ON 5 PERIOD.! YOU HAVE ZILLIONS OF OPTIONS FOR WHEELS !!

Q: Can you put a shift knob and a steering wheel from a 1987 Chevy Silverado on a 1994 Chevy Silverado?
I want to Switch the shift knob on my column shifter in my 1994 Chevy Silverado to a shift knob from a 1987 Silverado. Will it work? I also want to know is it possible to switch the steering wheels from the same years?

A: don’t know

Q: Will a 96 chevy silverado with the 350 vortec run without the catalytic converter?
Will a 96 chevy silverado with the 350 vortec run without the catalytic converter?
will it run at all?
will it run right?
I am just wondering if it would mess anything up i have been told you can take it off and it will run fine i have been told it wont also would it affect the the o2 sensor making the computer mess up?

A: It will run ok BUT you will have O2 sensor problems (even if you leave them hooked up) and will have CRAPPY fuel economy if you have O2 problems. There are DOZENS of companies that make performance Catalytic converters. If you want to get all you can get out of your exhaust, buy one or two if you have dual exhaust and use those.

Q: How to make a stock 1992 Chevy silverado 1500 faster?
Got a stock 92 chevy silverado 1500 for graduation. 5.7L V8, gas, automatic transmission, new engine, new radiator… What all can I do to make this truck faster/ more ballsy. It has a modified exhaust, but pipes are startin to rust so I think i should replace it. Any tips or good products to purchase?

A: 1st off people… It’s a 1992 truck.. It don’t have a carb. It will be throttle body fuel injected if still stock.

Headers, dual exhaust, good flowing mufflers, high flow cats,

Performance chip for the ECU

K&N cold air system with k&N air filter

Throttle body spacer

Aftermarket TBI intake

Aftermarket lager (600-670 cfm) throttle body

Full tune up, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc

3.42, 3.73, or 4.10 rear gear ratio

2200-2600 rpm stall torque converter

Trans GO reprogramming kit for transmission

After that, all thats left is going inside engine.

Better flowing heads, bigger cam, more compression, etc etc

Q: How much would a 1985 K5 Chevy silverado blazer cost me?
The 1985 K5 Chevy silverado blazer has new paint and no rust. The original miles are 108,000. The engine is a 305. So what is the highest someone can charge for it?

A: They can charge whatever they want. How much will you pay? That depends on how much you want a K-5. (as well as how much others do) K-5s are pretty sought after in good shape, so they are quite a bit more expensive than a similar year Ford Bronco. If it is good paint, the running gear is in good shape, and the motor runs well I could see it going for as much as 4-5000. The typical model with a stock paint and even a bit of age damage, 15-2500.

Q: I have a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 with a 4.3 V6 engine, and was wondering what type of plow would work best?
I have a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 with a 4.3 V6 engine, and was wondering what type of snow plow would work best. I know theirs diffrent sizes and makes but does any one know what kind is right for this kind of truck.Thank you

A: You should look into a light weight fiberglass snow plow. These work great are very strong and dont rust. These plows will work better with your 4.3 V6 and last for years of normal service. These plows are also very common here in ohio. You should call around some of your local upfitters for prices.Best of luck.

Q: What kind of exhaust for a 2000 chevy silverado?
I drive a 2000 1/2 ton chevy silverado. What type of exhaust would give it a deep rumble? I don’t really want anything that’s overly loud, just a decent deep, clear sound.

A: Flowmaster.com…to see and hear the products they offer.

I would recommend the “Flowmaster Super 40 Series”, gave my 1988 Chevy Silverado a deep grawl at all rev ranges… total cost out the door was $237.00, in So Cali Orange County.

Best wishes, Happy hunting!

“/JOe

Q: How much would it cost to repair a gas tank for a 1991 chevy silverado?
I have a 1991 Chevy silverado that did not pass its smog check. I was told I’d have to replace it.

A: http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?N=9872+4294967007+1588+11921+9296 To replace your fuel tank parts and labor you should be looking at around less than $400. Best of luck with your silverado.

Q: can i change the transmission in a chevy silverado?
I was thinking about trying to attempt building the new chevy concept silverado, it has a ls7 engine, and manual transmission, which is great the only problem, the 07 silverado does not come with a manual option, so i was wondering where i could find some info on how to change the transmission of a silverado from automatic to manual.

A: First of all, AWESOME idea, according to one of our associates who does a lot of work on cars. He said the project is certainly do-able. (Our associate has an LT1 in his 1980 Jeep CJ7)

The easiest thing to do would be to take the T-56 manual out of a GTO, Trans AM, Camaro, etc and mate it to the LS7, according to our researcher. The LS7 should bolt right into the Silverado frame, as long as it came with a V-8 from the factory. Then it will be a matter of fabricating rear transmission mounts for the T-56, but that won’t be awful and that will at least get everything in the truck (a custom length rear driveshaft will almost certainly be necessary too).

For the clutch pedal assembly, start scouring junk yards for a manual Silverado and see if you can snag all of the assembly and linkage out of it for your project. Then all the clutch equipment will bolt right in. You will probably need to modify the linkage a bit, but if you’re taking on a project like this, I’m sure you’re comfortable with fabrication. There’s also the option of a hydraulic clutch.

Now, as far as making the electronics work correctly, you’ll need the computer with the LS7 and graft that into the Silverado wiring harness. This is the hardest part of the swap here. There are companies such as Fuel Injection Specialties that will build a custom wiring harness for your application, making the swap a bit easier. Good luck!
Q: What is the Difference between a 2004 and a 2005 Chevy silverado with the duramax?
I’m looking at buying a 2500HD chevy silverado with the Duramax diesel. I need to know what improvements on the engine, and anything else they may have changed.

A: No difference from 04 to 05. The big change came in 2006 with a horsepower increase and the Allison 6 speed automatic, called the Duramax Power Pack.

Q: What would help me increase my MPG in a 1998 chevy silverado?
I have a 1998 chevy silverado with a flomaster exhaust and stock everything else. I am curious as to any other ways to increase MPG. Any cold air intakes, superchips, mass air flow sensors. I need some advice from some people who have some experience in this. Any help would be appreciated.

A: you’ll have a hard time finding anything to give you better mileage, driving habits will give you the best results

Q: How would I find out if I can use keyless entry on my 1996 Chevy Silverado Pu?
I bought a used Chevy Silverado pu, and was curious if it has keyless entry capabilities. Would I find this with a VIN search, or is it a dealer only pay them $100 for the answer type of question? Thanks for any help!

A: Please call your local chevrolet dealers parts dept. They will ask for the last 8 numbers of your VIN.They will use these numbers in there parts computer and tell you if your silverado came factory with key-less entry. If your silverado has factory key-less entry you can buy one or more remotes online and program them with the instructions that come with the remotes and save big over dealers cost.Best of luck.

Q: where can i buy an affordable used Chevy Silverado?

A: AUTO TRADER.

Q: Im looking At Getting A Used 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab?
What should i check for when inspecting the truck? i have no experience with diesel trucks so i need to know what to look for. It has the 6.6 diesel V8, automatic transmission, 4 wheel drive, with 95,000 miles on it. im plaining to do a carfax history check on the truck as well.

A: When looking at a diesel, 95,000 miles should not be a concern. Diesels run well over 200,000 miles (400,000) before a rebuild is necessary. (not 100% sure on the Duramax longevity but should be up there) That engine is probably barely broke in or not. The automatic transmission and drivetrain is my main concern when looking at a vehicle. Appearance is important, usually if it looks rough on the outside it more or less has not be well maintained, or worked really hard. But not every time. If there is maintenance records that is a good sign of being maintained well. Inspect the u-joints, driveshafts, rearends. Most importantly test drive it, make sure that trans shifts. I assume being a diesel it has the GM Allison 5 speed. If so im already happy, but still test drive it, make sure everything works(4×4 in and out ect) Check for leaks, tire condition and inspect the engine for leaks or issues. Exhaust is not a big deal, but check it anyway. Last thing you want to do is buy a vehicle you have to replace stuff on or work on yourself!! Combine all this with your report and it should help you make a quick decision. Good Luck!!

owned a 2003 2500 HD 4×4 8.1 Vortec 5 Spd Allison

Currently 2001 Dodge 2500 4×4 Cummins Turbo Diesel

Q: Looking at buying a used Chevy Silverado 6.5L Turbo Diesel 246k Miles.?
It has an extended cab it is a stick shift 4X4. any idea on how long i can expect the engine to last? also any idea on the MPG City/Highway? year is 1994. anyone who has owned this truck before have any opinion? (I dont want to hear “chevy is crap” i want actual opinions from owners.

