Q: What years of Chevy Trucks are interchangeable with a 1991 Silverado 1500?
I’ve got a 1991 Silverado 1500. I need to replace the front grille, bumber, tailgate a door and a fender. What years of Chevy Trucks are interchangeable for these items?

A: 88-98

Q: Chevy trucks?
Whats the pros and cons between the chevy scottsdale and silverado? whats the difference?

A: Silverado is the top of the line…..LT or LS being the most equipped. Many have the Z71 suspension package; bigger springs and shocks.

Q: chevy trucks?

A: ford is the way to go!!!

Q: How to convert 60-66 chevy trucks to disc brakes?
There is an article on sale on ebay that describes how to convert the front drum brakes of 60-66 chevy pickups to newer disk brakes. They claim to use all hardware from other model trucks so no need to buy any brand new parts…just a junkyard visit. Does anyone know how and what parts are needed to do this?

A: i had a 67 chevy longbed that was very early produced and put disk brakes on it, go to the junkyard and get 73 to 79 disk brake front end, just swap the front end parts and use the 72 master cyl and lines. they worked for mine. you can go even further and swap the front crossmember but there is a few holes you have to redrill to do that. pretty easy swap. what helped me figure that out was looking at a company’s catalogue called brothers chevy parts, dont remember the website but they looked exactly like my 73 chev truck frontend, hope that helps

Q: Chevy Trucks??????????????????
So i’m getting a 2002 avalanche for my first car it has 130k. it’s for 5 grand and i’m paying for half

but i know the seats go down to open up to the truck caro part. but does the glass go down to or up.

and it has a cover to cover up the pick up part. Can that be put up easily to or not?

A: There ara cam locks on each side of window it stores in panel that folds down. The covers on the bed pull off one section at a time with a flip of a lever on each side.

Q: can i use the throttle body from my 89 chevy trucks original moto when swapping out the motor with a GMC?
I have pulled my v-6 motor out of a 1989 chevy truck and want to replace it w/ a GMC JIMMY v-6 motor. But the GMC is a tuned-port fuel injection. Would it be possible to just use the throttle body/ fuel injection system from the original motor in place of the tuned-port?

A: depending on the year of the new motor…

If it has true Vortec heads, your TBI intake wont bolt up to the heads.

Q: Why do all Chevy trucks have 1 parking light burned out?
Why do Chevy trucks all have 1 parking light burned out? I’ve been seeing this for the last 10 years. Why don’t they fix it? Frank

A: Kind of rural where you live isn’t it? Only one Chevy pickup in the county?

Q: New chevy trucks how do they switch from a v8 to a v6?
I can’t remember what it’s called or what chevy truck that has it, but they have made it so the truck starts out as a v8 to get up to power then turns off 2 cylinders to make it a v6 to cruise around. Can anyone tell me what it is to look it up or explain to me how it does it because it just really confuses me and I just like knowing how stuff works.

A: Booge 4 right on the money. It’s so smooth you don’t notice the switch and the fuel mileage is much improved I got 22.9 highway.

Q: How are the headlights removed from 2007 Chevy trucks?
The 07 Chevys and GMC trucks have a redesigned grill and headlight system and I’d like to know how many bolts, the locations, and the fastest way to remove them. I need to remove them to install a Western snowplow.
The 2007 is not a pin style- it has bolts hidden behind the grill and fender to remove. If you don’t have experience with 2007 don’t answer.

A: you need to find the screws or pins that hold them in place, like most cars

Q: Does anybody who knows about chevy trucks can help me resolve my problem with my truck?
I have a 1994 chevy silverado 5.7L V8 that is having problems because it doesnt start, i already change the sparks and wires, new battery, new fuel pump, new distributor cap and rotor and just won’t start!! any ideas of what the problem might is?

A: You need to find out if it’s fuel or spark related, does it have spark at the plug? is there fuel pressure? is the ECM receiving a signal from the crank sensor?
Just because you replaced the fuel pump doesn’t mean the pump is working, you can have a open fuse, open relay, bad ground, open wire to the pump.
you need to determine if it’s spark or a fuel problem, and post results,
that way our help will be geared towards the problem.

I can tell you to replace more parts, but I think you threw enough parts at it.

Q: Where can I find free online repair manuals for chevy trucks?
I have a 95 Chevy S-10 with a 4 wheel drive problem.

A: http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r=http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0geu..X9HZHWKgA3ghXNyoA?p=free+online+repair+manual+chevy+truck&fr=yfp-t-501&ei=UTF-8

Q: how can some stock chevy trucks out run corvets?
id be looking on youtube and myspace and there will be stock chevy truck zooming away with vets like no problem. some winning and less some loosing.

A: It isn’t a stock truck, it is a stock LOOKING truck.

The truck could be modded to easily beat a Vette, but still look like your normal everyday plywood hauler. I’ve seen a couple 1/2-ton SB 2wd trucks with LT1s and they can really run from stop light to stop light.

Q: where can I find free wiring diagrams for 88′ chevy trucks?
I just bought an 88′ chevy K2500 and the previous owner got pretty creative with the wiring. I just spent half a day looking for a connection that came apart. I found it but would like to start replacing all the wiring. Just need a reference to follow so I do it right. Thanks.

A: Try the library. Automotive section. For 88 chev trucks. Scan thru the books. Most should have a wiring diagram that you can follow. You either can borrow the book out or photocopy the pages you need.

Q: Why are rear shocks on most Chevy trucks at different angles?
Look at any 95-99 Tahoe, Silverado etc. and most likely the rear shocks are angled differently. The passenger side shock is attatched at the top forward of the differential and the drivers side shock is attatched at the top rear from the dif. Im curious if I did like Dodge and manuf. some brackets to angle them in line with the dif and out if Id get better ride quality????

A: Yeah that’s the design of it to keep the rear axle centered for ride quality. The rear sway bar is opposite of the shocks so it balances out. It compensates for more torque on the passenger side rear wheel due to the design of the differential

Q: How many Chevy trucks and cars are sold annually in the US?
I just watched a Chevrolet ad on televison. It stated that the company sold a Chevrolet car in the US every 12 seconds and I’m a little skeptical. Thanks in advance.

A: It is hard to get the information in one place. General Motors (which includes Chevrolet, of course), has different definitions of trucks (mini-vans, large trucks, small trucks, etc.) and so many versions of their cars that you would have to get the figures and total them all together. Half the time they just list General Motors, without separating Chevrolet sales out of the whole sum.

Q: new chevy truck had a bunch of black smoke from its tailpipe?
i think it was a 2007 model truck but every time it accelerated, black smog would shoot out. its most likely oil burning, but what caused this, especially with it being so new?

A: If diesel, dirty air filter, clogged injectors, Injector body out of time, bad fuel. Not normal under any circumstances. I have a 3.0 turbo Diesel 4X4 2 1/2 years and it doesn’t smoke.

NOTE; That new get it back to the dealer under warranty

Q: What do you think of the new Chevy truck?
I think it’s one of the first woking truck, US made that can run of an alternative fuel, and is capable of not running on all cylinders for fuel efficency. If you had the money would you buy one, because of those qualities?

A: It’s OK if you like those features and you like the new look. Ford and Chevy have been making flex fuel vehicles for several years now. GM, Ford, and Chrysler have had cylinder de-activation technologies for years. The interior and sheet metal are new, that’s pretty much it.

I think the best thing about the new Chevys is that GM is finally turning around its marketing approach and cranking out good commercials with Mellencamp’s music.

Just don’t buy any new vehicle in its first model year. In the first model year every part is supplied by the lowest bidder without regard to quality. The problems don’t get worked out till at least a year or two later.

Q: How can I get my new Chevy truck to last at least 200,000 miles?
It is a 2007 Chevy Silveraldo with the 6.0 V-8. What are some of the things I can do to get it to last 200,000 miles, maybe even 300,000?

A: * Follow the maintenance guide in your owner’s manual and make needed repairs promptly.
* Use only the recommended types of fluids, including oil and transmission fluids.
* Check under the hood regularly. Listen for strange sounds, sniff for odd smells and look for fraying or bulges in pipes or belts. Also, get a vehicle service manual. They’re available at most auto parts stores or your dealership.
* Clean the car carefully inside and out. This not only helps the car’s appearance but can prevent premature rust. Vacuuming the inside also prevents premature carpet wear from sand and grit.
* Use only the best Synthetic Oil, Amsoil being
my oil of choice. 0W-30 is good for 25,000 miles when used with thier filters.

Q: What web site will let you find the real price of a new chevy truck?

A: try the Kelly Blue Book website.
http://www.kbb.com/
Just enter in the Year, Make, Model, Options and Conditions.

Q: how to unlock a stereo on a new chevy truck 2008?
i bought a Chevy stereo for my truck but when i installed the phrase locked show up so i want to now can i unlocked my self

A: No, you can’t unlock it yourself, unless you work for a dealer. The radio is programmed with the VIN (the specific serial number to each car/truck) and if the one in the radio doesn’t match the one in the BCM (body control module) then the radio will not work until it is programmed with the new VIN.

