I bought a used Chevy Silverado pu, and was curious if it has keyless entry capabilities. Would I find this with a VIN search, or is it a dealer only pay them $100 for the answer type of question? Thanks for any help!

A: Please call your local chevrolet dealers parts dept.They will ask for the last 8 numbers of your VIN.They will use these numbers in there parts computer and tell you if your silverado came factory with key-less entry.If your silverado has factory key-less entry you can buy one or more remotes online and program them with the instructions that come with the remotes and save big over dealers cost.Best of luck.

What should i check for when inspecting the truck? i have no experience with diesel trucks so i need to know what to look for. It has the 6.6 diesel V8, automatic transmission, 4 wheel drive, with 95,000 miles on it. im plaining to do a carfax history check on the truck as well.

A: When looking at a diesel, 95,000 miles should not be a concern. Diesels run well over 200,000 miles (400,000) before a rebuild is necessary. (not 100% sure on the Duramax longevity but should be up there) That engine is probably barely broke in or not. The automatic transmission and drivetrain is my main concern when looking at a vehicle. Appearance is important, usually if it looks rough on the outside it more or less has not be well maintained, or worked really hard. But not every time. If there is maintenance records that is a good sign of being maintained well. Inspect the u-joints, driveshafts, rearends. Most importantly test drive it, make sure that trans shifts. I assume being a diesel it has the GM Allison 5 speed. If so im already happy, but still test drive it, make sure everything works(4×4 in and out ect) Check for leaks, tire condition and inspect the engine for leaks or issues. Exhaust is not a big deal, but check it anyway. Last thing you want to do is buy a vehicle you have to replace stuff on or work on yourself!! Combine all this with your report and it should help you make a quick decision. Good Luck!!

Q: Looking at buying a used Chevy Silverado 6.5L Turbo Diesel 246k Miles.?
It has an extended cab it is a stick shift 4X4. any idea on how long i can expect the engine to last? also any idea on the MPG City/Highway? year is 1994. anyone who has owned this truck before have any opinion? (I dont want to hear “chevy is crap” i want actual opinions from owners.

A: I can thuroughly anwser this, as i have a 2000 gmc 6.5L The biggest problem is the crankshaft shatters if you drive it too hard without warming it up. The pump mounted driver also failes due to overheating because of poor placement in the motor, just move it and that will prevent issues, usually. I have had it for 8 months only to replace a starter ($240). I get 14-18 mpgs, but mine was modified, so it might hurt the mpgs, i hear lots of people get 17-low twenties. Now i don’t know anything about the manual, because i have a 4L80e automatic transmission, so certianly youll get better mileage than me. Its certainly no competitor with Cummins, or Powerstroke, but it certainly is the most affordable of the three. The thing thats bugging me the most, is no one in my area knows these diesels very well, so i take it to the specialist in town, and also, there i really no modifications, or performance add ons, like the chip programmers. Any diesel engine can usually last a good 300k. But regualar matience, and synthetic fluids will give you much more engine life.

I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat on weekends and a trailer to haul wood in the winter. The tires have been rotated at 20K because the front tires were wearing quicker then the rear tires. I had it in for inspection and the front tires are almost to the threads on the inside only in the front any guess as to what may be causing it?
I bought the truck new, the tires are not wearing even only on the insides, I never even noticed it until I took it in for inspecton. However I have felt something in the steering when I go around turns especially.

I just bought a used 2005 Chevy Silverado and my speedometer is going alot higher than i am actually going and i have no warranty. Is there any way i can fix it???

A: There may be a “Special Policy” in place where the cluster may be replaced under a 7 year, 75,000 mile extension of the warranty. Check with your local GM dealer and see if your vehicle will qualify.

If not, the replacement clusters are around $400 and it will have to be programmed at the dealer.

I am looking for a read end for a 1999 Chevy Silverado 4 wheel drive 5.3. I need the 410 gears , 10 bolt GTS. IMy husband has looked all over and this is the last thing we need to finish our truck. A: A good salvage yard could search others if they did not have one. My recomendation would be to just have yours regeared, 4:10’s will go on the carrier in yours, assuming it doesn’t have 2:73’s which I don’t believe were available in the trucks. Don’t forget since it’s a 4×4 the front gears need to match the rears or you’ll drive sideways a lot and wreck the transfer case