A: I can thuroughly anwser this, as i have a 2000 gmc 6.5L The biggest problem is the crankshaft shatters if you drive it too hard without warming it up. The pump mounted driver also failes due to overheating because of poor placement in the motor, just move it and that will prevent issues, usually. I have had it for 8 months only to replace a starter ($240). I get 14-18 mpgs, but mine was modified, so it might hurt the mpgs, i hear lots of people get 17-low twenties. Now i don’t know anything about the manual, because i have a 4L80e automatic transmission, so certianly youll get better mileage than me. Its certainly no competitor with Cummins, or Powerstroke, but it certainly is the most affordable of the three. The thing thats bugging me the most, is no one in my area knows these diesels very well, so i take it to the specialist in town, and also, there i really no modifications, or performance add ons, like the chip programmers. Any diesel engine can usually last a good 300k. But regualar matience, and synthetic fluids will give you much more engine life.

Q: I have two Chevy Silverado w/ Generator installed-used for towing and power. I need to sell?
Chevy Silverado w/ Generator installed-used for towing and power

Any helpful information you might have on how to sell these trucks would be appreciated. Thanks!

Q: I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat?
I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat on weekends and a trailer to haul wood in the winter. The tires have been rotated at 20K because the front tires were wearing quicker then the rear tires. I had it in for inspection and the front tires are almost to the threads on the inside only in the front any guess as to what may be causing it?
I bought the truck new, the tires are not wearing even only on the insides, I never even noticed it until I took it in for inspecton. However I have felt something in the steering when I go around turns especially.

A: Maybe front end out of alignment That will be a good place to start, hope this helps.

Q: Used 2001 chevy silverado?
How much would a used 2001 chevy silverado thats jacked up cost

A: jacked up?

as in not running?

1500 – 2500

otherwise, in running condition a lot depends on miles and condition..

Q: What is the gear oil used in a 2007 Chevy Silverado Z71 4×4 automatic in the front transfer case?

A: Your owner’s manual will tell you under the capacities and fluid specifications section.

Q: What kind of tranny fluid do I use 98 chevy silverado?
What kind of tranny fluid do I use on a 98 chevy silverado? I have the vortec v8 engine. 5.7 liter. There was something on there that said dexter or something like that… They have stage three and four and all kinds of other stuff… Does anyone know what I need for sure? Thanks for the help

A: Dextron III Mercon

Q: Anyone have a Chevy Silverado ext. cab V6 for sale in Illinois or Indiana?
I’m looking for a used Chevy Silverado with a v6 engine and an extended cab $12,000 or under. The problem is almost every one I find has over 100,000 miles which is something I don’t want. Please let me know if have one for sale or have any info on where I can find one. I want to pay cash on the spot. illinois/Indiana area.

A: look on eBay motors
local newspaper
edmunds.com
local craigslist.org

Q: where can i buy a used hood for a 1994 chevy silverado truck?
prefer maroon in color, and less than 100.00.

A: Look in your phone book for your nearest Pick-A-Part or Pull-A-Part junk yard, call & see what they have. They you & your buddies just go down & get it off the truck.

Q: where can i get a good used 4l60e transmission for my 2000 chevy silverado?

A: check out ur auto parts store and transmisssions shops….i am looking for one too…also look at the classifids in the newspaper…u can get lucky and find one ther….i did…….they will range from 800 to 1300 bucks depends on who installs it and if they give u a warranty….good luck………

Q: My speedometer isn’t working on my 2005 chevy silverado?
I just bought a used 2005 Chevy Silverado and my speedometer is going alot higher than i am actually going and i have no warranty. Is there any way i can fix it???

A: There may be a “Special Policy” in place where the cluster may be replaced under a 7 year, 75,000 mile extension of the warranty. Check with your local GM dealer and see if your vehicle will qualify.

If not, the replacement clusters are around $400 and it will have to be programmed at the dealer.

Q: Does anyone know where I can find a used read end, 410 gears, 10 bolt, GTS, for a 1999 Chevy Silverado 4X4?
I am looking for a read end for a 1999 Chevy Silverado 4 wheel drive 5.3. I need the 410 gears , 10 bolt GTS. IMy husband has looked all over and this is the last thing we need to finish our truck. If anyone has any ideas that would be great!!!!!!! Can’t wait to hear from you, we would prefer used but new is ok too.

thanks in advance.

A: A good salvage yard could search others if they did not have one. My recomendation would be to just have yours regeared, 4:10’s will go on the carrier in yours, assuming it doesn’t have 2:73’s which I don’t believe were available in the trucks. Don’t forget since it’s a 4×4 the front gears need to match the rears or you’ll drive sideways a lot and wreck the transfer case

It has leather int, with quad cab, 4×4. its a 2002 chevy 2500 6.0 litre truck, kelly blue book puts it at 12,000 in perfect condition, which its not, and yes i did put the milage on kbb.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Q: for sale 93 chevy silverado white 1500?
93 chevy silverado 1500 for sale very good conditions, current tags and registration. New tires, batery and recently complete tune up price asking is 4,200 or best offer.

Q: Chevrolet silverado information?
Well I’ll be driving in less than a year and I want a truck I LOVE Chevy’s but I heard they tend to have brake problems? I guess I just want to know about that if you have one or other problems they might lead to have or even what you like about it. I wanted to know this because I was up north and there was a 98 chevy silverado for sale and my grandpa told me they had horrible braking systems.

thanks!!

A: On my Silverado I replaced the rotors and pads on front. On the rear I replaced the shoes and wheel cylinders. This was right about at 100k miles. It now has 177k miles and the brakes are still fine.

Q: Any 98-02 Chevy Silverado Step-side black or blue for sale????
I am looking for a 98-02 Chevy Silverado Step-side pickup truck. Preferably black or blue in color and with 4×4. 8′ bed. with less than 50k miles. I can’t find one anywhere and I really, really want this truck!
I have tried papers, online, yahoo, ebay, etc etc. Apparently no one wants to get rid of these trucks….:(

A: try sites like carmax.com or yahoo or ebay auctions or your local or surrounding papers. most papers websites show used trucks for sale in the auto section.

Q: 1977 Chevy C20 Silverado Pickup 4×4 for $2500?
I’ve seen a 1977 Chevy C20 Silverado 4×4 on sale for $2500 and I’m wondering if it’s a good deal or not, it has a rebuilt 350 V8, 350TH, 4″ lift, 33″ tires, lots of new parts and it runs/drives great, body/interior are in good shape and the truck has a little bit of rust.

A: This is a hard question to answer. It really depends on the market where you live and also how much attention to detail there was during the time of installing the new parts. If it really is in good running condition and cosmetically in decent shape, it is werth every pennie. In some places that truck would be more like $6K, but then again in some place like in Las Vegas were I live most people only want to buy newer stuff. which is a bonus for people interested in the old stuff. It helps keep the price down. One thing is for sure everthing on that truck is easy to find and cheep. to rebuild the motor is around $1200, tranny $500, and tranfer case is also around $500. All the suspension is cheep because it went from 1973 through 1987 on almost every fullsize truck and suv that GM made. Infact the suvs were the same suspention through 91.

Q: thinking of buying a 2000 chevy silverado , have some questions?
Hi i found a silverado for sale for $5200 , its a 2000 standard model , 4.3
6cylinder , regular cab with air, its has only 52000 miles on it, 2 wheel drive, good deal ?
when i took it for a test drive heard water moving behind dash , what could that be? was told because it is so cold out -2 that it was anitfreeze moving into heater core? does that make sense?other than that truck drove good but needs a alignment, any advice appreciated

A: Kelly blue book says it is a good deal. Check yourself.http://www.kbb.com/

Q: Pros and Cons on 03-06 Chevy Silverado’s?
I’m getting my first truck and I can’t decide which one. Which chevy silverado should I go for?

http://www.carsforsale.com/used_cars_for_sale/2003_Chevrolet_C1500_110074827_30
Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: looking for a ford or chevy 4×4 pick-up 1996 to 2000 .?
with high mi. and for under $6,000 and have for sale a 1994 chevy Silverado 1500 truck 4×4 for $1,800.

A: look on www.4×4pickuptrucksforsale.com

Q: Need help finding a brush guard for a 2000 Chevy Silverado?
i have a 2000 chevy 1500 5.3 Z71 looking for a brush guard for sale of if some one you know who as one light bars will work to

A: http://www.andysautosport.com/chevrolet/1999_2004_silverado/ Please check out this parts site. They have great parts and good prices.Best of luck.

Q: I have a question about running boards on a Chevy Silverado?
I have a 99 (new body) Chevy Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 4×4

I love my truck, and I’d like to put running boards on it
There are a million Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierras for sale on craigslist in Boise, and half of them have running boards

I’m going to make an offer to buy the running boards off of somebody’s truck, but before I do, I want to make sure that they are bolt on instead of weld on

How much work is it going to be to take these off and put them on?

Thanks

10 pts to best answer

A: I have an 06 extended cab with tubular assist steps. Looking to sell them as the lease is over next month. Anyway, most of these steps use the bolts for the frame. Remove them, hold step up to hole and reinstall, no drilling or welding needed.