NICE*** You’re an idiot, in 2002 YOU COULD UNLOCK IT YOURSELF, simply by entering the unlock code with the hour and minute buttons..very simple procedure. BUT the new radios aren’t set up that way! THEY HAVE THE VIN programmed into them LIKE I SAID! I do this for a living EVERY DAY! so don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about!

Q: Anyone hear of a brand new Chevy truck overheating?
The manual says that it is not uncommon.
It didn’t overheat, but the temp. gauge did go beyond the 210 degree line by about two or three lines and stayed there for a while, for those who were interested. But thats for the feedback, I will contact my dealer, just thought it may have been a semi-common problem.

A: Nope. I have a 2001 with 225,000 miles and it has never overheated.
I’m not sure how much you know about these, but for the newer (99 up) silverado V8s, 185 degrees is perfectly normal running temp. A good bit higher than the older ones, but its supposed to make them more responsive. Is that what you are referring to? Or is it severely in the red zone overheating? Even so, I’m not familiar with them having such a problem, and while I’m no mechanic, I’m very familiar with GM trucks.

Q: How often do I change the oil in a new truck?
I just bought a new Chevy truck. How often should I change the oil during the first year. Any other precautions with a new engine that I should be aware of?

A: i own a repair shop, and id change it every 3-5 thousand miles ,don’t go over that, other than that you should be fine, and with a new vehicle ,just use good common sense, and do your self a favor, get the owners manual and read it,this is a good book to read,if you,ll set down and read the whole book it will tell you when you need to change the oil as well as where all the fuses are located at,and which ones to use in it,most people sit back and don’t have the slightest clue of what to do when a fuse blows, read the book and you,ll know all this stuff and more, and it has in it a real good maintenance schedule also, good luck with it enjoy it while its new,i hope this help,s.

Q: i have a 1989 Chevy truck and new jasper engine and new exhaust and it failed the emissions test?
the nox is to hi it is 18.58 had a hi flow catalytic converter put on it. it was a hi flow one and it was 3.84 the new one was a regular one the next day it was higher to the 18.58nox level what can i do now please help? the engine has Les then 6000 miles on it. its not a bad engine is it?

A: no its not a bad engine, but was it bored out or anything that would cause it to run more compression, that could affect the levels your seeing from it,i got one of their 350,s and its bored and has a cam in it,and it doesn’t run that high, that engine should be broken in good too,id try having it scanned real good, and see if anything comes up on a scanner, you may have a bad throttle body on it causing it to load up,it shouldn’t run no where near that high, something is causing it to load up,if you have a scanner run the scan on it at different times, and see what happens to it,it may change from the time it gets hot to a cooler time, that’s about all i know to tell you ,except make sure the timing is set exactly right on it,that will affect it a lot, mine runs real good and clean so yours should also,i have a throttle body injection, but try testing it a different temperatures and see if it changes, good luck with it.

Q: Losing oil pressure on my 1999 chevy truck. Should i get a new motor for my truck? What should I do.?
My truck has a lot of miles on it, can’t afford to buy a new truck right now. it is losing oil pressure sometime like early in the mornings.
When it warms up then it is ok.
What should I do to fix that problem?

A: If it only does it when cold and it’s ok when warm, then it’s NOT the oil pump. It’s not a bad bearing. Either you have a bad sending unit or your oil filter is partially plugged. Change the filter. Don’t buy a cheap brand. If the problem persists, change the sending unit.

Q: 1956 chevy truck and new frame to put under it?
im bulding a 1956 chevy truck and i need to know what type of frame would i be better off putting under it i already have built my chevy 454 big block and im stuck on the frame i generally only dabble in engines and i decided to do the whole thing this time just looking for suggestions thank you.

A: Measure your wheel base and see what matches the closest. Probably a Blazer or tahoe maybe a short bed pick-up.

Q: 97 Chevy truck new battery alternator and starter will crank turn of then 10 min later will not start up agai
new battery alternator and starter will crank turn of then 10 min later will not start up again what is the problem with it?

please help me!!!!!!!!!!

A: More info guy. 10 minutes later, it wont start or it doesnt “crank”?
If it cranks ok ch ign, spark, spark color, module pulses, sounds like a hot soak problem

Q: what 2007 Chevy truck has the same motor as the new Toyota truck? (Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota Matrix)?
Chevy Prism was a Toyota Corolla. Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota Matrix. New GMC or Chevy trucks have the same equivalent Toyota model but which GMC or Chevy trucks have this Toyota equivalent? Please list all possible. Thanks !

A: I agree with the Vibe to Matrix and Prism to Corolla, but the Gm trucks do not share any components with the Toyota Tundra’s to my knowledge.

Q: I want to trade my 2006 truck for a Chevy avalanche. Is it worth rolling money into the new one?
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 hemi.It has 69000 miles on it. I’m thinking about trading it in to get a new chevy avalanche.i do a lot of traveling so It would be nice to have one that has a longer warranty. I might have to roll in about $7000.00 into the new truck. Is this a bad move to make? is there any advise any one can give me about this deal?

A: I will give you the following points and allow you to decide for yourself.

1) If you do a lot of traveling, you’re probably putting more hiway miles than city, which means less wear and tear on your powertrain.

2) The reason you’re going to have to roll $7k into the new truck, is because trucks have really, really, god-awful resale value. So if the Avalanche costs $30k, and you’re rolling $7k into the loan (assuming 0 down), that’s a $37k loan. Once you drive off the lot, the truck is now worth $18k (40% depreciation). You will continue to be upside down on that loan for a long time.

3) A Chevy Avalanche does not have the towing/ hauling capabilities of a hemi powered Dodge, but is more reliable.

Q: Ford Truck vs Chevy Truck gettin a new truck? need advise?
I im going to sell my 87 chevy pickup becuase its to new and its nothin special. I was thinkin of geting an older truck thats easier to work(more simple) on and that would be my work truck, and it has to be a 3/4 ton pick up(i dont want anything new so dont tell me to get a new one). a 70s era Ford truck or a 70s era Chevy truck(or GMC). Which one is more dependible, tuffer, more powerful, towes more, can handle more abuse(towin/offroadin occasionally), I think the Ford pickup would be best because thier c6 transmissions i hear are really TUFF, their 360 is a strong motor, plus i always see fords on loggin shows(even in the 70s movies), I NEVER see a chevy or gmc. i feel chevys are more of a hot rod truck that cant do the stuff a ford can. PLEASE I need advise, anything would be helpful and much appriciated

A: If you want something different than your ‘87 that’s a GM product, it will have to be a ‘72 or older. GM produced the style you have from ‘73-’87 (‘91 if it’s a Blazer, Suburban or Crew Cab pickup) with mainly just cosmetic and emission equipment changes. I can tell you from experience that the GM trucks from that era handle and ride much better than Ford products until about 1984 or so. I have a ‘78 GMC k35 Crew Cab that I use to tow my 40 foot car trailer and my wife’s 32 foot horse trailer with. It has a built 454 (still the original block crank and rods) a 5 speed from a newer 1 ton and 4.10 gears. I’ve owned it since 1984 and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m not saying a Ford is a bad choice or that they can’t do the same job. I just prefer my GMC. My father in law had a ‘76 F-250 for a long time and it just didn’t handle like my GMC even after I completely rebuilt the front end. He drives GM trucks now but still has the old ford for his farm truck.

A: Wrecking yard?

Craigslist?

Try driving through the country and take a peek by old barns… if you see one go knock on the door and ask if the farmer wants to ditch his ‘ole gal… For a price of course.

Q: where can i find used chevy trucks for sale?
years 1988 to 1998 with prices from $100 to $2700

A: Go to AutoTrader.com and you can input that exact set of search parameters (select the pickup truck option), as well as how far you are willing to travel to buy one. I just did a nationwide sample search returning over 500 vehicles.

Q: I have a truck for sale and have never done this before. Its a 1981 Chevy.?
It still runs. has 4 very good tires and I just need to get rid of it. I am thinking about posting $300 bucks on it and selling it. Do I just sign over the title to the new buyer or what?

A: I would think that if it runs good unless looks really bad would be worth at least 500 so start aking 700 and let the person talk you down 200 if he wants but do not come out and say I’ll take 500. If he says will you take less say not sure and make him work to get down any. Yes in most places there is a spot on the back of the title to sign. Make out 2 bill of sales. One for you and one for him. Any paper. I __________ sell one 1981 chevy to ______ vin# ___________ for the price of _____ to __________ in as is condition. Both of you sign and date both copies. This way if something happens to the car you can say it was not mine after this date.

Q: wherre i can buy chevy blazer pick up truck military for sale in columbus ohio the y should be use car indo?