Q: 1998 and 1999 Chevy Silverado,Tahoe,Suburban Question?
I thought that the body style of the 1998 Silverado,Suburban and Tahoe’s were different from the 1999 style ? But If you search for those Trucks and SUV that are for sale on the web you’ll get both styles. Why do they put those to styles together? Is there a year confusion when a style of vehicle make changes style of what year it is? Is it that they combine them because when the new year of style comes the dealerships are still selling off last years models? If you know anything about this some help would be appreciated. Thanks

A: the body style of the tahoe and suburban are the same for 96-99. As for the silverado, it is a different chassis obviously, but the trucks are usuaally listed the same for many of the parts, because in lamen terms, all three are essentially the same other than the suburban being extended and the silverado haveing a bed. Very few differences other than specifics that differentiate them by their chassis styles. if you are seeing a 99 that is a different body style, its actually a 2000 that is being tagged a 99 during the chang over period in the fall.

Q: Does anyone have a set of Chevy brand wheels and tires for sale. ?
Send pics if you got them, and how much. I’m looking for a certain type, but I will consider anything. they have to be a least 20″ and have the pressure sensors already built in. I will be putting them on a 2007 Silverado, and they MUST BE CHEVY BRAND.

A: Hi I would look on E bay, you can find about anything you want and several you have never even thought of! Great place to parts shop, hunt, seek, buy. 2 years shopping there!

Q: what is the best way to find a 1977 chevy pickup in michigan?
im looking for a 1977 chevy silverado pickup i just want to browse whats for sale out there in michigan and i dont seem to have no luck in finding one

A: craigslist.com check it out. this truck is 30yrs old and it might have a lot of rust so be careful

Q: would a 1999 Dodge Ram be reliable to buy?
I’m 16, and I’m going to take the exam soon, but I’m also preparing for my first car purchase. At my local dealer, there is a used 99 Ram for sale that I can easily afford. dark blue, extended cab, etc. But I want a car that I won’t need to take to the shop all the time. Is the 1999 Ram one of them, and if not would a Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra be more reliable?

A: Dodge trucks prior to 2003 are known for serious engine and transmission problems, expensive ones. The Chevy/GMC is a better choice. But that’s just averages or statistics. There are thousands of Dodges that never had a serious problem and plenty of Chevys that fell apart. With any used car, particularly one 10 years old, the individual vehicle is more important than the brands reputation. Give the car a thorough inspection and keep your fingers crossed with anything you buy.

Q: Which SUV is the best?
My husband and I are looking into trading our pickup for a used SUV because our 2008 Silverado uses too much gas and doesn’t have enough room. Our concern is back seating space for passengers, saving on gas, how long the SUV will last and space for strollers and other baby things. We are buying from Ebay because they are rated for each sale. Our friends say a Tahoe is perfect while I enjoy a Jeep even though everyone tells me don’t put your trust into one. We don’t want a Ford of any kind. So our choices are BMW X5 for speed (we have a 330i and love how fast they are), Chevy Tahoe for space and how long Chevys have lasted us, and Jeeps just because for some reason I’m very attracted to Jeeps. There are other SUV types but I don’t know anyone who owns them so I don’t have an opinion.

We only have one child right now so we just need one that’s good for traveling with his baby things and our things as well as carrying passengers and saving on gas.

Your thoughts and experiences?

A: If are you willing to consider other SUV’s, I would take a look at the Kia Borrego. The Kia Borrego (a.k.a ‘Kia Mohave’ in Korea) was selected as the “Best Kept Secret” by Autobytel.com and has been named the top-rated ‘SUV $25,000-$35,000’ in the Edmunds.com Consumers’ Top Rated Vehicle awards. The Borrego earned strong marks from consumers for its overall excellent value, along with impressive power and towing capacity, interior space, visibility, fuel economy and extensive list of standard features. The Borrego comes standard with third row seating, so there’s plenty of room for your growing family. The Borrego was designed by automotive designer Peter Schreyer (who now works for Kia), former chief designer for Audi (He designed the Audi TT). Also, The Borrego received four and a half stars out of five from Edmunds.com..

Also, if you are concerned about Kia, I would not be, In 2004, Hyundai/Kia tied with Honda for initial brand quality in a survey/study from J.D. Power and Associates, for having 102 problems per 100 vehicles. This made Hyundai/Kia second in the industry, only behind Toyota, for initial vehicle quality. The company continued this tradition by placing third overall in J.D. Power’s 2006 Initial Quality Survey, behind only Porsche and Lexus. Hyundai/Kia Automotive Group is the world’s fourth largest automaker (second in Asia) and one of the Big Asian Four (with Toyota, Honda and Nissan).

In recent interviews with Toyota executives, they have expressed concerns about Hyundai/Kia and their market share. Hyundai-Kia is the only automobile manufacturer that Toyota fears – and that says something. Kia is also moving up in sales rapidly, even quicker than Hyundai due to their improving quality and design (hired the head designer from Audi about two years ago). Hyundai-Kia is the fastest growing foreign brand in China and is the largest exporter of cars in India (Hyundai has plants in both countries). Hyundai-Kia was the only major automaker to sell more vehicles in 2009 than 2008.

Q: value of my collection of cars?
i have a stash of cars in Texas, all 100% rust free(yes, the titles are in my name)
about what is the value of each?

1992 Chevy stepside C1500 Silverado, lowered, matching numbers 350V8/ 700R4 trans, 187,750 miles, custom white with blue pearl paint, the stereo system is: (2) JBL 1000watt 12inch subs under back seat, 300 watt amp, 2 high end 4×6’s in the dash, clarion stereo head unit with detatchable face plate

stock 1995 Pontiac Bonneville se, non supercharged, 171, 750 miles, not matching numbers(trans was replaced)

1983 Datsun 280ZX 2 seater with 5 speed man and T top, 200,000+ miles (odometer broke@ ~195,000) matching numbers

1980 BMW 320i 2 door coupe, 5 speed manual, matching numbers, idk the odometer reading, the car’s at a relatives house rightnow

1979 GMC C15 shortbed stepside, has a new TH400trans, needs a new motor, body in perfect condition

we only paid for the 1992 Chevy, inherited the Bonneville, and were given the other 3.
all run, and run great except the 79 chevy, my grandad killed the motor and trans within a week of each other, so the trans only has a week of use on it(my uncle pulled the motor, and its in the bed of the truck now)

what tare they worth? they’re not for sale, but ive had people offer alot for the 80bmw, 79 chevy, and 83Z, as is, running or not

A: None would be considered valuable or collectible. They would be worth what someone would pay.

Q: What does the LS on my chevy silverado truck stand for?
Its a chevy silverado classic 4 door truck 1500 v8 and it has LS on the side and i have been wondering what it ment..

A: LS refers to the trim level. LS is the entry level on the Silverado. It’s one step above the work truck. Typically indicitive of the power options…It will also depend on the year though because trim levels change or I should say what comes on the trim level changes.

Q: Problems with climate control on a 2003 Chevy Silverado truck?
My husband has a 2003 Chevy Silverado. We changed the battery on it about 3 months ago. After doing this the air conditioner will blow hot air for no reason. The air conditioner can be off and the hot air still comes out. The truck has dual climate control where the driver and passenger can be at different temps. The passenger side will have cool air and the driver side will have the heater blowing. If we turn the truck off and back on the problem corrects itself. Has anyone dealt with this or does anyone have any suggestions what the problem could be?

A: The left side temp mode door actuator is bad. I had the same truck with the same problem, and I also get alot of warranty claims with this same complaint and the GM guys say it is very common for these temp mode door actuators to go bad. There is one on the left side and one on the right side, and it sounds like the left side actuator is intermittently shorting.

Q: where is the ecm located in a 1988 chevy silverado truck?
Hey there…can you tell me where the ecm is located in a 1988 chevy silverado truck?? Thanks so much.

A: Behind your glove compartment.

Q: 92 Chevy Silverado Truck Smokes when Started?
I have a 1992 Chevy Silverado Pickup Truck with a 5.0 Engine V8 and almost everytime I start it up. It Smokes, then it quits smoking, it doesn’t smoke when I am driving down the road.

But I would like to find the problem and fix it. I was thinking it could be a valve problem. But not sure.

If anyone knows what the problem is or could be. I would appreciate it.

Thanks
It’s probably the valve seals because it smokes out the tail pipe when started.
I think it is a white colored smoke

A: Sorry, but Chevrolet never produced a motor *from the factory with valve stem seals which is a poor aftermarket stop-gap. If your motor also smokes on deceleration rest assured the valve guide clearance is worn, a problem with thin-wall head and block casting with 305’s. To top it off GM never added the same amount of nickel in the 305 blocks and heads as the 283, 302, 327, 350, 383 and 400 heads and blocks.

The only real repair are new valve guides. The sloppy guide holes are bored oversize and new bronze, hardened steel ot manganese bronze guides are pressed back in. A valve job has to follow to true the seats 90 degrees with the guide holes and re-face the valve sealing surface.

Q: Does anyone know a brand name and size oil filter for a 1979 Chevy Silverado truck with a 350 motor.?
The truck has the 350 motor with four bolts. I checked Wal Mart, but their book in the auto department did not go back far enough.

A: Mobil 1 M1-302

Purolator Pureone PL34631

Purolator L34631

ACDelco PF1218 (the PF35 does not have an anti-drain back valve)

WIX 51069 (WIX filters are sold at O’Reilly Auto Parts)

Fram PH5

Fram ToughGuard TG5

Q: my 2001 chevy silverado truck keeps getting disscharge every morning ?
the alternator is fine and battery is fine too.
i tooked it to sears and they check and said my truck is passing high amount of electric voltage???can anyione help me what can it be to fix it?

A: Im willing to bet it is a bad battery. Try unhooking the negative battery terminal overnight and hook it up in the morning and see if it will start. If it won’t then you found your problem.

Q: How do you fold down middle seat in a 2000 chevy silverado truck?
It is a three part bench seat – the middle seat will not fold down.

A: i don’t know about the 2000 but the ‘05 has little straps in the crevice of the seat that you have to pull out. other than that look for small levers on the sides.

Q: I have a 1988 Chevy silverado truck and my gas needle moves back and forth .?
When the tank is low the gage will show full. Is there a fuse or wire that could be not getting ground.

A: That’s possible, if you are not familar with car or truck diagnostics I would take it to a reputable repair facility to be checked out. It might also be the sending unit in the tank which can get pretty expensive.

Q: How much do 1985 chevy silverado truck doors weigh with electric windows and door locks?

A: is this a re-run? just under 100 lbs

Q: How much weight should a 4.3 V6 Chevy Silverado truck be able to tow without transmission overheating?
It is a 2003

A: The 2003 silverado with the 4.3 liter 200 HP and 260 lbs of torque engine is rated 4000 lbs of standard towing. If this truck has the tow-haul button on the end of the shift lever this stops trans overheating. The tow-haul feature stops the overdrive system from causing excessive trans temp. This feature changes the shift points for max towing power and less strain on the trans and runs cooler.Best of luck.

Q: I am in the market for a small SUV. Currently I have Chevy Silverado Truck?
The gas milage is killing me. My needs are improved gas milage, ability to haul some construction tools and materials, room for my kids, 3 teenagers and long lasting, I drive alot. Any suggesions are welcomed.

A: Take a look at the Jeep Liberty or if you need more room, try a Grand Cherokee. Either way, you’ll be getting right around 20 miles per gallon (much better than a Silverado), dominant 4×4 capibility, and a veghicle that has one of the best resale values of ANY vehicle on the market, dollar for dollar. The other thing you may want to take a peek at is the Chrysler Pacifica AWD. Alittle bit more luxury, but over 94 cubic feet of cargo space, seating for up to six, over 20 mpg and a 5 star crash test rating.
Either way, dealerships are making INSANE deals on remaining 2006 inventory, so if you’re looking to purchase within a month, you’ll be sure to get a great deal on what’s left in stock.
Best of luck with your search!

Q: How do I program a Factory GM door remote control for a 2001 Chevy Silverado Truck?

A: Here is the process as per GM. Remember that all your key fobs must be programmed at the same time since once you begin this process the truck erases all previous fobs.

1. Close all the vehicle doors.

2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.

3. Press and hold the door unlock switch.

4. While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.

5. Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.

6. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.

7. Repeat the previous step to program up to 4 transmitters.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter programming mode.

9. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Q: How do I turn up the idle on my Chevy Silverado truck with fuel injection?

A: With the exception of the 2007 model which really is a Silverado, Silverado refers to a trim package, not a model. I’m assuming one of the numbered series for model, 1500, 2500 or 3500.

And the answer is, you can’t. Idle speed on one new enough to have fuel injection is computer controlled. If the idle is so low that it’s needing to be restarted frequently, you may some other issue that needs to be addressed. Do you have a check engine light (or have had one in the recent past)? Reading the error codes would be the first step.

Q: speedometer information on chevy silverado truck?
speedometer has stop working and needle points to 130 mph. Need to know how to fix it. the truck is a 2004 model.

A: you don’t need to … there is a recall on the dash cluster in effect for 2003-2005 model Silverados… even if your milage warranty has expired the recall extends the range to 100,000 miles or 10 years… check with your local chevy dealer for details…
What happened is the board shorted out which signals the needle to swing over to the other end… it has caused several truck fires which is why they offered the recall… you shouldn’t have any problems with getting the work done for free, but if you do call GM and speak to the tech and product assist dept… they will give you the reference number for the recall information.

Q: is a 1986 chevy silverado truck a good vehicle?
it has a 4.2 motor. did they come out with duel gas tanks?

A: i think you mean 4.3,or the 305 engine which it could have had in it they are alright trucks to own i have a 95 that i drive a lot,the 86 model didn’t have as much pollution control on it and they ran pretty good,if you found one with low miles and that isn’t beat all to pieces you might have found a good one, watch out for rust, because they did rust a lot, other than that those are good trucks, reliable is the word I’m looking for on that one,it sounds pretty decent ,just have it checked out if your going to buy it,Chevy did some weird things but the only ones i have seen with dual tanks was the ones with the bigger engines and they was mostly 4 wheel drive models, good luck on it.

Q: How many camshafts does my 2003 chevy silverado 1500 4×4 have?
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 4×4 and I need to know how many camshafts i have??

A: You have only one.

Q: What car seats are most compatible with my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab?
I need some suggestions on what infant car seats (with the removable base) and what regular car seats are most compatible with my truck… a 2006 extended cab Chevy Silverado 1500. Thanks!

A: You can do a search in the car seat compatibility database link below. But the only way to know for absolute sure is to head to Babies R Us, and try some seats out.

One to note: you can not go wrong with a Britax Marathon/Decathalon/Boulevard. I have yet to hear of a car it didn’t work in b/c of the way the base is made, it fits in everything. Here’s advice on convertible car seats:

The Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon (These 3 are the same seat, just different variances of luxury additions, with the Marathon being the cheapest base model) can be found for regular price of $269, and on sale at Albee Baby online for $209-$219. The Marathon a wide open easy to route belt path, which makes using it correctly a lot easier, as do the built in lockoffs, which mean you never again have to use a locking clip. I can get it into 4 different vehicles in under 2 minutes. Because of the way the base is made, it fits in most cars. And, it is worth the money, b/c it lasts usually twice as long as most other car seats (all car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture) lasting a baby till they are 5-6 years old, where most at Walmart will only last till 2-4 years old. Rear faces to 33lbs, then forward to 65lbs. and top slots 17inches tall, lasts most kids to ages 5-6 years old.

The Recaro Como/Signo (Signo is the more expensive version) is a brand new seat, the Como is $249 with free shipping at many sites online. It rear faces to 35lbs, and front faces to 70lbs, and has top slots at 19inches, taller than any other convertible on the market, so this will outlast even the Britax Marathon, for a slightly cheaper price. Very plush seat, too. It even has the built-in lockoffs! They’re easy to install, like the Britax seats, and include infant and toddler padding. With the goals of rear facing as long as possible and staying in a harness as long as possible, this seat is great.

The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17″, harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn’t have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don’t have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It’s one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon.

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe Convertible seat is great, it is made by Britax, without all the frills. It’s the same shell as a Marathon, but for less than half the price. $130 at Albee Baby online with free shipping, or at their eBay name, babysurplus. Rear faces to 33lbs, forward to 55lbs. Easy to use, fits in most cars.

As for infant car seats, just make sure you get one with a 5 point harness. They are all pretty similar in fit and use. So just pick one that you like and will use correctly. Graco SafeSeat1 is a great choice, it goes up to 30lbs (all other infant seats only go to 20-22lbs) and has built in lockoffs.

Q: How do i switch my mirror from the compass to the temperature display in my chevy silverado 1500?
I have a 1999 chevy silverado with only one display window in my rear-view mirror. I don’t have an owners manual for it. Can anyone help my on changing it from the compass to the temperature?

A: You should have one or two buttons on that mirror, push them and you will switch it to temperature.

Q: How much can the 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 w/ the 5.3L vortec motor approximately tow??
I realize that chevy 1500 can pull more than any other truck on the market with the 6.0L but what about the 5.3? please email me at motocrossrider230@verizon.net Thanks

A: between 6700 and 8900 depending on the cab, bed length, axle gear ratio and 2 or 4 wheel drive

Q: Is a 1995 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 130,000 miles going to break down soon?
I am looking to buy said Silverado and it has had no problems before – it’s in mint condition, but for how long? I’m a Chevy guy, but I want to know how much longer this truck’s going to stay like this.

And now, the obvious statement of the year: best answer wins.