A: Good choice in cars, but hard to find. Just thought I’d let you know that the truck is the better bet. My buddy Ian in Tulsa just bought a ‘70 Nova from an old lady that “just wanted to get rid of it” she said and he paid $5k for it and it’s a virtual basket case. Good luck in your search nevertheless.

Check the local bargain post or online at traderonline.com, it may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but there’s always something there.

Q: I have a truck for sale, no takers, you know anyone who wants to buy?
Its a 1996 chevy s-10. The a/c doesnt work(needs new compressor) I think its needs a new starter. Has 177,000 mile son it but the engine was rebuilt at 55,000 so actually only 122,000 on this engine. Little rust. Kelly blue book has it listed at 2500. Anyone need a reliable truck?
Central Ohio

A: put it on
www.craigslist.org
it will sell if price is right

Q: a 1981 full size 4×4 chevy truck, king cab, got 1 for sale?

A: no but i do have a 80 chevy 4×4 for sale with a 454 in it

Q: How much should i sale my truck for?
I have a 1979 Chevy C10 Pick up it has the original 15′ rally sport wheels, a brand new windsheild, spare tranny, tow package, brand new front brakes including calipers, roaters and everything else, a campershell, the back end brakes are 2 years old, theres the usual rust spots, and the bodies sinking on the left side a little bit, it has a v8 engine, its a great work truck, i was thinking 1200 or 1000

A: I would say with the current market for pickups, yours is maybe worth $500. There are a lot of them for sale in better shape for $800-$1000.

Q: I need a website for private sales of used trucks.?
One that is not Craigslist or Auto Trader.com. Thanks for the help. I’m looking for a used GMC or Chevy truck for under $2000. Any help is much appreciated!
P.S >> I forgot to mention I live in NH!!

A: You can try
Good luck!

Q: should I buy a motorcycle or keep my truck?
OK, I have a 1995 chevy truck with a camper. It gets 22 mpg, but its starting to lose oil and has a radiator leak somewhere in the system. But I own it free and clear, and I am a musician so it’s great for hauling my instruments on the rare occasion that I play out. It’s worth about $3,500 – if only because of the national and Texas cash-for-clunkers programs.

But I adore motorcycles, and my husband brought up the idea of selling my truck and buying a used motorcycle for about $2k, with a net profit from the sales, and then saving on gas and insurance.

So, do the potential cost benefits (and the fun) of riding a motorcycle outweigh a decent truck that I already have that is starting to have mechanical problems? I can’t make up my mind and it’s driving me NUTS! Help!

A: If you have other means of hauling your instruments around, then get the motorcycle. But if you really need the truck then keep it. I’d rather get the motorcycle though.

Q: Looking to buy first truck soon, want some info…?
looking for 1995-2000 chevy 1500 ext. cab 4×4

i like the truck, found some decent 95-96 around me for 5 grand one had 98,000 miles on it and looked clean from the pics

i chose chevy because i used to work at uhaul and those fords will be the death of me, also dodges dont appeal to me unless someone has otherwise outlooks

what should i look for out side of the basics that my dad has taught me over the years since he and i both do our own mechanic work, our cars havent seen a shop in quite some time

thanks in advance

also if you live in iowa and have a chevy listed above for sale, within the next few months i plan to buy one so i can fix my warm months car since the engine finally gave out

A: I would not spend that much on a truck that old. Although it does have lower miles, there are still problems with age especially with chevys made in those years. If I were you, I would just get an s10. They have the best engines, good on gas, and you can get 4×4 if you choose so.

Q: Pros and Cons on 03-06 Chevy Silverado’s?
I’m getting my first truck and I can’t decide which one. Which chevy silverado should I go for?

http://www.carsforsale.com/used_cars_for_sale/2003_Chevrolet_C1500_110074827_30
i hate when they dont tell you the price. even if you email them

http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/Chevrolet-Silverado+1500-cars327358924
Which would be the 2 wise picks?

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: Which one of these cars would be a good 1st car?
1987 Chevy truck

http://galveston.craigslist.org/cto/1693784010.html

1976 bronco

http://www.carsforsale.com/used_cars_for_sale/1976_FORD_BRONCO_97182155

VW dune bug

http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1686955784.html

ya, i like the unusual and unpractical.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Are the older 83-97 Chevy/GMC C/K 1500 good trucks?
Would like to get a regular cab with short or long box. Would be used as a daily driver as well as hauling light to moderate, rarely heavy loads of dirt, gravel, tools, furniture and other stuff. I’ve looked at some of the compact pickups, some of them burn just as much fuel as the full size. I’m 6′3″ so the full size is just right.

Would never use to tow. I have thought about the 4.3L V6 and 5.7L V8. I have been told that the 4.3L will burn about as much as the 5.7L V8. If that’s true, I’m all for it. It makes sense that the bigger 5.7L engine won’t have to work as hard as the 4.3L.

I’ve had a few people tell me they get about 14mpg (17L/100km) with 5.7L V8. That’s pretty good. I used to own a Dodge Dakota that had a 3.9L V6 with 5spd that didn’t have much power and it would use the same amount of fuel. My experience with the V6 engine are a big compromise.

What would be the difference between the two engines driving in the city/highway and mixed driving empty and with some weight? I’m thinking the 4.3L V6 may get worse gas mileage with loaded bed than the 5.7L V8. Is it worth it to go to the 4.3L V6 or be better to just skip it and go with the V8?

Here in Canada where I live, the roads are no flat and straight like most of the U.S. roadways. There are alot of hills, mountains, etc..

I’m not sure If I should get one with the non vortec throttle body injected, or multiport injected vortec engine. The TBI looks more simple. Was 1995 the last year of the TBI.
I’ve been told that the TBI is more reliable than vortec with less clutter under the hood.

The majority of these trucks that I’ve seen are automatic. It’s hard to find one with a manual transmission unless it’s 4.3L,I guess automatic is probably reliable.

I have never owned a GM truck, How do you guys like your trucks?

I’ve found a few for sale. To name a couple would be an
1997 Chevy C1500 2wd shortbox with 4.3L 5spd manual, 210,000km
1991 Chevy C1500 2wd longbox with 5.7L TBI and auto, 220,000km

Thanks.

A: Your two trucks in question is the 88-98 body style. The 83-87 was the older style.

For the drive train:
1995 was the last year of the TBI (Throttle Body Injected) 5.0L and 5.7L V8. The Vortec V8 began in 1996.

If I remember correctly, 1992-1995 the 4.3L V6 was CPFI (Centeral Port Fuel Injected). In 1996 also gained the Vortec heads and SCPI (Sequential Central Port Injection).

The automatic transmission used was the 4L60 until 1992. In 1993, the 4L60E began use. The ‘E’ designates electronic control, meaning that the engine control module also controls the shifting of the transmission.

Body changes:
I think it was 1993 when the driver’s side airbag was available.

I know that 1996 was the first year of the passenger side airbag on the half-ton trucks.

Rear wheel ABS was available on the early models. I think 4-wheel ABS was standard in ‘96… I know that it was standard in 1997.

1997 was the first year that the 3rd door on the extended cab was an option (if you end up getting an extended cab).

The manual transmissions are more common on the 95′ and older models (any motor). Since you say you live in hilly terrain, I would go for the 5.7L motor; the extra power is going to prove its worth!

If you can, wait for a ‘96+ model. The Vortec motor is rated for more HP and torque than the previous TBI unit.

Common problems on these trucks are;
IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. Seem more problematic on the TBI motors.

Fuel pumps. Pump is located inside the fuel tank; requires removal of tank or bed to access. Pre-mature failure caused by running tank low on fuel, the fuel acts as a heat sink to cool the pump. Keep tank above 1/4 full whenever possible.

Intake manifold gasket (1996+ models). The redesign of the vortec heads and intake manifold is prone to leaking coolant. Loss is usually to the outside of the motor, but is possible that coolant is ingested. Replace intake manifold gasket and use proper RTV during replacement to fix problem.

Many people may gripe about the automatic transmissions being weak. I believe that many of these failures are caused by driver error. The 4L60E is a very good trans. Just lock it out of overdrive on long hills or while hauling/pulling (if it shifts excessively between 3rd and 4th).

I have a ‘97, and I absolutely love my truck. It has been great to me. I maintain it religiously and don’t beat on it.

Q: Do I have to pay sales tax on a vehicle in Houston TX that I plan to resale?
I have recently purchased a 2005 Chevy 2500HD for $11,300 in the state of Maryland that I am waiting to have shipped down to Houston TX. I purchased the truck under the assumption that I was losing my company car. Recently I have found out that I get to keep my company car and have no use for the Chevy truck. NADA trade in on the truck is $19,300.00. I safely feel I can at least break even or mostly make a profit on the truck. I plan on receiving the truck in Houston and then immediately resale the vehicle. I will take it to Carmax if I have to. Is there a way to get around paying the 6.25% sales tax on purchased vehicles if I strictly resale the truck? i.e. – I do not title it in my name, or I obtain a resale certificate, or etc…???
THANKS!