A: I have owned many Chevy Trucks and the 1995 is a very good year. The last year Silverado with the throttle body 350. This could be a very good vehicle is it was maintained. Look for intake leaks, shine a light into the valve cover to check for deposits and look for a nice red color for the transmission fluid.
Even if something goes wrong with these trucks, parts are available everywhere and are cheap compared to some other vehicles. This body style is also stronger than the new ones. I have personally had 4 vehicles in the 88-98 body style with over 250,000 miles and have friends with over 400,000 miles. It is all how they are taken care of.

Q: How much is a 97 chevy Silverado 1500 w/ some upgrades worth?
How much is a 97 Chevy Silverado 4×4 with 112,000miles newer tires with aftermarket off road rims, also dual exhaust, and a bedliner.
Thanks

A: I do know this atleast for my area b/c we were just looking one, around $7,000 to $8,000. I base this upon we were looking at one that was a 99′ with lots of extras and 120,000 miles for $9,500.

Q: what would a monthly payment be for a 2000 chevy silverado 1500?
i found a 2000 chevy silverado for $5000 if i pay $1000 down how much would i have to pay monthly for 24 months?

A: I’d guess $150-200 depending on what rate you get and any sales tax too.

Q: does anyone know in a Chevy silverado 1500 how much power does the 6.0 litter have?
I’m thinking of buying a chevy silverado its a 2003, it says it has the 6.0 litter in it, which is gasoline, now like compared to the 5.7 hemi in a dodge, or v-8 magnum, what has the most power?

A: In that year and model the 6.0 had 345 hp. The current 6.0 has 364.

Q: help with my 1988 Chevy silverado 1500 speed control is out?
i have a 1988 Chevy silverado 1500 and the speed controls been out for a few years and i am wanting to fix it anyone know something that might be wrong with it

A: First of all check the fuses….then if you are not mechanically inclined take it to a shop….really hard to fix over the Internet

Q: How do we turn off the check engine light in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and in a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 PU?
Okay, We have 2 vehicles that need to be inspected and have been told that they can not be inspected with the check engine light on. We have fixed the problems in both vehicles but the light remains on. My G-ma gave us the Tacoma and said the light been on and off since she got it but, I’ve had it for about 3 years now and it’s been on the whole time. My husbands truck (the Chevy) had an exhaust problem and he fixed it and his check engine light will not go off either. His is standard. Please help me!!! If you have any more questions or need more info to help just write and ask. Please and thank you!!!

A: cheap way to go is if you can remove the bulb from the console , this requires nimble touch and not to damage your truck. remove the entire clock, remember where the check engine light bulb is remove it and shine a flash light through it to make shure replace the clock and ur good to go

make sure u get it checked out u don’t want a simple sensor running your entire engine

if i am correct the Chevy carries a LCD display screen u might have to carry it to the dealer

simplest solution carry ur trucks to a garage and service them

Q: Aftermarket Air intake or Aftermarket Headers on Chevy 1500 SIlverado?
I want my truck to sound louder, i have a stage 2 Flowmaster exhaust with is cut-off, witch would make my truck louder, aftermarket headers or an aftermarket Air intake, (prolly not cold air) ? THAnks any suggestions.
97 Chevy 1500 Silverado, 305 V8

A: If you’re going entirely for loudness, then go for headers all the way. Headers will make your car louder, while maintaining a good overall sound. An air intake will probably make it louder, but it definitely wouldn’t sound as good as new headers.

Q: I have an 05 chevy silverado 1500 what to know about cold air intake?
My truck is an 05 silverado with the 5.3 motor ive been looking for cold air intakes and i just wanted some expert advise on the one i should get. Im also looking to get dual exaust and im not sure if cat back would be good or if i should just get them all the way to manifolds? and any other good ideas about a lift would be nice to. thanks

A: Your exhaust question is all about the money.A cat back system is just that, cat back. If you were to go all the way to the manifolds, you’re looking at potentially double the money. In order for you to run a true dual system,AND stay emmissions legal, you’ve got to keep the convertors. There are companies out there that offer complete systems for your truck. Flowmaster,Borla, and Edelbrock to name a few,and these companies offer free flowing, tuned headers.
It’s all about the cash that’s burning a hole in your pocket.Your intake and exhaust are the 2 easiest ways to free up some horsepower! Get to it!

Q: I have a 1994 Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd Pickup and I need to know what Engages my front hubs?
What actually locks the front hubs on a 1994 silverado… Is it vacuum like the s10 p/u or blazer or is it electronic… my transfer case is a manual T-case with no push button electronics… Thanks guys

A: Technically your ‘hubs’ are always connected. The passenger axle shaft is disconnected from the differential. It is actuated by a thermal actuator located on the passenger side on the rear part of the differential housing. It has 2 large wires connected to it.

Q: How Can I Improve Chevy Silverado 2500 W/Vortec 6000 Fuel Mileage?
We own several Chevy Silverado 2500 with Vortec 6000 gasoline engines. Model years range from 2002 to 2005. We used to get 15 to 17 MPG. Now we get 10 MPG. Any tips on how to improve fuel mileage and get it back into the mid-teens?
While it might be nice to extend the fuel mileage beyond the original, I am simply trying to get it back to where it was when the vehicles were new. We routinely use fuel injector cleaner. Sometimes this improves the mileage but the results usually only last for a few weeks. The results may be deceiving because we often use the cleaner right before a long trip.

These vehicles are usually driven an average of 30 miles per day. Normally these are highway miles with some city driving. Typically 2/3 highway, 1/3 city.
I believe that the intake filter has been changed but I will check it/them. Never thought of the exhaust issue. Sometimes these trucks are driven off road (construction) and it is possible that one or more of the guys hit something.

One of the vehicles (2005 Silverado 2500HD 3/4 TON) has a ladder rack on it. That one never gets good mileage. Usually 10 to 12 MPG. I suspect that the wind resistance of the ladder rack causes the poor mileage.

A: one of the best ways that i found to improve gas millage is a cold air intake. when gas goes into the combustion chamber not all of it gets burned up if you force colder air in as well the plugs fire and burn more of the gas that’s already in the chamber witch in turn improves your gas millage not by a hole lot but it does help. other things to check would be your plugs and wires and tire pressure

Q: Chevy Silverado 2500 for sale and i want to buy?
Im looking at this chevy 2500 6.0 litre truck, it has 140,000 k miles on it. Its being sold for 7995 im stuck. Is this a good deal? It has leather int, with quad cab, 4×4. its a 2002 chevy 2500 6.0 litre truck, kelly blue book puts it at 12,000 in perfect condition, which its not, and yes i did put the milage on kbb.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Q: What is the best muffler for my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500?
Looking to get input on the best sounding muffler to put on my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD (Gas) Ext. cab.
I would like something a bit more aggressive sounding than the stock system.
Thanks!

A: I am partial to Magnaflow my self. Nice deep rumble but not too loud. If your looking for a cat-back I would have to recommend MBRP. They make an exceptional product, priced about the same as the rest and the best customer service in the biz.

Q: I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 and want to install a factory remote starter from the dealer.?
I have heard alot of talk of remote starters being bad for your car/truck along with hearing stories of it having no effect at all. I am planning on keeping this truck long past the warranty but don’t want an electrical nightmare down the road. I work on a tight schedule and want the starter to let the engine warm up during cold winters. Does anyone have any advice/experience?

A: Dealer installed factory setups are not normally the problem, its the aftermarkets. Dealer installed parts do not void warranties.

Q: I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 and want to install a factory dealer installed remote starter?
I have heard alot of talk of remote starters being bad for your car/truck along with hearing stories of it having no effect at all.
A: look into viper or clifford remote start alarm
or 2 way system
they are the same as the dealer option and you will save half of the price

Q: How much on average is insurance on a 2005 chevy silverado 2500 or ford F-250?
Looking to buy one of these vehicles and wanted to see how much on average it is. Thanks!

A: It varies a lot from state to state, even city to city. The two vehicles will be similar in price. It would be impossible to guess since we don’t know where you are. Just look in the yellow pages for a broker who deals with state farm, or something like that, to get started. Of course, show around with Geico and Progressive to get the best deal.

I’m more of a Ford guy, but with the F-250’s of that era, I would go with the Chevy. They tend to be more durable. Most of all, avoid the Ford diesel, if the one you’re looking at has one.

All the best.

Q: What would be the best mudding lift kit for a 1999 Chevy Silverado 2500 4×4?
Not sure about the size of the bed but I know there is a back seat and the door for it can only be opened if the front door is open. You may not have needed to know that but figured I say it anyway. So what is the best lift kit for mudding? Where could I get it and how much would it generally cost? And what tires would be best for it?

A: 4″ suspension lift.

Q: I was wondering I have a 2002 chevy silverado 2500 HD would changing my rear end help the gas mileage?
It is a 4:10 on a 4×4 club cab short bed 6.0 L I get about 12 mpg now.

A: You would have to change front and rear gearing equal, the highest you can probably change it would be around 3.55 I wouldn’t expect a big change in gas mileage maybe 2-4 mpg. it would take a long time to make up the expense with gas savings since you have to change the front ratio too.

Q: How do I turn off Daytime running lights on a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 truck?
I’ve tried pushing the interior light button 4 times quickly, I’ve tried turing the light switch dial back, but nothing seems to work. They are driving me nuts.

A: with a louisville slugger. LOL

Q: my 2001 chevy silverado 2500 will not engage the 4 wheel drive. does anyone think it is the actuator?
4 wheel drive would engage periodically , but will not engage any more.

A: First things first: check your 4WD/ATC fuse in the underhood fuse box. Both of these fuses should be good and have power. Also, when you push the 4wd engage switch, does the indicator come on? If not, might have a bad switch. If so, could be a the encoder motor (actuator) or the transfer case shift controld module. Take your truck to a local Autozone or Oreillys and have them scan the vehicle for free. Usually, if its a fault in the computer of circuitry, it will display a code. And if it doesnt, it might be a mechanical malfunction. Good luck with it.

Q: I have a 2001 Chevy silverado 2500 extended cab and i wanted to put some subs under the back seat?
Does anyone know how much a special box cost so the subs will fit under the back seat thanks…

A: Go to www.jlaudio.com and look at their stealthboxes. They incorporate a sub or subs and space for an amp…all fitting into the smallest nooks and crannies of most vehicles while providing the best sound. Some even replace your seat console! They’re pretty awesome. I’d say you’re looking at around $300-500 for JUST a box whether you buy a Stealthbox or have a good car audio shop custom build you one. However, I’d HIGHLY recommend a stealthbox even over a cusom made one because the stealthboxes are engineered for optimum sub performance in a small space…not just “fitting” subs into a small space like the local stereo shop will do.

Q: 1989 chevy silverado 2500 need to change valve seals?
what are the step i need to do so i can change the valve seals my truck has been smoky.,,, any websites i want todo it myself… 1989 chevy silverado 2500 350 engine 5.7L

A: First find out if that is the issue.

Do a wet/dry compression on all the cylinders.

That is where you do a compression test on all the cylinders and write them down.

Then squirt about three pumps of oil from a oil can into each cylinder and retake the compressions.

If the compressions don’t change and are low, the valves are burnt and you need a valve job. If the compressions go way up after the oil seals the rings, then the piston rings are bad and the engine needs rebuilding and that may be where the oil smoke is coming from.

If all the cylinders are within 20 psi and runs good, then it may be your valve guide seals are bad. You can replace them without pulling the heads.

You can go to an auto parts store and buy a valve spring compressor that is used while the head is on the block. It has an air fitting that screws down into the spark plug hole and when filled with compressed air, holds the valves up while you remove the spring and replace the valve guide seal.

Q: how do you remove the front differential drive shaft seal on 1990 Chevy Silverado 2500?
Trying to replace the front differential drive shaft seal and the seal that goes to the drive shaft on the transfer case. The truck is diesel and is 4×4.

A: Take a cold chisel and a hammer and beat on the edge of the seal enough to warp it enough to remove it. Use a seal installation tool to put the new one in. Auto Zone or NAPA will probably lend you a tool to put a new one in.

Q: How do you remove a spindle nut fro a 1998 Chevy Silverado 2500?
What size socket do I use?

A: If its 4×4 is a big one. I dont remember what size it is but its one that comes in the standard sets you can buy. Sometimes you need the ones made for axle nuts with the thinner side wall to fit in the recess. Standard sockets that big tend to have fairly thick sidewalls and sometimes dont fit.

Q: Does the Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab have a different wheelbase than the Chevy silverado 2500 crew cab?

A: I think it might because a Crew Cab is longer than an Extended Cab. But you can never be to sure…

Q: What kind of diffirential is in my 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (DMAX 6.6L turbo)?
What kind of diffirential is in my 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (DMAX 6.6L turbo) what weight gear oil should i use and how much? is there a drain plug or do i have to pump it out through the fill hole? How often should i change it?

Thanks for any help

A: consult owner’s manual, the front has a drain and the rear has a drain hole. both axles use syn fluid. 80-90 i believe

Q: Allison transmission in 2004 chevy silverado 3500, question about internal filter.?
I have a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 with a 6.6L turbo diesel and allison transmission, i have heard that the internal filter only needs to be changed if i have the entire transmission overhauled. is this true? also where is the filter located, is it in the pan?

A: yes it is in the pan the filter on the out side or the screw on is the main filter to kept changed it will take most of the dirt out the one in the pan need to be changed win you put new trans fluid in that the best time to do it.

Q: Does a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 w/ allsion transmission have a drain plug on the torque converter?
also where is the torque converter located? if mine has a drain plug, how would i completely refill my transmission after fully changing it?

A: Lenogo DVD to iPhone Converter – Lenogo DVD to iPhone Converter is the fastest DVD movie to iPhone video converter software so far in the world. With Lenogo DVD to iPhone Converter, you can convert almost all kinds of DVD to iPhone video (mp4) format. Its conversion speed is far faster than real-time, converting one DVD movie only takes half an hour in some high-end computers. Lenogo DVD Movie to iPhone Video Converter supports single-step conversion of DVD video into iPhone-ready MPEG-4 format while some other soft wares need two steps which wastes unnecessary time.

Q: On a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 with duramax diesel engine what is the best way to chagne the fuel filter?
I know it can be done by pulling the passenger side wheel well cover off so you can do it from the bottom, How do you pull the cover off? there are way too many clips for me to know which ones to pull off?

Thanks

A: THeres actually only about 6 clips you have to pull, get ahold of the cover and look to see which one are holding it. The is about the easiest and fastest way to do it. You can lay over the fender and reach it put if its really tight it can be hard to get ahold of there. Pull the filter, replace it turn the set screw about a 1/4 of a turn and then prime the heck out of it until it starts to squirt fuel out of the set screw and then tighten the set screw and your done.

Q: I have a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 with a duramax diesel engine, the fuel filter is a spin off style?
it has a water sensor on the bottom that you just keep reusing with the new filter. How much should i tighten the filter?

Thanks
Also, how do you prime it. i have seen the little triangle shaped cover with 3 screws in it. it is on top of the filter assembly. is the primer bulb under that?

A: i hate changing those sob’s but tight enough to just squish the o ring, there isn’t much pressure there. you also have to prime it jic ya didnt know about 20 push’s gets it

Q: how do i remove a heater core of a 1998 chevy silverado 3500?
ii need to remove the heater core of my 1998 chey silverado 3500 and replace it with a new one… can anyone give me the details on how to do it and also any diagrams you may have for it too… please help
i dont not want to damage my vevhile and chilton does not make manuls for the year of my truck neither does haynes
is their any way to do it without removing the dash
thank you everyone but does any have any pictures.. so i know what i am looking for

A: Remove the glove box to give you more room. There is a small plate on the under side of the heater box on the pass side. There will be 7 or 8, 7mm headed screws that hold it on, there is one hidden against the fire wall betwwen where the heater hoses come it. The core will be right there when you remove it.

Q: How do you replace the fuel injectors on a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (6.6L duramax diesel engine)?
Are there any special tools needed and what do i have to take off to get to the injectors? What are symptoms of injectors going bad?

Thanks

A: This is NOT something that you want to attempt yourself!!!! There is a procedure for this and tools required. You can cause FAR FAR more problems doing this without kowing exactly what you are doing.

What problems are you having with the truck?

Q: Where is the intercooler located on a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 with a 6.6L turbocharged duramax diesel?
And what type of intercooler is it? example: air to air

Q: How do you change the engine coolant in a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (6.6L duramax diesel)?
I have searched and looked in my owners manual and the diesel supplement text that came with the manual and i could not find anything.

A: The radiator drain is on the bottom of the radiator opposite the lower radiator hose. Drain this into a bucket. The engine block has its drain plug located just below the freeze plugs on the engine block. Remove this bolt and drain the coolant into a bucket.

Recycle of safely dispose of the coolant. It is often toxic to animals.

To refill, close the radiator drain valve and replace the engine drain plug(s). Pour 1/2 the capacity of the engine coolant system (that is in your manual) into the radiator. Top up the radiator with water (distilled is best but not necessary). Start the engine and let it come to temperature (this allows the thermostat to open and replace the coolant in the engine which was drained earlier.

When the upper radiator hose becomes warm to the touch, the thermostat will have opened and allowed coolant to flow from the radiator into the engine so with the engine still running, CAREFULLY loosen the radiator cap to its first unlocked position.

You may get steam release so use a rag to do this. Once it is loose and any steam has escaped, top up the radiator with water and fill the overflow receptacle with a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. Cap the radiator.

Finally, check for leaks. If your coolant was dirty you may need to flush your cooling system and you do that between the drain and coolant addition.

Q: How do you replace the starter on a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (6.6L duramax diesel)?
Please give details especially when it comes to putting shims back in plase.