A: I am not sure about in TX, but in my state you have to have a tax id in order to purchases things with the purpose of resale and not pay taxes on them. You would however have to pay sales take when you sold it if this is the case.

Hope this helps! Good luck!!

Q: In market for a used vehical, please Help?
My S10 Chevy Blazer was buried in salt water and won’t work right. I need something reliable thats inspectable in Rhode Island Emmisions, I’m willing to pay no more than $1500.00 Anyone out there have any localized vehicles for sale, preferably a wagon, or something I can throw a lawnmower in the back of like a jeep/truck or something…

A: I was going to tell you about craigslist, but Ian F beat me to it.
craigslist is a great resource for anybody looking to buy or sell.
I now use it more than ebay. (as it is free to post AND the ads are from your local area…)

BTW, this post put me at 7K points

Q: *CAR SALES EXPERTS* Used car loan help!! We were offered “17%” from dealer. What to do?
Looking to trade a couple of cars and need help!!
>1st up we are looking to trade a 2005 Kia Sorento for a 2007 Nissan Titan. We are getting $11,695 for Kia but owe $15,193 thus going in the hole $3,500 right off. We are getting the truck for $16,995 but overall we have got to finance $22,000. They got us payments of $487.74 w/ 17% rate!!
>2nd trade is a 2007 Ford Focus for a 2008 chevy cobalt. ford getting 12,200 for and owe 12,200. Cobalt getting for 13,000 with payments of $318 with the 17% rate as well. ???? Does this sound good?? Getting screwed. Would it be smarter to go through a different company for financing? We have pretty crappy credit though. No bankruptcy or nothing.
Well, why I feel it is needed to trade is the kia has 80,000 miles on it and we owe 15,000 still. I just pretty much know it won’t last it through that.

And the car is a straight and my wife has tried and tried and tried and can not drive it. I need to use the 4×4 at times and she needs to be able to drive my car.

Thus really don’t have many other options.

A: don’t trade either car in, every time you trade you get deeper in debt and upside down. you create a vicious cycle that will never help you get better credit or pay down the car loans because so much of the payment is going towards interest. Check to see how much interest will go towards the payment it will make you sick. If the cars are running well keep them don’t fall into a financial trap you can never get out of. A couple of years from now you will want to trade the truck in and the payoff will still be 22k

Q: stock alternator for 2000 watt amplifier?
well I am still findind the best solution.

I have 2000 watts rms cea certified with one yellow top, 0 gauge allaround, and big 3.

I heard from a sales represenative that he once had 4 batteries and only the stock alternator, all this for 4 amplifiers….he won several bass competitions.

I also heard from another tech. he installed 4 12″ subs for a chevy truck and he got 3 batteries extra on the guy’s truck and he used the stock alternator.

I heard from several places that I should not add batteries because it was never good to add batteries because it will add another load to the “overworked” alternator. but what is going on, with these people that do add extra batteries and have booming bass.

it makes sense that you can obtain current and voltage from one battery, and from two you should be able to as twice as much and so on………..

I also understand that it should take a better charge to keep two batteries charged,

so people have done 3 and 4 extra batteries
so there are places online specially www.4alterstart.com where they have for about 500 bucks, these 275 amp alternator and there are a many local places here where I live where I can buy 2 more extra optima yellow top for 400 bucks.

what should I do to make feed my system properly??

(I only listen to my radio when the engine running )

should I add and extra or two extra batteries close to the amp?

A: you do need to upgrade your alternator. alternators are not designed to run at full power all the time. they are designed to recharge the battery from starting the engine, and run the factory accessories with a little extra room. a stock alternator will put out about 1190 watts max (about 14 volts and rated at 85 amps) there are other stock alternators with higher output, but this is pretty common.

you need a higher output alternator, and I would add another battery with an isolator (this keeps you from draining the main battery used for all of your stock accessories.) you should try to move your 2nd battery as close to your amp as possible.

you can start by just adding a second battery and an isolator, and just wait until your factory alt. goes out it will eventually, and you might not be happy where is leaves you when it does crap out.

Q: all terrain tires for my truck?
im looking for some good used or new all terrain tires for my 89 chevy blazer s-10… im really mad cause i went mudding on some street tires and got stuck up to my doors in mud… the specs on my tires are
P235/75R/15… i know the last two numbers matter but i want wider tires like about 235 to 265.. if anyone know where i can get any or has some for sale hit me up at 770 -757 -4382…. if you call ask for troy

A: You can probably fit 31 inch tires on this vehicle but they may rub and or decrease the area between the tire and the fender well. You can try 30.9″ tires or just get 235/75/15 mud tires. Give tirerack a try. Best of luck.

Q: Legal question…I bought a 2002 Chevy Tahoe for 16.5 K?
from a used car dealer. We registered it and insurured it. We paid 900.00 on sales tax. I went and got pictures for the insurance company. Then I took it to get a sticker and it didnt pass. It needed brakes and one air shock. We brought it back, the guy we bought it from said he cant afford to fix it, so we have to pay half. Now this car has a 30 day warranty, it should of been looked at before we bought it. I have 3 children and not alot of time and money to get my money back and wait for the 900.00 for the sales tax and no time to look for another one. I have been driving my husband pickup truck and it has screwed my whole wk up because i have to get him from work. What can I legally do in this situation?

A: you bought the car as is and with all faults, however since you bought it at a dealership he is responsible for a current inspection sticker. (If it was not current in the month you bought it – he would have to pay to bring it up) -
You said you have a 30 day warranty – what does it cover?

Q: Do I have rights with a CAR LOT? We bought a truck June 1st it already QUIT.?
We bought this 1998 Chevy S10 pick up for my son to get to work. We bought it at 8:30 p.m. on June 1st and my son was coming home Monday from work June 6th. And he made it with in a mile from home and it Quit. It has gas in it, has oil, all fluids are full. It just died. I called the Warranty place and they told me I have 1 week to get it fixed. And gave me 3 numbers to call to get it to the shop. I have to use the Mechanic they tell me I can use. I can only use the Wrecker service they tell me to use. I told them I did not have any money to haul it to a shop. And everytime I opened my mouth to say something the smooth talking Salesman cut me off or talked over me. I finally got Pissed and told him to Shut the Hell Up and Listen to Me. I was the one telling him what was going on with our truck He told us nothing but lies when we got the truck. Now when it goes down it is a hole nother set of lies. He said it was $6400 when we got the truck. And when the papers were finished the papers we were showed said $6428 dollars but the papers in the Glove box say $7995 after he figured everything up. He told us Sales tax would be $450 at the most. Her in Arkansas when I finally called the Revenue place it is $10 dollars on every hundred they figured it up and it will be almost $800 dollars sales tax. Plus I told him I could do a $150 a month payment when he gave us the papers the payment is $321 a month. Plus service fees. But we told them we were done with the truck now they tell us to bad drive it pay it live with what you bought and OH WE KNEW IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. Sorry we forgot to tell you that when you bought the truck. My husband told the Salesman we wanted out of the deal we just wanted our old car back and would take our business someplace else. And he said to bad SO SAD live with it. And hung Up on my husband.

A: I didn’t take time to read the entire saga, but I can tell you a couple facts. One…the “Lemon law” does NOT apply to ANY used car in ANY state ANYWHERE. Two….if you have a warranty, use it. It does not give you the option of returning the vehicle. It is only for repairs that are covered. Now you know why it is important to have a shop go over any car considered for purchase. BTW….Complaining to the BBB is an absolute waste of time. They have no power to do anything and I expect this dealer does not subscribe to their rating service anyway.

Q: good website to get used chevy truck parts?
good website to get used chevy truck parts?

A: Ebay always has chevy truck parts… Only bad part is if your looking for parts on a truck thats 1988 or newer, you have to look through a million pages of tailights.

Q: should i buy used headers for my 1978 chevy truck ?
i found a set of headers really cheap 50.00 bucks, i am a good welder, but i don’t no about buying used headers, what should i look for in headers ? and would it really make that much difference, it would be nice if the truck was a little louder, i don’t like a real load rig, but i do like to here the engine a little, you no that cool sound, this truck engine runs very quite. so i am thinking headers with cherry bombs, or maybe just bombs.

A: Dont buy them, your getting ripped. Your truck, parts are a dime a dozen, even from manufacters. If your truck has a 283, 305, 350, 383, or even a 400 (any small block) and is 2 wheel or even 4×4 your headers will run 65.00 dollars or less from summitt racing. bombs will kick such great soundwith 3″ exhaust. (little trick put the cherrys on backwords and they flow even better and louder)

Q: I know nothing about cars but I want to get a chevy truck?
Ok so I will be getting my license in October and will be buying a car in October. I want a Chevy truck (used ofcourse) can anyone tell me what the price range for these trucks are? A good estimate?
I’m savin up as much as I can right now but I just want to be sure….thanks!