A: first you don’t need shims. disconnect batteries remove wiring from starter, remove 2 starter bolts. loosen exhaust clamp for turbo downpipe remove t-case mount nuts and raise t-case. remove starter and reinstall all

Q: How can I get a diagram of the a/c of a 2001 Chevy 3500 Silverado?
I just want to know how the a/c works and I need a diagram of it.

A: Try the chevy dealer or the library and ask for a chiltons manual.

Q: How to change engine coolant in 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (6.6L turbocharged duramax diesel)?
It has a pressurized reservoir, it does not have a cap on the radiator? any help would be appreciated

Thanks
there is a drain valve on the bottom of the radiator, but my question is how do i refill the radiator since there is only a pressurized reservoir and no cap on the radiator?

A: The system is filled via the reservoir. There is a small 12mm bleed bolt in the top of the thermostat housing (which is right behind the oil fill tube) that must be removed before you start filling the reservoir. Once your coolant starts coming out of this hole, reinstall the bolt. Then continue filling the reservoir to the full mark. Leave the cap off, start the engine, and fill back up to mark. Put cap on and drive it until it gets to operating temperature, then recheck level and fill to mark.

Q: My truck has an eaton G80 locking diffirential, it is a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 dually.?
I have heard that GM makes a friction modifier, what is it,what does it do and do i need it?

A: this gas guzzler uses a friction mod to change MPG from 6 to 6.5….not.

Q: Where is the pcv valve located on a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (6.6L turbocharged duramax diesel V8)?
please be specific.

A: Document ID# 1640357
2004 Chevrolet Chevy K Silverado – 4WD

Starting in January 2004, a closed crankcase ventilation system is used to meet new diesel emissions requirements.

Located in both valve rocker arm covers are diaphragms to control the venting of the crankcase gases. As the pressure of the crankcase gases increase, they overcome the spring holding the diaphragm in the closed position. If a vacuum situation arises in the crankcase, the diaphragm closes the port in the valve rocker arm cover. Closing the port will prevent unfiltered air to enter the crankcase.

The crankcase gases travel from the valve rocker arm covers through hoses to a tee, where they enter the turbocharger inlet duct. Because of the use of a closed crankcase ventilation system, it is normal for oil residue to be found on the turbocharger compressor wheel and inside the charge air cooler, pipes, and hoses.

No routine maintenance is required to the crankcase ventilation system.

Q: How would i jump someone off with my truck? it is a 2004 chevy silverado 3500 (6.6L diesel)?
I’m asking because it has 2 batteries, im pretty sure the voltage is still 12volts. How are they wired and would i just connect cables to one battery? could soemone jump my truck with a car that just has one battery?

Thanks

A: Yes, you are correct as far as your vehicle still having a 12 volt system, as they are hooked up in a parallel circuit. If they were hooked up in a series circuit, that would make for 24 volts. It is best to hook up to your primary battery, not in that the other one is isolated, because it’s not, but because it’s the one that is most directly connected to the Alternator.

Otherwise, follow the proper procedures as outlined in the link the first poster provided, especially the parts about having both vehicles off, and making the last connection away from the battery. The Master Brake Cylinder often works well for this, if you can reach it. Also that the other car has it’s doors closed, and/or as much else turned off as possible.

As far as someone else jumping your truck, yes, that can be done. It would be helpful if the other car had a battery with a high CCA/Reserve Capacity, and a High Output Alternator, as your diesel-equipped vehicle requires more power to start it, hence the use of 2 batteries.

Q: how do you take the speed regulator or governor out of a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 without using a programmer?
when i try to go to the top speed my truck just dies out .
WITHOUT using a chip or programmer

A: you cant take it out,,or reprogram it without a programmer,,its built in,,and has to be programmed,,i know what you mean,,its kind of aggravating at times, this is the only way i know of to do it,and make it work right,,it was put there to keep you from over revving the engine,,i hope this help,s.

Q: What type or size will a 99 Chevy silverado 1500 pull?
My wife and I are looking for a used camper and wanted to know what options we would have available to us, but but before we started looking, I wanted to know what my truck will handle.

A: The door sticker DOES NOT tell you how much you can pull; it posts GVWR, not GCWR.

Your truck is rated to tow at least 6000lbs, maybe more depending on cab configuration, 2 or 4 wheel drive, axle ratio, and engine selection. Look in your owners manual in the towing section for the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) for your truck configuration.
You will take the weight of your truck (with driver and passenger, and anything else you plan on carrying in the truck, fuel) and subtract your truck weight from the GCWR. The number you get is your maximum trailer weight.

Also take note of your GVWR to see that you don’t go over that number, as well as your rear axle rating to see that your tongue weight is not too much. You will benefit from a load distributing hitch for a heavy tongue trailer.

I would say that you would want a trailer under 6k pounds. You don’t want to run your truck at the max. Besides, you need to factor in weight of water, food, bedding, ect. A rule of thumb is to look at the GVWR of the trailer in question. If it is above your maximum trailer weight (that you figured out earlier), then it is too heavy.

You could safely tow a trailer that is in the mid 20′ range. Actual length depends on trailer options, and what the trailer is made out of (you can get aluminum framed trailers that weigh a lot less).

Have you decided on a bumper-pull or a 5th wheel? I prefer 5th wheel (they pull and ride better). If you have a short bed truck, you may have clearance issues trailer-to-cab. They make hitches and 5th wheel adapters that move the trailer away from the cab to help with this.

Q: 1999 1500 Chevy Silverado defroster vent won’t open when using the dashboard control?
Replaced 3 knob switch and checked fuses. Did not solve problem. Is there a quick & easy way for me to troubleshoot before I take this problem to a technican?

A: your system uses 3 to 4 electric actuators that control the functions of the door flaps including temp control.
one of your actuators is bad and thats fairly hard to get to without removing the instrument panel completely.
usually mechanics loosen the dash and pull it out far enough to get to the bad actuator.

Q: What engine oil type do i use for my 2001 Silverado 1500 4.8L?
I have no manual for my 2001 Silverado truck, and don’t know what oil type to use, so can anyone tell me? I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8L 2WD. Thanks in advance!

A: 5w30. I personally use Castrol, but any brand is good. I don’t care too much for Penzoil, it tends to sludge up.

Q: My 89 Chevy 1500 Silverado jerks when put into gear from park to drive why? More details below plz help?
Also why does it jerk when on the road at 50 mph? We just had these things fixed on it : It used to jerk worse, but now the jerking has very much diminished. What could be making this happen?

Tuneup
New gas filter
E.G.R Control Valve Solenoid
Air filter
Spark plugs and wires
This is also an automatic truck without a 4×4.

A: Usually an abrupt jerk at a high speed IS caused by a lack of ignition, or spark. My brother-in-laws Dodge van had this problem and it ended up being the coil wire shorting out intermittently against the engine due to poor insulation of the wire and improper routing of the wire.
Another clue was that the jerking was worse on damp days which allowed the spark to short out easier.
Hope that helps.

Q: 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4?
I bought this Chevy new in 2000, I use it alot mostly highway miles in the rocky mountain states. I service this vehicle every 3000 miles. Haven’t any problems with it yet. Just belt, tire, wiper battery replacements. It just turned over 269,680 miles. How long can this truck be expected to last before it needs a major overhaul.

I’m still getting the same mileage as i did the day i bought it and it doesn’t burn any oil it runs great and has plenty of power.

A: Better check your rear brakes… the rear disc brakes will wear out twice as fast as the fronts (doesn’t make sense, does it) and will chew up the rotors and cost $800 or so to replace..

Q: Torque setting for upper control arm bolt on 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71?
One of the upper control arm bolts on my Z71 keeps coming loose. When it does, the vehicle lunges to the right when I brake and also makes a banging noise as the control arm shifts within the pivot slot.
I’ve tightened it a few times but it continues to come loose. If I over tighten it, will it prevent it from being able to pivot as it is apparently designed to?
I think this design sucks. They should have used a nylock nut to prevent it from coming loose.

Q: i need a 6 inch lift for a chevy silverado 1500 LS 4.8 v8. any suggestions?
okay, i have a chevy silverado 1500 LS and i want to put a 6 inch lift on it. i want a nice lift, not some piece of shit. i need a full lift kit, i just cant find any and i dont really know a whole lot about them to begin with. if anyone can help i could use alot!

Q: Chevy Silverado 1500 or Ford F150?
2003-2006 models. I’m going to use it as a daily driver and occasionally some towing and hauling. From what I hear the chevy is more dependable, has more HP and better fuel economy, while the ford has more durability and a more of a work truck. I’m interested in a 2005 silverado 1500 4×4 and I want to know if it will do me right. I need some opinions please, anything would be nice. Thanks.