A: I love Chevy trucks myself, but Rogue is right in saying that they’re gas-guzzlers.

If you want anything that runs and doesn’t have too much wrong with besides a bit of rust and a bunch of miles you’re probably looking at at least $1000, and that’s on the cheap end of things. If you’re into fixing things up you can probably find them for a bit cheaper, but then you have to factor in the cost of repairs.

Definitely look on Craigslist (www.craigslist.com). Make sure to test drive anything before you decide to buy it. Some people know how to make a piece of junk sound really good.

Best of luck!!

Q: find used trucks seats for2500 Chevy truck?

A: go to www.car-part.com
it searches all junk yards in any area

Q: I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat?
I have an 05 Chevy Silverado with 42000 miles on it, the tires are shot. The truck is used for pulling a boat on weekends and a trailer to haul wood in the winter. The tires have been rotated at 20K because the front tires were wearing quicker then the rear tires. I had it in for inspection and the front tires are almost to the threads on the inside only in the front any guess as to what may be causing it?
I bought the truck new, the tires are not wearing even only on the insides, I never even noticed it until I took it in for inspecton. However I have felt something in the steering when I go around turns especially.

A: Maybe front end out of alignment That will be a good place to start, hope this helps.

Q: Can I use Chevy truck springs (Suburban,Pick up) on a 77 Chevy Malibu?
Can I use Chevy truck springs ex.(Suburban/Pick up) on a 77 Chevy Malibu

A: illmobent, I bought a used Malibu in Maine last year and saved some cash. I haven’t had any problems yet. I only buy used cars. http://www.findusedcardealer.com

Q: where can i find quality used pickup truck beds for a 1984 chevy truck?

A: http://www.rustfreeparts.com/index.asp

or you can build one yourself since pretty much everything bolts together on those beds, and every panel is available in the aftermarket.

Q: need to find a used chevy s10extended truck high milageprice 800.00/1500.00 to buy?
within 100 miles of columbus ind47201

A: Check new car lots and ask about their trade ins, they may sell to you wholesale, also title pawns sometimes sell repos cheap.

Q: which transmission fluid do I use for a 90 Chevy truck?
The truck was used when I got it so no manual came with it. I have a Haynes but I’m still not sure what to use. I was told Dexron Mercon lll but I want to be sure since this person isn’t an expert or mechanic.

A: dextron lll or higher can be used. The newest is Vl and can be used in all previous years. It is about $7 a quart though.Mercon is for Fords.

Q: Which is a better truck the chevy avalanche,or a chevy colorado ?
I will be buying a truck soon and I like both body styles, which is better, and what year model is better.I don’t mind buying a good used truck. It has to be a chevy,my husband doesn’t like ford, and the vehicle I have now is a pontiac and we’ve had nothing but trouble and problems, and I don’t want another pontiac.

A: Well both are better but the choice varies on preference. If you are interested in having more safety features and rough and tough attitude of trucks Colorado is always a better choice. At the same time if you are looking at fuel efficiency and a classy touched expensive stuff you should select the Avalanche. Choice is yours, preference of yours, All the best.

Q: What year for the Chevy V-12 Truck motor?
What year and which model Chevy trucks used the V12 engines.
So where did Randy Grubb get the 702 C.I.D. V12 Chevy motor for the Blastolene B-702?

A: Actually, GMC did have a V12 truck engine in the early 1960’s. I’m not sure of the years produced but these engines were used in their big GMC trucks. You can find truck mechanics that will swear that GMC have never made these engines.

If you want you can GOOGLE “GMC V12″. And the Blastolene B702 does use one of these motors.

Q: where can i buy a used hood for a 1994 chevy silverado truck?
prefer maroon in color, and less than 100.00.

A: Look in your phone book for your nearest Pick-A-Part or Pull-A-Part junk yard, call & see what they have. They you & your buddies just go down & get it off the truck.

Q: Where can I find a good used truck motor for my 1993 chevy pickup truck. 4.3 v6. in the Baltimore area.?

A: I own a shop, and what I would do is; call a local junkyard, and they can find you many of them. Try to get one with the least amount of miles on it. They will find you plenty of them. You can also run an add in the local Iwanna paper, and find one that way too. It would be better if you could find one that you can go hear run, or you are buying a pig in a poke. Most junkyards will give you a 60-90 day warranty on used engines.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: Looking to get a used truck, Dodge Ford Chevy or Toyota?
I’m getting rid of my Honda CRV and getting a truck but don’t know what to get. I don’t care about what people say about the truck, I want to know reliability, and what is actually the good buy. I like the Ford Dodge and Toyota but not sure about chevy. My dad has a toyota and has never had a problem with it, so the Tundra shouldn’t be different. My two friends have dodges and they really haven’t shown me anything in being reliable, but they can rip it up off road if you have the money to fix them. Ford F150 is just a good lookin truck and haven’t really heard anything about it. I’m looking for a truck that I can change in and out of 4×4 to 4×2 to save on gas but have it when I need it.

A: You should be VERY wary of the Tundra. Toyota has just recalled 110,000 Tundras resulting from frame corrosion problems, and the fact of the matter is that Toyota’s reputation is far better than the quality of its current vehicles in terms of engineering quality, reliability, and safety.

The Dodge RAM trucks are very well received. In fact, they’re seen as Chrysler’s one bright spot. However, Chrysler’s future is not in its own hands and owning the RAM truck will mean being subject to whatever FIAT has in mind, up to and including winding-down Chrysler altogether and simply replacing its vehicles with its own. There’s simply too much uncertainty in the marketplace for me to pledge my support behind something I’d have to live with for many years to come, and that’s separate and distinct from the fact that the only reason Chrysler exists is because it was bailed-out by the government, and rewarding that kind of failure is simply something I refuse to do (and so should you if you believe in being entitled to reap the rewards if you succeed).

The same goes for any GM vehicle (Chevy or GMC). GM pickups are generally considered to be “also rans”, passable vehicles, but usually ones people choose for reasons other than simply being the better vehicle.

The answer is ultimately very simple. The Ford F-150 is the pickup truck standard bearer. It’s the best made, most reliable, and most durable vehicle of its kind. Also, because it’s so plentiful, you’ll never have to worry about never having an endless supply of parts and first-rate accessories. When companies develop new and innovative products, they do so for the F-150 first. And best of all, when it comes time for a new one, there’s always a willing buyer for a well cared for F-150. It’s the simply the truck people turn to first.

And for the same reasons why buying Chrysler and GM presents so many problems in principle, driving a Ford is a decision you never have to justify. You’re not only supporting the American economy, you’re supporting the builder of the best vehicles at a time when it needs it most, when it is being made to compete with government-funded competitors, yet is posting profits and winning the best review for its products ever.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Q: Where can i get a $1000.00 dollar loan for a down payment for a used truck with 550 credit line.?
Ok so im looking to get a loan for $1000.00 so i can go put it down to get a used Chevy S10 that is $3000.00.
Q: chevy truck?
what kinda wheels would look good on a 3in lifted 74 chevy truck

A: some super swamper truxus on some american racing bajas 15×10

Q: Chevy truck!?
There is this Chevrolet truck, and I don’t know what its called. Its round on top, its a truck i know cause it has a bed. when you tell me what you think it is, get a picture so i can give you a best answer. also it looks like a volts wagon top.

A: Yeah, its the SSR, its like a pick up-wannabe-sports car. its comes with a V8 and has 300 hp. very nice truck. it was made from 2003 to 2006.

Q: i have a 95 chevy truck that will start but it wont stay running?
i have a 95 chevy truck with a 5.7 liter engine .i can start it but it will run for a minute .i replaced spark plugs ,cap and rotor ,wires ,oxygen censor, coolant temp censor.it just wont stay running.can somebody please help.

A: it could be dirty injectors. put a lil inject cleaner maybe to unclog them

Q: Where can I find the different Chevy bowties for the front of the truck?
Looking for different bowties that go in the grill of a 2008 Chevy Silverado. I see diiferent Chevy truck with an american flag bowtie and I was just wondering if they had any more variations of them.

A: http://www.sporttruckdirect.com/Street_Scene.html

http://www.autobarn.net/chevystore.html

Q: How hard is it to convert a 1954 Chevy truck from a manual to an automatic?
I’m thinking about getting a 1954 Chevy truck that’s currently a manual and i’d like to convert it to an automatic can anyone give advise on the cost to do such a thing?

A: It’s a lot less costly then trying to change from an auto to a manual.
Depending on whether you already have the tranny or not, it’s cost will have to be considered. If the truck is a SBC, them there are several transmissions that will interchange. The t350, t400, 200metric which has overdrive, and a 2 spd power-glide.
The clutch pedal assembly will need to be removed and all the linkage.
The transmission, clutch, pressure plate, shifter, pilot bearing, and flywheel will also need to be removed.
You will need the trans., torque converter, flywheel, different front drive-shaft yoke, and possibly the starter and cross-member will need to be replaced.
It is easier to add a floor shifter for your auto then to try and change out the steering column and run new linkage.
Price wise, your looking at around 500 for labor and at least 1000 for parts. Depending on where you are located the labor could double and depending on whether you want brand new parts or used parts, the price could reach 1500.
This is a time consuming job, but not an impossible one.
Hope this helps. Christopher

Q: Is a 1953 chevy truck a good car for a 16 year old?
I am getting a ‘53 chevy truck and I would like to know if these are good trucks.

A: this truck is almost as old as i am and i think it would be a great first vehicle. lots of Detroit iron to protect you without the need of airbags. if you drive it normally this truck could last another 50 years. one of the best built trucks ever and its a classic. fix it up and your ready for the car shows

Q: How much does it cost for a 1962 Chevy Truck?
Hey ya’ll this is Roger Vent from South Carolina. I gots me a proglem. My brother who I ain’t seen for many moons just showed up from the state of Georgia and he says that he only owes me 200 dollars for the chevy truck I got for him back in the day. I know he owes me more than that. What price do ya’ll think my brother dodger should pay me for this good ol chevy I got for Him. I sure ain’t taking him to calabash anytime soon I’ll tell ya that much buddy.

A: you need to go to kellybluebook.com or kbb.com and enter in the information on the truck, the quality, the miles, ect….it depends on the condition

Q: What kind of 4 spd transmission will fit in my 1950 chevy pick up truck?
I have a 1950 chevy truck with the original 6 cyl inline engine and 3 spd transmission(it gives you only 55mph top speed) which I want to replace with a 4 spd on the floor(in order to get better speed 75-80mph). What kind of transmission will fit in my truck?

A: richmond gear makes a 4 speed tranny that would go right in for around 1500

Q: How do you replace the passenger window glass on a 1998 Chevy truck?
How do you replace the passenger window glass on a 1998 Chevy truck?

A: Replacing windows is the ultimate pain. You’d better put aside half a day. The parts should come with some instructions. Take your time, because if you get it all back together and it doesn’t work, then you’ve got to start over. I know because I replaced the window in my Dodge van. I’ll never do it again. I’d rather pay someone to do it.

Q: How much sand or glass bead is needed to blast a 1955 Chevy Truck?
My husband is in the process of restoring a 1955 Chevy Truck and we are renting a sand blaster to blast it ourselves. Its a sort of father son project which is why he isnt paying a shop to do it. How much sand or glass beading would be needed to do this? The place we are going to buy it from sells it in 100 lb bags. thank you for your help.

A: one bag and recycle it.

anyway I don’t like the Idea….

I know all the stages of Customizing vehicles , and that one is the one I will not recomment to do in the back yard.
respiratory,skin problems ,
and the worse is :
You pass a part of Your body in front of the nozzle, and that part of the body will be gonne for ever.

Q: What automatic transmission would a 70’s Chevy automatic truck have?
I know this is a vague question, but thats all the info I have right now. Its a 70’s model Chevy truck automatic with a 350 in it.
Thank you.

I know this is just as vague but would it be long shaft or short shaft? I’m looking to do a engine/tranny swap from a truck I know of to my 91 Camaro.

A: If I had to guess I would say the 350T trans. That’s what GM used in most of their V8s during that period.

Q: What is the best way to install a windshield in a 1969 chevy truck?
i am having trouble putting the front windshield in my 69 chevy truck any tips on how to put it in?

A: this windshield uses a rubber seal. that rubber must be warm prior to the install and put around the windshield. when this is done, take a small nylon rope that has been sprayed with a lube(pb blaster, wd-40,etc) wrap it in the outer groove of the rubber seal. then lay the windshield over the opening of the truck, with the two ends of the rope at the center/ bottom of the glass. while someone is applying light pressure on the glass, slowing pulling both ends of the rope of the rubber seal over the lip of the body. this must be done slowly while massaging the windshield into place. after the rope has been pulled setting the rubber over the lip. continue the downward pressure until it has been fully set up. when you are all done. ally a trail of vasoline on the outside of the rubber, wiping the excess off afterwards. not that hard, takes patience, pressure, and two people.

Q: How to install widow channel in a 38 chevy pickup truck?
Im am restoring a 38 chevy truck and im at the point where i need to install new window channel in the doors.

A: The best way is to take the interior trim panel off, rool the window down and snake it in from the top. Use silicon spray on both sides of the weatherstrip so it slides in easy.
I’ve already skiped pulling the interior panel and got lucky just sliding the weatherstrip down the edge of the window. If it gets stuck try rolling the window up a bit and push the weatherstrip down as you lower the window.

Q: How hard is it to clean injectors on 1994 Chevy Truck?
I have 1994 chevy pickup truck with early fuel injection. While looking for a vacuum leak I noticed one of the injectors dripping fuel. How hard is it to take that injector ssytem off and clean the injectors? What type of cleaner should I use? Or can I dump bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank first?

A: this injector is called a multech. by adding a cleaner to this system all you are cleaning is the screen. gm designed these to be throw away injectors. they are very cheap new. just put a new one in.

Q: How to fill a radiator on 99 Chevy Truck?
I bought a 99 Chevy Truck last year and I need to flush the radiator.
Im used to working on older cars and this truck doesn’t have the cap on top of the radiator like what I am used to.
Do I need to take a hose off an fill from there or do I have to go through the resoviour?

A: Fill through the resevoir.

Q: Chevy Silverado 2500 for sale and i want to buy?
Im looking at this chevy 2500 6.0 litre truck, it has 140,000 k miles on it. Its being sold for 7995 im stuck. Is this a good deal? It has leather int, with quad cab, 4×4. its a 2002 chevy 2500 6.0 litre truck, kelly blue book puts it at 12,000 in perfect condition, which its not, and yes i did put the milage on kbb.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Q: 1977 Chevy C20 Silverado Pickup 4×4 for $2500?
I’ve seen a 1977 Chevy C20 Silverado 4×4 on sale for $2500 and I’m wondering if it’s a good deal or not, it has a rebuilt 350 V8, 350TH, 4″ lift, 33″ tires, lots of new parts and it runs/drives great, body/interior are in good shape and the truck has a little bit of rust.

A: This is a hard question to answer. It really depends on the market where you live and also how much attention to detail there was during the time of installing the new parts. If it really is in good running condition and cosmetically in decent shape, it is werth every pennie. In some places that truck would be more like $6K, but then again in some place like in Las Vegas were I live most people only want to buy newer stuff. which is a bonus for people interested in the old stuff. It helps keep the price down. One thing is for sure everthing on that truck is easy to find and cheep. to rebuild the motor is around $1200, tranny $500, and tranfer case is also around $500. All the suspension is cheep because it went from 1973 through 1987 on almost every fullsize truck and suv that GM made. Infact the suvs were the same suspention through 91.

Q: wheel fitment for chevy / dodge?
i found some rims for sale that were taken off of a 2004 Dodge ram 2500
i was wondering if these will fit me 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 HD ( 8 lug )

let me know
thanks
cole

A: it should. both patterns are 8 on 165mm. the hub centre might be different

Q: How Can I Improve Chevy Silverado 2500 W/Vortec 6000 Fuel Mileage?
We own several Chevy Silverado 2500 with Vortec 6000 gasoline engines. Model years range from 2002 to 2005. We used to get 15 to 17 MPG. Now we get 10 MPG. Any tips on how to improve fuel mileage and get it back into the mid-teens?
While it might be nice to extend the fuel mileage beyond the original, I am simply trying to get it back to where it was when the vehicles were new. We routinely use fuel injector cleaner. Sometimes this improves the mileage but the results usually only last for a few weeks. The results may be deceiving because we often use the cleaner right before a long trip.

These vehicles are usually driven an average of 30 miles per day. Normally these are highway miles with some city driving. Typically 2/3 highway, 1/3 city.
I believe that the intake filter has been changed but I will check it/them. Never thought of the exhaust issue. Sometimes these trucks are driven off road (construction) and it is possible that one or more of the guys hit something.

One of the vehicles (2005 Silverado 2500HD 3/4 TON) has a ladder rack on it. That one never gets good mileage. Usually 10 to 12 MPG. I suspect that the wind resistance of the ladder rack causes the poor mileage.

A: one of the best ways that i found to improve gas millage is a cold air intake. when gas goes into the combustion chamber not all of it gets burned up if you force colder air in as well the plugs fire and burn more of the gas that’s already in the chamber witch in turn improves your gas millage not by a hole lot but it does help. other things to check would be your plugs and wires and tire pressure

Q: How do you remove a spindle nut fro a 1998 Chevy Silverado 2500?
What size socket do I use?