A: The Chevy will be your best bet if you are using it as a commuter. GM trucks have always had the best ride and handling as well as fuel economy. Dependability is hard to gauge, especially on a used vehicle. If it has been well cared for a GM Vortec V8 can easily go 300,000+ miles, if it’s been beat it may not last 150,000. As far as Ford v Chevy, they are both man made and man isn’t perfect so both are going to have some issues. I have always been a Chevy guy so has my dad and his dad, but that does not mean all their trucks will be like the ones we got.

Q: How reliable is an older Chevrolet Silverado?
I’m turning 16 soon and my mom is giving me around $10,000 for for my first car what car I really want is a used Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab but what I have been noticing when searching for one on the internet is that almost all around my price range have high mileage, around 140,000. So what I was wondering is how reliable are Silverados with high mileage?

Also would it be a better choice to get one that doesn’t have the extended cab without high mileage or to get a Dodge ram 1500 quad cab (they are reasonably cheaper)?
Im lookig for around 2003 or 2004

A: I bought mine new in 1993. I now have just over 375,000 miles on it, and have not had any major engine work yet. But then, I change the oil regularly, do all the maintenance regularly, so I won’t have a problem. My answer to you is this… ask to have it check by a good mechanic of your choice before you commit a lot of money for something. It’s best to find out if the truck has been care for or abused. It’ll be worth the few bucks it’ll cost you. As far as the Silverado goes, I’ve been happy with it, its held up well, and after 16 years, still going strong.

Q: 92 Chevy Silverado 1500 4×2 throttle body question?
Okay we just bought the above mentioned truck. We have found that the “button” in the fuel bowl is bent and will notallow the correct amount of fuel to flow through. We have called all over North Florida looking for a used throttle body but it seems that no one has one….. Werid I know. Anyway it seems that my only quick choices are to by a new one at about 300 bucks or I have been given a 2 barrel (non fuel injected) carb. that hass come off of another truck with the same size motor (350 half ton). I really don’t have the extra money to spare unless I have no other choice and we would like to get rid of the fuel injection anyway….. Can we use this other carb, if so how hard it that to change out…. what do we need to do? Or should I just suck it up and spend the money?

I am a moron when it comes to cars but my husband is pretty good so any help or advice would be great. Thanks.

A: to change out the carb u have to change out the fuel pump too which is a lot of money your best bet is to buy and pull a new throttle body off a another truck of that kind from pull a part junkyard i think is only like 22 dollars their.

Q: Replaced the alternator and battery in my 95 chevy silverado z71, and the battery light is still on. Help PLZ!?
I have a 1995 chevy silverado 1500 Z71 and i used to have a big stereo system in it. I took it out about a year ago and now have replaced the alternator three times in two years and recently (a week ago) replaced a three year old battery with a brand new battery. Why is my check battery light still on? I think that a wire might be shorting out on metal somewhere but im not a mechanic so its just a guess. I also think the stereo system i used to have in there could be associated with this electrical problem. If anyone can shed any light on my situation, it would be great! Thanks for any replies!

A: If the alternator is new and connected properly, and your new battery has a full charge -you can check this several ways ,for instance turn on your headlights with the engine off and then just for a few moments turn the heater a/c blower(fan) to high.Do the lights dim noticeably or does the fan seem to turn much slower than when the car is running? Also, does the engine turn over quickly when you try to start it?If the lights are dim and blower slow or the engine turns over slowly you may have a bad connection at the battery, clean both terminals well and both cable ends.Bad connections at the battery will cause both your battery and alternator to wear out early. If this doesn’t fix the problem make sure the connections at the engine ground and the starter are good.If those are good you may have a bad cable which can be tested out of the vehicle with an ohm meter.

Q: How many quarts in my silverado?
How many quarts of oil should I use in my 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500? No owner manual came with the truck so I’m not sure.

A: start with four to be safe. Then check and add it in intervals of a 1/4 of a quart or so. With smaller cars like little camrys and those kind of cars, start with three and the again add in intervals of a 1/4 of a quart

Q: 2008 Ford F150 FX2 or 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT?
Right now there good deals on trucks in my area. I can get a 2008 Silverado LT (5.3L V8) for about $20k. It has better gas mileage, and better overall ratings from some reviews I’ve read. I would most likely have to pay for upgrades such as the bedliner, sidesteps, and rear sliding window. There is also a good deal on the Ford F150 FX2 (5.3L V8) for $20k. I liked the feel of it when I drove it, and it already comes with upgraded upholstery, bedliner, sidesteps, and rear sliding window.

I would appreciate any information or input. Such as, which do you prefer, which is more reliable, etc. The vehicle I’m using right now is a 2000 Honda CR-V and I’ve never had any problems with it. I really value the reliability. I’m looking for that same reliability from the truck I purchase.

A: I’ve owned of the ford f-150 and the silverado 1500’s

My business used these half ton pickups on a daily basis. What i found was the Silverado’s were less costly when it came to maintenance and operation.

So much money difference in the operation, repair and maintenance that i removed the fords from my fleet of 7 trucks entirely.

The silverado is great truck especially with that 5.3L engine. When i sold my business last year I had 3 2000 silverados in the fleet all with upwards of 253,000 miles on each.

Just before i sold them I had compression tests run on all the fleet and my 2000 silverados with that 5.3L engine all tested very strong and was told that i should be able to get another 150,000 miles on them before an overhaul was needed. Getting 400,000 miles on a half ton pickup is great especially with no major repair costs.

If it were me I’d do the Silverado 1/2 ton with the 5.3L engine over the ford.

I have mine in the drive way right now. I love it.

A: I have an 06 extended cab with tubular assist steps. Looking to sell them as the lease is over next month. Anyway, most of these steps use the bolts for the frame. Remove them, hold step up to hole and reinstall, no drilling or welding needed.

Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: Where to start on upgrading a ‘93 Chevy 1500 4×4?
We just got a ‘93 Silverado 4×4 in a trade, and want to upgrade it some to get the most out of it. I’m asking on behalf of my brother, so i don’t know the truck terms he does, but he says he wants electronic lockers for it so he can engage them and make it unstoppable in the snow. We also have been thinking about some light upgrades to the engine. It currently has headers and a cold-air intake, but I don’t know if ‘93 is new enough to be computer-controlled enough to have any chips or programmers that will unlock power. We live in iowa so emissions don’t matter. Gas is cheap, and we have other vehicles for commuting, so MPG isn’t a big deal either.

What are some upgrades to the drivetrain or intake/ignition that would be affordable on this truck? I think we’re looking at spending maybe $1000 total. Reliability is a very important thing for this truck, since our last project truck lost all reliability and now is for sale. This needs to remain streetable, so we’d rather not mess with the cam and valvetrain like we did on the other truck, or change the fuel system so much it is tough to get it to run right.

A big question is what type of V8 does this have? It’s almost certainly a 350, but we are clueless to identifying block types. LS1, LT1, Gen1, they all come up on a summit racing parts search for this 1500, so i dunno. We know it’s the original engine.
High octane premium gas offers zero performance increase over normal gas in vehicles with standard compression and aspiration. I’m not familiar with truck drivelines, but i know internal combustion. The only reason for high octane fuel is to combat detonation, which doesn’t happen in a stock compression engine with 89 octane fuel, so it serves no purpose.

You might as well have said to add flame stickers.

A: If you want to start with some really basic stuff, start with a new air filter from K&N. While you are on the K&N site, take a look and see if they have any air intakes for the truck. Also head on over to the Cherry Bomb website and take a look at exhaust systems. A cat-back with glass-pack mufflers should do the trick. Premium plugs and fluids also do wonders for little cash. That should get you started.

Go on over to jcwhitney.com or get ahold of their catalog and just browse to your heart’s content. That’ll give you more ideas on how to spend money. Also, a 93 should have a computer.

Q: wheel fitment for chevy / dodge?
i found some rims for sale that were taken off of a 2004 Dodge ram 2500
i was wondering if these will fit me 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 HD ( 8 lug )

let me know
thanks
cole

A: it should. both patterns are 8 on 165mm. the hub centre might be different

Q: new truck cracked gasket?
i want to buy this new chevy silverado. its actually a 2004 its kinda fixed up and has wheels tires lift shocks sound system and blue book values it at 17,000 and he could probably actually get about 19,000 but he is selling it for 14,000. he says he has to pay off credit cards and the loan on it and has another car, gas is too much, etc…but he says to tell you the truth a year ago he had a head gasket crack which was replaced and will show me paperwork. so you think he is just trying to sale it cheap to sale it fast to get out of payments cause he cant afford them (hes a college student) or you think somethin is wrong. im thinking about asking him to go with me to the dealership to have an inspection , i would hate to buy it and have the engine blow or somethin he says the fix on the cracked head was 1500. so idk whats your opinion?

A: Stear clear of this truck. Think about it. Colledge kid, pimped out the truck, admits to a head gasket issue. I’ll bet he has been pounding the hell out of this truck and wants out because it is starting to act up on him. If he had a craked head gasket then it was likely because he overheated the truck and did the damage then.
Stay away!