A: If its 4×4 is a big one. I dont remember what size it is but its one that comes in the standard sets you can buy. Sometimes you need the ones made for axle nuts with the thinner side wall to fit in the recess. Standard sockets that big tend to have fairly thick sidewalls and sometimes dont fit.

Q: Can a Chevy Silverado long bed 2500 HD diesel carry a 2001 Lance 1121 (11.5ft slide out)?
We are thinking about buying a used 2001 Lance 1121 to use with our Chevy Diesel 2500HD and while the seller says yes, we know that the current 1100 serves requires a full ton truck. Please help.

A: Depends on the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of your pickup truck. There should be a placard or sticker on the rear edge of the driver’s door or on the door post that states the maximum weight your truck can carry. If the total weight of the truck and cargo does not exceed that weight limit, then you’re good to go.

NOTE: GVWR includes the weight of fuel in the tank, passengers in the cab, and any extras you may put inside the camper, like water in holding tanks or food and camping supplies. Also, make sure the tires on the truck are properly fitted and inflated for the weight you plan to carry.

Q: 2500 to a 1500 engine?
Ok so I have a lifted 2003 chevy silverado 2500 and it uses to much gas but I was wonderin wut if I put a v8 1500 engine if dats possible and if it is would it still be the same and would it save slot more gas than havin a 2500 engine.

A: If the truck is lifted and has oversize tires and the rear end gear ratio has not been changed to compensate for the taller tires, you are over-stressing the motor to get rolling. Assuming all the above that can reduce your mileage. A V8 will not get very good mileage either way but using the wrong gear ratio for your size tires cannot help. When using taller tires the gear ratio should be changed accordingly. I agree that the motor is likely to be the same on the 1500 as the 2500.You need to check that out better before even considering a motor change.1500 and 2500 mainly denote suspension and carrying capacities and related component strengths.

Q: Getting my first car?
Alright guys, I have a few questions for ya’s. i am 18 years old, and about to get my first truck. Currently I have my permit, but within the next week I am going for my drivers..
Anyways, Im looking at the following (used) trucks.
Chevy Silverado 2500
Chevy S-10 ZR2
Ford Ranger
Now.. Im not exactly sure on how the whole process works, since I havent discussed it with my parents much.
What all do I have to do when buying? Insurance wise, etc..
Thanks!

A: what do you do when buying?

umm pay maybe?

lol

Well once you bought the thing. You shop for insurance now. Try getting free quotes and get buy the cheapest. Register your truck. Make sure you have plates, tags, etc.

Q: fuel filling problem and engine light (code po446) on a 2004 Chevrolet silverado 2500 HD?
2004 chevy 2500 hd, has a hard time filling the gas tank. the pump keeps shutting off, like it thinks the tank is full. The engine light was on also. it gave a code for a small evap leak, so I used a smoke tester to find the leak. Nothing. I had changed the fuel tank pressure sensor. I figured that if the sensor was bad it would make it hard to fill and would throw the evap code. The light staid off for 3 days, but the filling problem was still present. Now the light is back on with a po446 code for fuel tank vent performance. I hooked up the computer and watched the data stream, it showed at an idle the purge valve was open and the vent closed. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around. I think the purge valve is bad, but want some input before spending $200
*it has a new cap
It has a new. The filling problem has been happening for some time. We’ve tried many different pumps and stations.
I did say the p0446 was for the vent performance. I checked the hoses when I had the tank partially down to change the pressure sensor.

I also found the TSB for the truck. Thing is when I talked to the Chevy dealer in town they said they haven’t dealt with any problems with hard filling. Their only advise was to try a different pump. Thank you GM!

A: This is a common problem on this model and GM has a Technical Service Bulletin out to fix it.
The vent solenoid and valve can become clogged with dust and dirt and cause them to fail. This is why it’s hard to fill, when you’re putting fuel in there’s nowhere for the air to go.

The T.S.B. # is 02-06-04-037C

For your 2004 model you will need to contact your dealer and ask for update kit part #19152349
And you will also need about 3 feet of bulk 3/4″ hose and 2 hose clamps

The repair is simple, remove the old vent solenoid assy which is simply clipped to the rear of your fuel tank and replace it with the one from the kit. Then use the bulk hose and filter supplied in the kit and route it over the tank and to the evep canister and secure it with tie straps. Then go to whoever read your code and have it cleared.

Note: there are more detailed instructions in the kit.

Best of luck!

Q: Does a 1989 Chevy Suburban in “Factory New” condition ever have a classic potential.?
I have a 1989 Chevy Suburban 2500 Silverado with a 7.4 lit. 454 engine. It’s in great cond. now and it wouldn’t be that hard to unlock it’s full potential (if it has any.) I think that the Suburban I have is the single most unique model ever ’cause it was the first year they put a hard drive (computer) in the Suburbans and the last year they put the “rat” engines in them, meaning the 454 and the 350. Also it has the the best body design of the R/V series which Chevy used for over a decade. All these VERY relevant things are not combined in any other year. So there!

A: Yes in another 10 years V8 will be hard to come by and people would love the 454 and to show it off when everyone has a 4banger to save on fuel cost and riding in a small box with seems like no shocks.

Q: Why do people think Chevy S-10’s are gangsta? lmfao.?
So i just woke up n got baked, and lately i’ve been thinkin about getting a truck, was initally thinking about an f-150 harley edition, throwin some airbags on it, rims, sunfroof, paint, etc. but i thought you know, escalades are a lot…flashyer. and hell used they got for the same basic price…from like 15-20 grand (the ones i’m interested in…2002-2005 all within 100k-150k miles)

And everywhere I’ve ever been I’ve heard about s-10’s, i finallyt got bored enough to look at them and was like…wow. they look like hotwheels trucks, i have nothin against chevy, i have a silverado 2500, but its an 89′…haha. anyways.. S-10’s are fking garbage, they are tiny as hell, they look worse than the nissan / toyota trucks….ugh. lol

why woul u NOT pick a lowered f-150 with a nice shape over a fkin mini crap truck. Chevy, you’ve decieved me.

A: Lowering trucks is gay.

The end. A truck was not designed for some wigger to lower it and pimp it out. Sorry, go buy a ford probe.

Q: Gap insurance will not pay the claim?
Okay-my fiance totaled one of our vehicles. We had full coverage insurance as well as Gap insurance on the vehicle. The Gap insurance has denied our claim because they say our insurance company did not give us enough for the vehicle. The loan on the vehicle is $14,000. The insurance company gave us $10,500. The Gap insurance is stating the insurance company SHOULD’VE given us $16,200. We purchased this vehicle over 2 years ago for $18,000. I used the NADA book, which according to the GAP insurance, they use this book as well. NADA does not have a value anywhere for $16,200. The cash value listed in NADA is $10,675.00. I was under the impression that GAP insurance covered the difference from what the insurance gave us and what we still owed on the vehicle.
My question is-can the gap insurance deny our claim due to the fact the insurance company gave us what they deemed fair market value of the vehicle? The lienholder (credit union) had to okay this value as well.
The vehicle in question was a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 4 wheel drive with towing package, letter interior, brush guard, bedliner. The vehicle had over 200,000 miles on it.
Thanks for any help.

A: You are correct in your thoughts as to how Gap coverage is supposed to work. My advise is for you to speak to the Gap provider to have them explain how they arrived at the figure that they did.. Also speak to your primary insurance agent and ask him / her to speak to the Gap provider on your behalf. It seems that the gap provider is acting in “bad faith”.When you speak to the Gap provider tell them that you feel they are acting in “bad faith” If all else fails, put in a call to your State Insurance Commission.

Q: can i use a 2500chevy cab for a 1500 chassis?
I have a 97 chevy silverado that needs a cab replacement.. can I buy a cab from a 2500 chevy same
Year and replace my cab wih it?

A: Absolutely. Just make sure it is a direct swap. Normally they are just some simple things can make a big difference like does yours have A/C and if so, the new cab should be from a truck that had A/C also. Also are the transmissions the same, as in are they both automatics? A manual trans truck may have a different pedal mount configuration. Simple things like that.

Q: Which Truck to choose?
I am thinking about buying a used truck. I am looking for something that can handle off roading and hauling stuff. Here what I can choose from

2001 Ford F 250 don’t know how many miles
2002 Chevy Silverado Z71 89,725 miles
2004 Chevy C-2500 26,872 miles

A: Homerunn: I would go with the C-2500 because of the low millage expect to pay 15,000. All of the trucks should do the job.

Good Luck

Q: Would you trade? a 1500 4wd for a ext cab 2500 HD 2wd?
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado Z-71 4WD 1500 w/ 120,000 miles single cab long bed, and I am about to trade for a 1998 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD 2WD W/120,000 miles extended cab long bed. both are V8 GAS.

The Sierra is extended cab and is a 3/4 ton, mine is a 1/2 ton and single cab but has 4X4. I rarely use the 4×4 because I live in the south, but I need extended cab. and I pull a large trailer

The real question is can a 3/4 ton pull a lot more than a 1/2 ton or is it a minimal difference not worth sacrificing the 4×4 what is your opinion?

Thanks and have a good day.

A: well i looked up the specs on kkb.com (kelley blue book)

your 99 1/2 ton’s maximum towing capacity is 6,500 while the 98 3/4 ton’s maximum towing capacity is 10,000 (same for all gas V8s rather its a small block or big block), now looks like kbb.com doesn’t show towing capacity for each one, they just show the maximum towing weight of that model, so that # is probably the diesel, the 2500HD of that year came with 3 other gas options, a 454 (7.4), 350 (5.7) and 305 (5.0) so depending on which engine it is, basically diesel is best then with gas the bigger the better towing weight it can tow

so if you do a lot of towing the 2500HD would be the best bet but even though you don’t use 4×4 that much you should still try looking for a 4×4 because you’ll get the 2wd and then find yourself in a situation where you’d need the 4×4, you said you rarely use 4×4 so that means you have used it just barely, people say 4×4 is more moving parts so cost a little more money to maintain which is true but its always nice to have when you need it, so if you feel comfortable with a 2wd then go for it if its as good of shape or better than your 99 but if you really want a 4×4 then look around a little

- pedro obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about, yes a 3/4 can carry more weight in the bed but a 3/4 ton has always been able to tow more than a 1/2 ton, usually 3,000-4,000 more lbs no matter what make it is, also it doesn’t matter if its 2wd or 4×4, a front axle and transfer case has nothing to do with how much weight can be put in the bed because the same frame will be used and same rear suspension, specs might say the same GVWR for both a 2wd and 4×4 so it might show you could carry more weight but that not realistic, they just have no need to have seperate GVWR for a 2wd and 4×4 of the same truck, just have to be realistic about it that the carrying capacity depends on the frame and rear suspension and has nothing to do rather its 2wd or 4×4, its common sense lol, i’ll delete this part of the answer when someone shows me a stock 1/2 ton that can tow as much as a stock 3/4 ton both the same year and make lol

Q: A question for you chevy/gmc truck guys? (easy 10 points for knowledgeable Chevy guys)?
i know someone out there has a 1500 silverado/sierra.

how much can they pull/stop? (stock) about the 1996-1999 1500 models.

i was going to purchase a trailer similar to this to be used with the silverado but im not sure if i will need 2500 or the 1500 is fine.

here is the trailer (imagine full of misc trash)..

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/for/951639440.html

can a truck like this pull it decently and be dependable, i would prefer the 1500 over the 2500.

http://4wheeldrive.about.com/library/uc/ucgraphics/Fergie1997GMCSierraRRLarge.jpg

also if any stats on what the 1500/2500 can pull would be appreciated.

A: What I tell most of my customers is v6 5800 pounds small v-8 6800 pounds and large v-8 7800 pounds. Roughly now it can depend on the rear end and if it has a factory tow package as well. A small or large v-8 should be fine unless you expect it to exceed those weights.

Q: How do I know what model truck I have?
I lost the manual and I need to get a new sideview mirror. How do I know what model it is and if it’s a 1500, 2500, or 3500? How do I know if it’s a full size? =[ I don’t know about cars as you can tell. It’s an old 97 chevy silverado truck I use for the farm. Thanks in advance!
It looks exactly like this.

http://www.bnjautos.com/search//images/1/K10546-1.jpg

A: its what you call a full size ext cab short bed 1500(1/2 ton) chevy pickup with two wheel drive,a 2500 is also known as a 3/4 ton pickup and the 3500 is a 1 ton pickup, the different size trucks are determined by the size of the suspension,1500-also 1/2 ton and so forth.and the S series pickups are the smaller size.and the C series are the full size which you have here…

Q: Whats this truck worth?
Im looking at a 1997 3/4 ton 4wd Chevy Silverado. No defect that I can notice other than I think the front rotors need turned, and the serpentine belt doesnt have much life left. (several cracks, can replace myself) Other that that seems like nice tight truck. Rides better than my car does. Has 135,000 miles and well taken care of. Dealer wants $4500.00 for it. Full size bed with bedliner. Never used for plowing. Interior in good shape. no rust. Talking to Bank on Monday. Cannot find out value on Kelly blue book then only to back to 1999. this is a +2500 series. Its got the Vortec V8 in it. Its got plenty of power I discoverd as I was draggin my little S10 around with it today How do I find out what its worth? Thanks..

A: i own a repair shop, and even if you go to a site that tells the value of it ,,its not really going to help you on this one ,because they have it priced below what its worth i have some family that own a car lot and i know this truck would bring at least 7500 easy even with the mileage on it ,that’s not really a factor on this truck so id be wondering why i could get it for so little but if you have looked it over really good and it as a good title not a salvage title i think that is a good deal on it,but id have them do a car fax on it before i bought it, that’s a little too good to be true, good luck i hope this help,s.

A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.

Q: I have a question about running boards on a Chevy Silverado?
I have a 99 (new body) Chevy Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 4×4

I love my truck, and I’d like to put running boards on it
There are a million Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierras for sale on craigslist in Boise, and half of them have running boards

I’m going to make an offer to buy the running boards off of somebody’s truck, but before I do, I want to make sure that they are bolt on instead of weld on

How much work is it going to be to take these off and put them on?

Thanks

10 pts to best answer

A: I have an 06 extended cab with tubular assist steps. Looking to sell them as the lease is over next month. Anyway, most of these steps use the bolts for the frame. Remove them, hold step up to hole and reinstall, no drilling or welding needed.

Which would be the 2 wise picks?

Q: Where to start on upgrading a ‘93 Chevy 1500 4×4?
We just got a ‘93 Silverado 4×4 in a trade, and want to upgrade it some to get the most out of it. I’m asking on behalf of my brother, so i don’t know the truck terms he does, but he says he wants electronic lockers for it so he can engage them and make it unstoppable in the snow. We also have been thinking about some light upgrades to the engine. It currently has headers and a cold-air intake, but I don’t know if ‘93 is new enough to be computer-controlled enough to have any chips or programmers that will unlock power. We live in iowa so emissions don’t matter. Gas is cheap, and we have other vehicles for commuting, so MPG isn’t a big deal either.

What are some upgrades to the drivetrain or intake/ignition that would be affordable on this truck? I think we’re looking at spending maybe $1000 total. Reliability is a very important thing for this truck, since our last project truck lost all reliability and now is for sale. This needs to remain streetable, so we’d rather not mess with the cam and valvetrain like we did on the other truck, or change the fuel system so much it is tough to get it to run right.

A big question is what type of V8 does this have? It’s almost certainly a 350, but we are clueless to identifying block types. LS1, LT1, Gen1, they all come up on a summit racing parts search for this 1500, so i dunno. We know it’s the original engine.
High octane premium gas offers zero performance increase over normal gas in vehicles with standard compression and aspiration. I’m not familiar with truck drivelines, but i know internal combustion. The only reason for high octane fuel is to combat detonation, which doesn’t happen in a stock compression engine with 89 octane fuel, so it serves no purpose.

You might as well have said to add flame stickers.

A: If you want to start with some really basic stuff, start with a new air filter from K&N. While you are on the K&N site, take a look and see if they have any air intakes for the truck. Also head on over to the Cherry Bomb website and take a look at exhaust systems. A cat-back with glass-pack mufflers should do the trick. Premium plugs and fluids also do wonders for little cash. That should get you started.

Go on over to jcwhitney.com or get ahold of their catalog and just browse to your heart’s content. That’ll give you more ideas on how to spend money. Also, a 93 should have a computer.

Q: wheel fitment for chevy / dodge?
i found some rims for sale that were taken off of a 2004 Dodge ram 2500
i was wondering if these will fit me 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 HD ( 8 lug )

let me know
thanks
cole

A: it should. both patterns are 8 on 165mm. the hub centre might be different

Q: new truck cracked gasket?
i want to buy this new chevy silverado. its actually a 2004 its kinda fixed up and has wheels tires lift shocks sound system and blue book values it at 17,000 and he could probably actually get about 19,000 but he is selling it for 14,000. he says he has to pay off credit cards and the loan on it and has another car, gas is too much, etc…but he says to tell you the truth a year ago he had a head gasket crack which was replaced and will show me paperwork. so you think he is just trying to sale it cheap to sale it fast to get out of payments cause he cant afford them (hes a college student) or you think somethin is wrong. im thinking about asking him to go with me to the dealership to have an inspection , i would hate to buy it and have the engine blow or somethin he says the fix on the cracked head was 1500. so idk whats your opinion?

A: Stear clear of this truck. Think about it. Colledge kid, pimped out the truck, admits to a head gasket issue. I’ll bet he has been pounding the hell out of this truck and wants out because it is starting to act up on him. If he had a craked head gasket then it was likely because he overheated the truck and did the damage then.
Stay away!
